So I am really slow at painting and frankly, I have been in a lurch for a couple years as far as painting goes. I hope 2019 I will get started up again. So my goals for 2019 will be small.

Paint my Bolt Action Sikh army with tanks. -Perry Miniatures, Valentine II, Crusader III, Stag Hound, Matilda.

Build and paint Bolt Action winter soviets plus Tans- Winter Soviets box, Winter HQ, Heavy MG, Zis 3, KV 1/2, t34-76 x2 (1 fighting girlfriend, 1 bare steel) going for a desperate defense of stalingrad style force.

Good Luck Mr @bureaucrat  .  I was really slow (and still am honestly) but I found 2 things helped in 2018.

1st) Was Mr @lawnor ‘s spreadsheet, which gave me a focus

2nd) Was keeping a weekly hobby diary that I quickly wrote up for the week every Friday or Saturday morning. In it I wrote brief notes on what I did for the week and set myself something to do for the next week.  it worked for me but it may not be for everyone.

Good luck on your painting adventures and best wishes

    B.

Welcome aboard.  I found my speed picked up once I started keeping track of my progress and what was left to do.  Setting myself targets is a big help for motivation.   Not just annual targets.  Initially it was things like “I want this list fully painted” and then a second list.  Then it was if I paint these remaining guys this faction is finished for now.  I just finished some pirates I’ve been avoiding for a few years because then I’ve finished every model I bought in 2016 which is another arbitrary goal hit.  Todays mission is to get everything on my painting table finished before the new year just to inflate my 2018 painted total.  Pick small attainable targets and it helps with motivation and speed.  Just be sure you’re still enjoying yourself or whats the point.

I’ve been keeping a log of what paints I use for each colour which definitely speeds things up. It seems obvious now, but before I’d just go by memory and I’d waste too much time trying to recall what I’d done.

Looking at the Elf project, it’s going to push into  the 2019 list for sure. I’ve almost finished my current stage, but I feel like I’m getting project fatigue. I think I’ll finish the mini I’m working on now, then give this one a little break.

@rayzryr It may or may not help with the color selection but doing the log and also having a quick reference to your paint by looking at the bottoms could help.I have a couple reverse eyedropper bottle racks and I just look over the colors and snag what looks like it fits where I need it. Organizing it with a rough ROYGBIV palette scheme and branching off into the neutrals makes it simple for me. I add to my pledge to clean off my desk again as I do most of my painting right now by my airbrush station. I swear I did have it clean at one point this year.

If anybody is interested I got my racks from Impudent Mortal here in the US. You can get something similar from HobbyZone in the EU.

    @horati0nosebl0wer nice set up!

Paint racks are indeed on the wish list, it’s just that I’m in temporary accommodation at the moment, so I have a basic setup in a spare room. 6C5B9F1F-AEC9-49C0-B972-729BA1384841

That’s it, that’s all I’ve got to work with. Most of my hobby stuff is up in the garage up stairs. And a little bit in my bedroom.

But I like your paint storage idea, I’ll do something like that when I have my own space. Messy desk? Ah look don’t even worry about it! You can see how tidy my desk isn’t!

I’ll probably grab something from Miniature Scenery or Knights of Dice later: they’re a little more local ?

Ive been told that I can take the desk when I move out too, so that’s a bonus ?

I will keep it simple my pledge is to paint more than I did the previous year. So this year ended at just over 200 models.

    86FE7C02-DA52-49D8-BD84-5BA1F64FAAC1

I still have plenty of unpainted models before I even start to think about what I want to pick up in the future.

good luck everyone and happy new year.

First of happy new year from the Netherlands to everybody, hope everybody had / is having a fun time. Here’s to a good, hobby filled 2019.

So been racking my brain over what to pledge for 2019, especially after spending some time this week indexing all the potential projects I still have around in the hobby room. To say the list is extensive is a vast understatement, we’re talking like a 7+ A4 page pile’s worth of potential projects.

    B1

So rather than specifically picking stuff out now for the entire year I’m going with a slightly different approach. I aim to complete a minimum of 12 projects in 2019, with the idea being that each month one project gets painted while another gets gets prepped for the following month.

For January we’ll start with finishing an outstanding 2018 project, a Badab War Secessionist Killteam. Kept getting distracted by real life on these for a couple of months now, while the original conversion on the leader in fact started in 2010 right after Imperial Armour X came out. About time he got painted right. 😉 Oh and yes, those are true scale Space Marines converted long before anybody had even dreamed about Primaris.

    B2

On the prep list I’ve been cleaning up and making bases for the minis in the Highlander boardgame. These should be a lot of fun, do really love making custom, thematic bases. The ‘modern’ sculpts will all get the same theme, but going all out on the ‘old’ characters.

Two things I most definitely hope to work on this coming year are some highly themed stuff for Kill Team, as well as some more models from the superhero gem of a game Pulp City. Not in the least as the latter in particular only requires a handful of models, while pretty much every character / faction out there is extremely characterful. Not to mention that with 3-10 models for a team you can really go all out creating some awesome bases and I’ve had a blast painting them in the past. The Green Emperor and Mysterious Man may very well be getting some reinforcements this year.
    6
As for Kill Team, plenty of ideas and options there. Like over a dozen different bags / boxes’ worth of bits ready to go when inspiration strikes. Thinking this pile of potential projects will be great for when I need a distraction or wacky in between challenge. Lots of varied options there for sure, like some of these for example. 😉

    So 2019’s goal:
    – Completed 12 projects :  0 / 12.
    – Prep next month’s project:  0 / 11.

Januari:  . Paint Badad Secessionist Kill Team / Prep Highlander boardgame miniatures.

    Februari:  .  / .

    March:  .  / .

    April:  .  / .

    May:  .  / .

    June:  .  / .

    Juli:  .  / .

    August:  .  / .

    September:  .  / .

    October:  .  / .

    November:  .  / .

    December:  .  / .

For many of you, especially with a year’s worth of hobby to get through and remember, there are various project management apps out there that should be able to help you keep track as you go. Yes I know a spreadsheet can also handle this.

In 2019 I will first be finishing the paintjobs and basing on my Death Guard from the Dark Imperium Box.

I will also be finishing the modifications, paintjobs and basing on the remaining minis from my old Space Crusade game.

And I also want to get several of my burrows and badgers minis painted. As those are very individual and not squad based as most of the things I did last year, it will be interesting to see whether that makes my painting slower or speeds it up.

I have no idea how many models I will be able to finish in a year, but this plan should leave plenty of headroom for others that will probably show up unexpectedly.

I’ve made what I think  is an obtainable gaming New Year’s resolution of painting 5 stands of 6mm camel cataphracts for my Parthians. Anything after that will be a bonus

My aim for this year will be to paint up all the Mythic Battle: Pantheon models. I’ll be detailing everything in a project here: https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1318411/.

    My hobby goals for 2019:
    1. Build & paint an Adeptus Mechanicus Forge World Metalica force.
    2. Finish building and painting my Dark Angels 5th Battle Company (13th Black Crusade era).

I will be painting other miniatures here and there and finish the projects I’m currently working on. My Sentry Bot, Sherbet the Pink Tank and the Mk. II Space Marine are currently waiting on supplies and will be resumed when I can get those.

Okay, I gave last year’s hobby pledge so much thought I never got around to it. Looking back I know I accomplished quite a bit but am hard pressed to list it all. So this year I’ve entered my plans into the spreadsheet and am ready to track my progress.

First goals are related to MicroArt’s Wolsung skirmish game. This will come as no surprise to any of you who have seen my Project Blog at https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1223909/. I’ve just started the Scylla gang, have three mercenaries to paint, the Alven Yard, and a number of terrain pieces to assemble and paint as well.

I still have the gorgeous pieces from Kev White’s Kickstart that I am itching to get to as well as two more campaigns arriving in the next month or so, Reaper Bones 4 and Burrows and Badgers (I blame @brennon and his enthusiasm for this one).

I am always working on and adding to my Kings of War forces and have a couple units for each army I want to get done and every year I hope to get some sci/fi terrain made and never seem to prioritize it.

Finally, Mantic’s Terrain Crate pieces will be getting some love again as I had really been making headway on that pile before I got distracted. Plus I just ordered some Market Stalls.
