As the title suggests, I may be falling into the world of Marvel Crisis Protocol but I really don’t know where to begin. The obvious starting point would be Earth’s Mighest Core Set I would guess?
If I went for just a couple of the Affiliation Packs (so X-Men and Brotherhood for example) what would I need to buy separately in order to get playing the game? Do they do a components pack etc? Are all the cards you’d need in the box?
Any help would be appreciated!

December 17, 2024 at 3:36 pm #1907568the cards for the minis are all in the boxes with them but you’ll need the dice pack and the separate movement and range pack. You’ll also need the Crisis Card pack that has the objectives/scenarios for gameplay. Watch out if buying packs on some sites as the earlier version was replaced last year so make sure it says 2023. Older minis may also have older cards but they should be mainly replaced by now I would think.
December 17, 2024 at 3:50 pm #1907569Ah that was one of the things I was wondering. If I picked up an older miniature kit (so the black ones) it would have the older cards in them. I wonder if they just replaced them online maybe (which would be a ball ache but ah well).
Will have to weigh up the core box + some extra minis Vs getting the Affiliation Packs and the separate accessories. Time to do some hunting…
December 17, 2024 at 4:21 pm #1907571I think they have a set of cards as an accessory for the old minis, to bring them in line for the new game.
The old boxed set is still available for a steal on like Amazon, plus the cards, and it’s less than the new game. The new box comes with cool terrain stuff though.
I look at it sometimes, obviously, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet 😁
December 17, 2024 at 4:26 pm #1907573Ah I see – will have to see if I can scout that card set out as well. I did see a lot of copies of the old core set so I have also weighed that up against the new one. The new one does seem to come with a few bonus bits and the extra stuff for the likes of Ultron and Captain Marvel. Decisions, decisions hah
December 17, 2024 at 4:35 pm #1907575I’m quite enamoured by the game mechanics and I do really like Marvel so it’s got that draw as a bit of an added info. I also think the fact that it only requires a handful of minis per side to play and you can mix and match so much also helps…
December 17, 2024 at 5:00 pm #1907576@brennon it’s a major ongoing temptation for me 🤣
Edit: the card pack is called “Marvel Crisis Protocol 2023 Crisis Pack”
Especially when I see @chaosgorka painting his all the time. So so good!

December 19, 2024 at 11:27 am #1907845Yeah chaosgorka does some amazing stuff that has got me tempted many times. I THINK I’m going to treat myself to the Earth’s Mightiest Core Set in the new year and see where I go from there.
May have wishlisted a lot of different sets…
January 2, 2025 at 3:27 pm #1910034I got painting over the Christmas week and finished all of the heroes and all of the villains from the Core Set.
Really enjoyed working on the miniatures and they were something a bit different from what I normally work on. I think I’ve done a pretty good job on the miniatures but there’s room for improvement of course. As with all things, they look better in person than under the light of the camera which doesn’t hide any sins!
Looking to get my hands on some more miniatures soon. Want to try and get the Affiliation Pack for Spider-Man and the Spider-Foes and then the X-Men and the Brotherhood.
January 2, 2025 at 4:03 pm #1910058The must be the new starter set as some of the minis I don’t recognise.
Nice paint jobs. Better than what I managed when I had a go a while back.
I would like to get more minis, but can’t justify it as I’ve not had chance to play it and the expansion boxes are ridiculously expensive for so few minis.
January 2, 2025 at 4:08 pm #1910059Thanks! Yeah, it’s the Earth’s Mightiest Core Set rather than the original one.
I’ve been finding some cheaper sets available if I do some hunting in independent stores online. My biggest issue is that the sets I want are always out of stock!
January 2, 2025 at 5:19 pm #1910060Get behind me, Satan! Those look fantastic, nicely done. I’m still resisting.
January 2, 2025 at 10:45 pm #1910110I must admit that when I see some of the Starwars-variant boxes part of me goes ‘me wants’ … but then I look at the price and I’m like “nope”.
(I wonder if Starwars will get a revised core set as well?)
January 3, 2025 at 9:07 am #1910151Cheers @grantinvanman – I tried to resist but then I watched some Marvel movies and played Rivals and I fell down the hole!
I was initially turned off by the price as well @limburger but you can find some good deals online. There’s the whole “it’s a small model count game so you get “more for your money”” take of course but I’m a bit up in the air on that. The Earth’s Mightiest Core Set is a good deal though imo.
