At the weekend I went to ChillCon Derby for the second year. For those who do not know, it is a small (but growing) con that takes place in a school. They took up 3 decent sized halls, some corridors and foyers this year, and didn’t quite have enough space. I think they had more booked but the venue made changes last minute. They also do an event in Sheffield every year too, but I’ve never made it there. Last year we attended, did a little shopping and spent the day in the board games library occasionally revisiting the Bring and Buy to see what has been added and what prices had dropped. We had a good day out, even with a toddler in tow. We planned on doing the same again this year, but sadly they did not have a board game library, hopefully just due to space limitations. If you want to do some shopping from the less mainstream companies, or try some participation or demo games its a good day out. With a toddler “helping” out, its not really for us, although because of him we did get to meet James M Hewitt this year.
If you’re nearby and curious I’d definitely say you should stop by one of their events, although they might not be worth travelling for. I hope they grow and become more.
Anyway, on to the reason I’m posting this. If you buy tickets in advance they cost £4 and come with a free show exclusive mini. You can however upgraded to a £30 ticket that gets you a goody bag, entry, and the show mini. I got it last year and it was value for money. This year it got a little silly so I wanted to show it off to give them credit, to give Mantic credit, and to get help identifying everything.
First up, Here is this years goody bag, stuffed full of toys, with 30mm Bradigus Thule, Blackclad Wayfarer for scale.
And here is everything from in the bag, all laid out:
So what is all of that?
- Mars Attacks World War Book
- Dreadball Xtreme Player Manual
- Dungeon Saga The Adventurers Companion hardback book
- Fox Box Comss Gobbo mini
- Belt Fed Gamings Cleopatra, Egyptian Queen mini
- Show Exclusive 4-Dial Battletracker widget by Lasercut Architect
- Mantic branded tape measure
- Ainstey Castings Ape Mounted Command mini (Planet of the Apes solo horse rider)
- Bad Squiddo Games Thorrun, Shieldmaiden Champion mini
- Dreadball Ultimate plastic token set
- Chillcon Coaster and leaflets
- Chillcon show mini: Hecate, the Goddess of Magic & Witchcraft
- A plane. All packaging is in Russian. I’ll need help working out what the plane is and what its from. EDIT: Confirmed 1:100 Di Agostini Yak 3. Is that around 15mm, so suitable for Flames of War etc?
- Arcworlde Halfling Sheriff metal mini
- Some actual red bubble wrap. I assume this was around something, but I prefer to believe it is off-brand Tension Sheet
- A ProArte Scholar size 0 Paint Brush
- A keyring made from a purple D20
- Studio Miniatures Donald mini (Totally not Donald Sutherland from Kelly’s Heroes)
- Colour Party paints put of unlabelled Brown paint. Not sure if this is a wash, a paint, a weathering thing. Update. Found their website, and this is Acrylic paint MA41 Staffwood, 30ml
- Warlords of Erehwon mini: Arise, Oh Restless Dead
- 1x Booster Cards for Lightseekers and for AoS Champions
- Lovely blue drawstring bag
Here are some pics of the plane and of its packaging. perhaps someone can translate it or recognise the plane or the product line and give me more information. Currently thought to be a Yak 3, but is it from a specific game or range?
For £26 all of that seems like great value for money, right? That bag is stuffed. Adding anything else would be silly, right?
Enter Mantic who asked ChillCon to hold its beer.
They threw in an entire copy of Dreadball Xtreme and what I assume is one of the Mystery Boxes.
Apparently, by the time I arrived the check-in staff were already sick of hearing the phrase, “Oh. I need to go back to my car already”. Seems Mantic took ChillCon by surprise as they really expected everything to fit in the blue bags. I wonder if Mantic needed to free up space in a warehouse? Anyway, here is the box all laid out on my table. I’ll do a full inventory soon, and I really need help working out what this stuff is, and how to eBay the bits for games I don’t play (ie does anyone need 5 extra herds of flaming cows, or should I sell them individually?
I think there was also a VIP Swag Bag for £100. Can you imagine what was in that? You’d have to hire a van to drive it home.

I don’t think they sold Chilly but I could be wrong. I think they are looking for a new venue for next year so they might get new food options there that perhaps include Chilly. I cannot speak for ChillCon Sheffield. They hay be hogging all the chilly.
September 23, 2019 at 12:47 pm #1439077Quite a bit of stuff, seems pretty good value for £26 🙂
September 23, 2019 at 1:20 pm #1439080September 23, 2019 at 2:13 pm #1439087I am currently locked out of editing that post so lets see if it’ll let me post here instead. So here’s the breakdown. Please help me ID all this stuff.:
Pic M01: 2x Battlezones sprues
M02: 1x Battlezone Spure and 48 Dreadball bases. I assume the battlezones stuff was grabbed at random and isn’t from a kit for a specific build?
M03: Dreadball dice cup and 14 d6 (From Xtreme?)
M04: 3x Horse and carts (From Market Set), and 2x assorted crates and barrels (From Market Set or Dungeon Debris set? from terrain crate, I assume?
M05: 2x stat cards (Dungeon Quest?) and Ronaldo the Bard Mantic Points exclusive mini?
M06: 2x 5 packs of Matsudo Tectonics Matsudan Team
M07: 2x 6ish packs of Plastic Neo-Bot Players – the Draconis All-Stars
M08: 2 bags of either 28mm chest high walls, from Battlefield Walls terrain set
M09: Kings of War Counter set from 2015 organised play pack. Discontinued?
M10: Blurry messy pic of what i think was all the minis from Dreadball Xtreme. There was definitely a bag containing convicts and asterian ladies.

September 23, 2019 at 2:46 pm #1439093M11: 2 sets of 9 Fire/red Loka pieces.
M12: Unknown Dreadball MVPs/Captains and a refbot
Top left to bottom right: Unknown, Neo-Bot captain?, Yindij Captain?, Unknown, Unknown, Matsudo Captain, Unknown, Matsudo Captain, Refbot
M13: 2x 8 piece blue Loka sets.
M14: Mars Attacks Stealth Martians pack
M15: Jarvis, Ophidian Necromancer, for KoW, also found in a Dungeon Saga expansion
M16: Hellboy Nazi Troopers
M17: Kings of War damage tracker widget
M18: Wow, my photos came out bad. These are assorted Plague minis. I can ID these myself as I have some painted up.

September 23, 2019 at 3:03 pm #1439110Last one, I promise!
M21: 5x Flaming Cow Herds from Mars Attacks
M22: Assorted Asterians from Deadzone
M23: Mars Attacks Civillians pack
M24: 2x Red Planet Martians /Mars Attacks Dreadball Teams. I think. They have no weapons that I can see.
M25: More Mars Attacks characters, L to R, Unknown, KS Exclusive General Tor, KS Exclusive Esteban, KS Exclusive Don Manning
M26: The same 3 red characters 6 times over. The red plastic makes me think Mars Attacks, but I do not know. Are they prone models for the martian Dreadball team? Possible Dead Martians also here?
M27: Possible Undead Dog handler?, some kind of trident realms character(?), and Weiss for Dreadball
M28: Walking Dead Prone Figure booster
And that’s the last. Please help me identify this lot. As information comes in I’ll try going back and updating the labels on the pics. If I don’t know what it is then I probably don’t play the game its for so if you see something you want feel free to make me an offer. I’ll likely keep some of the cooler stuff to paint though.
EDIT: At a quick count, estimating low for bags containing unknown numbers of models, that’s over 200 minis, before counting terrain and other stuff. For £26 that’s damn good value, even if I don’t have a use for most of it. There’s definitley some fun painting projects in there.
September 23, 2019 at 3:04 pm #1439111Had a good day there as well. Our club ran a North Africa 1942 Bolt Action demo game, had fun chatting to a few folks. Spent a load of cash on vehicles for my Arab 1973 army thanks to Clive’s Diecasts.
September 23, 2019 at 3:15 pm #1439116@lawnor – Mantic released their fantasy orcs as sci-fi orcs with a few changed weapons – they would be for Deadzone and Warpath. The DIY art thing, going by my terrible memory are wound counters for KoW.
September 23, 2019 at 3:48 pm #1439130@damon big desert table near the Mantic and River Horse stands? Lovely big cotton wool smoke plumes? Were you dressed in dress uniform? Did you see a toddler around 1-2pm lying on the floor with his head between your table legs pretending to be asleep and refusing to move? Sorry. That was us.
September 23, 2019 at 4:17 pm #1439140@lawnor, no mate, I think that was the Assaye 1803 game by The Boondock Sayntes club (great looking game), we were in front of the Warlord stand in the other hall. We didn’t have any toddler trouble…
My only dressing up at shows is a t-shirt with some sort of smart-arse joke or a Monty Python quote on it.
September 23, 2019 at 10:20 pm #1439296September 24, 2019 at 9:34 am #1439419Google translate agrees that the red font reads Yak 3. If I knew how to type with that alphabet I could have translated it all. Thank you both. I’m assuming this is a toy/display model and not intended as a game piece, but no reason it couldn’t be used as one if I match its scale to a suitable game.
Now I know what I’m looking for, I’ve found the product: https://www.flyingmule.com/products/DA-DARA20
