GW in danger of sliding back into the customer-hostile bad old days.
April 16, 2021 at 3:07 pm #1636556Bad news indeed. #
I read somewhere in the books that came with the game that this was the ‘first adventure into the Cursed City’, but clearly that was written before they decided nail the lid down on the coffin of this game.
According to that video it’s the export tax that impacts GW, so presumably they could sell it in the UK.
And the other alternative is start making product here instead of China. Might cost them a bit more though.
Another way to expand Cursed City, and any other box game, would be to do ‘cardboard only expansions’ that use models from the existing range of miniatures.
Hopefully GW will make a statement in the near future… rather than delete posts and go into denial…
April 16, 2021 at 4:59 pm #1636606I don’t understand why they’ve done this and haven’t released any statement about a reprint. I was really excited about this game, but missed getting it within the first 30 minutes on GW website that Saturday morning. I was really annoyed, but then resolved that it wasn’t meant to be and that my money was better spent elsewhere. I’ve since put that money into the Mythic Battles Kickstarter – lower entry price, more miniatures and a lot of gameplay.
funnily enough, I popped into my local GW yesterday (retail stores open) and bought a can of spray. There were 2 boxes of Cursed City in the store – and I didn’t buy either of them. I’m pretty much done with GW boxed games now – I think I’ll only be buying the odd mini I like and the paints that I like.
there’s so many great games out there, and I really don’t like being made to feel bad for not being online in those first few minutes at 10am on a Saturday.
April 16, 2021 at 5:05 pm #1636607Why should the export tax impact the Cursed City more than any other GW product ? Its all just boxes with sprues.
So funny. GW even removed Cursed City from their website Scary eh ?
Now I think its all a marketing ploy. Cultivate the FOMO tension to a max. And then put the game back to availibility and reap your fans fear of missing out.
They are using this tactic all the time and it works, else they wouldnt take it that far.
April 16, 2021 at 5:22 pm #1636614FOMO maximises earnings on (potentially) mediocre products. Why invest in a good product r&d, when you can simply churn out “something” and fire up the hypetrain… disciples of G’Wullu will gobble up everything. Proof and point: Cursed City.
April 16, 2021 at 5:34 pm #1636626On a german forum someone said the the a GW press contact told him the game will be back in stock they just have delivery difficulties because of Brexit and the pandemic.
And apparently there are expansions mentioned in the rulebook, so we have to wait and see.April 16, 2021 at 5:51 pm #1636636I don’t buy due to FOMO… I buy because I want something. In the case of Cursed City I liked the minis which I plan on using in the Soulbound RPG that I’m running (when we can sit at a table of course) and the fact that there’s an adequate boardgame in the box is a bonus.
The plot to the Cursed City game is a potential source of ideas and villains for the Soulbound campaign too.
April 16, 2021 at 7:34 pm #1636700The reviews for Cursed City have been mediocre-to-poor thus far. Which seems all the worse when you think of how the previous GW boxed WQ product (Blackstone Fortress) was so universally well-received.
April 16, 2021 at 7:50 pm #1636701I appear to have had a post deleted or lost because I posted this yesterday. However here goes again.

April 16, 2021 at 10:47 pm #1636767Dafuq is going on with the BoW site at the moment? It’s taking ages to post, It’s only posted half the post but posted it twice
April 17, 2021 at 6:09 am #1636807April 17, 2021 at 8:56 am #1636808Well they’ve deleted the game from their website completely (never seen them do that before), thus without the usual hint of “No longer available online” (FOMO) or “Temporarily out of stock online” (Stock item) who knows….
But I do think this seems to have been a last minute decision, as many retailers who cut off pre-orders for this weeks release had re-opened pre-orders for “wave 2” shipping of the boxed game (so they were under the impression it was going to be a line item as well). Alas yet again this leaves local retailers hit with merchant repayment charges for card payments as GW stiff them yet again and STILL can’t let their vendors know how much stock they can have (ofc GW know how much they themselves are getting so don’t get hit with having to make repayments or dealing with frustrated customers).
“GW in danger of sliding back into the customer-hostile bad old days.”
They’ve been there a while if you are a customer of any of the specialist games range (Necromunda, Bloodbowl, Adeptus Titanicus etc). It’s been constant FOMO marketing and messed up/rewritten rules for years now (just to sell you the latest edition/codex). If you want any products for these games you HAVE to be at GW’s beck and call and be at your keyboard at 10am on Saturdays (as they usually sell out within 10-20 minutes).
And the scalpers have been busy (as usual), but strangely at the moment the game seems to be selling on there for around twice the RRP (which is lower than usual). HOWEVER with the latest news that Cursed City has moved from being a line item to “limited/OOP” I expect the prices to sky rocket over the next few days (which should have the scalpers cackling with glee 🙁 )
April 17, 2021 at 9:58 am #1636812Given that GW can almost guarantee to sell out of these products why do they feel the need to send them out for free to ‘influencers’? Just put up an unboxing vid on the Community site. GW really is a stange company.
