Argh! Just got done with a head swap of a GW Sorceress to use on the Herald of Slaanesh. Cutting off the horns to transfer was easy. The painful part was trying to get the emblem off the headwear. I lost half of it but I can sculpt the repair bit. My only issue is the neck when I get to painting it. Overall I’m glad for the, albeit expensive, high quality replacement. Hobby time has been accomplished while avoiding earning any more badges of honor.

OK, new bits for my printer ordered, should hopefully arrive in a week or so. And then the real horror show begins – my soldering is not exactly A-grade 😛

@rayzryr thanks for the comparison shots 🙂 That elves project of yours is really coming along nicely.

@rayzryr @woldenspoons @onlyonepinman I personally find minis (or at least some sort of map) does save a lot of time in combat situations when you are the DM as there is no misunderstanding about where people were in relation to one another, and it amuses me that people can’t simultaneously be close enough to the rogue to make sure he doesn’t plan something out of the newly discovered treasure chest and be far enough away that they are out of range of any potential traps – I’m mean like that 🙂 Plus it means I get to play with lots of shiny minis. However I find that theatre of mind is great/preferable for all the out of combat stuff and it’s that part that really make the games come alive I feel.

@horati0nosebl0wer yeah I see what you mean re AoS. the appeal of Mordheim though wasn’t just the rule mechanics, it was also the setting, narrative, and the ability to level up and grow your warband. yep caught that TW video too (no new weekenders so i’ve been watching a bunch of other gaming content while doing hobby). An AoS version of KT could be really good – would like to see the detail in the combat mechanics ramped up (reactions, combat stances, readied attacks etc) rather than just a stripped down version of AoS with character advancement. Hrm, sounds rather brisk where you are. @rayzryr and I can probably spare an extra 20 degrees celsius that we don’t need at the moment if it would help out? Presently sitting in the middle of a heatwave… and sweet conversion! for yourself or for a commission?

@arkmechanicus very cool – have you seen the Angel Giraldez books? He does beautiful work then slaps a bunch of masking epoxy all over stuff and has another go. I’d be paranoid that I’d mess up the first set of work. Anyhow, the books are well worth a look if you haven’t had the chance already. Nice work so far!

@onlyonepinman that’s some fancy looking metallics. And yes the windshields do look really good too.

@woldenspoons I picked up the vanguard rulebook when it was first released (was 50% off in the first week for some reason?…). I got as far as flicking through and getting disappointed that I couldn’t see an option for a ‘Kingdom of men’ warband. I’ll have to go and give it a proper read. It does look like good fun from the playthroughs I’ve seen online. Ah, good to hear that your gaming store does a wide variety of genres as far as gaming goes:

    C&W

@mage hope the time with your son was enjoyable. Heh, so much terrain in your paint queue, good to hear 🙂 printer is a Prusa I3Mk2 so expensive enough once you tack on shipping, taxes and import costs. has probably paid for itself so far as far as terrain goes but I’m hoping to get many more years worth out of it. Fix shouldn’t be too bad – just a few hours of cursing and swearing and throwing tools away in annoyance. you know, just like assembling minis 🙂

And while I think of it, two important matters. Firstly I’ll run this thread for another week in ‘holiday mode’ and then we can flip back to regular unscheduled anarchy programming. And secondly, and more importantly, if memory serves this weekend is Matty’s birthday so @biggabum please wish him a happy birthday from all of us 🙂 Hope he has a great time 🙂

@evilstu I think Mantic just released all the factions including the old Warhammer ones on Mantic digital so should be on there.

I think vanguard would have suited a 2 player starter set for tokens and dice etc but it sounds like it is doing well regardless.

Hobby pledge this weekend is to work on my all out war and here’s Negan figures. If I’m feeling very productive I may even get the old cup of hot water out for the Star Saga figures and scenery to straighten then out.

Not particularly planning on any gaming but you never say never.

@woldenspoons thanks for the tip, can’t seem to locate it but I’ll have another look in the morning. Relaxing sounding pledge, best of luck with the progress!

@horati0nosebl0wer grand work on the conversion!

As @evilstu said, we have heat to spare if you want it. When you can see the paint drying on a wet palette, then the wet palette drying, well you know it’s a bit warm for painting… ?

@evilstu you’re welcome, and thank you!

I’m gonna take a short break from the project, just assemble some Space Marines. New project that I’ve been planning for a while… ?

Yep, that balance of minis and imagination is  my preference too.

Well, I spent my whole evening updating my project. I took a few photos before the sun went down, but I wasn’t home as early as I had expected to be (of course ?)

I really need a better net connection and a new pc. Oh well, soon soon.

    Tragedy occurred too:

    5776C87E-D06D-40E1-9517-89BD095FD256

I was trying to get this one off the top of the paint pot. In a hurry to get him into the photo shoot with the other dark elves I was a bit rough ?

Ah well, a bit of superglue, and hopefully this one will be ok.

Due to a glue accident (mistake) i have ordered new brushes! And one pot of paint. That’s about it. Got a late Christmas present with a D&D book and a Starfinder supplement. Cant wait!

@evilstu @rayzryr Don’t worry about the temperature here too much. Its about 12.2 C. January into February is normally cold. The last real dumps of snow (something I believe you guys out there only get to see on film) happen in March. I remember years ago getting flurries on the 4th of July which threw a monkeywrench in the plans for some people seeing fireworks that night. Last real news that I heard of from out near you was comparisons of the heatwave drought and man drought. Odd to hear but then again you have things called brumbies, billabongs and a bunyip.

@woldenspoons We never buy figures to actually play with them. Are you serious that someone puts their hard work in peril of being chipped? Dear lord, what madness is this you speak of?!

@rayzryr See, madness has occurred! That is crap luck on the figure. Pin that poor figure if it hasn’t been already and avoid repeat of the same. If it is pinned just try and put in longer ones into the lower leg. Superglue is great but that kind of thing is bound to happen again at some point and is a pain to try and keep applying.

@mage How can getting more supplies be a mistake? Having one set of fine hair brushes for the regular paint and a set of cheap nylon for metallics is perfectly reasonable.

With everybody talking about upgrading their painting gear I’ve sat and thought about lighting my desk. Its nice to have a lot of light on the airbrush area but I just don’t have anything else that is easily manageable. I’ve found 5000k daylight LED strips that I think I can build some slimline diffusers for and get better use from my devoted area. I was inspired by the things I’ve seen done with rimless aquariums and figured that it can also work for this hobby. I’m debating the inclusion of soft light boxes as an option to avoid direct lighting shadow issues so its all up in the air. I think I just need to see what kind of output the light strip kicks out.

In the meantime… Lets kick this pig!

I updated my painting gear oh hell yeah. I got the new GeeDubya hi tech water pot. I can hear some of you groaning. Probably the same few who groaned about the painting handle. Seriously it’s really good. Oh and some paint trays for space saving shenanigans.

My Star Saga extra figure arrived today so excited about that too.

Well that serves me right, miss a couple of weeks and come back to 9 pages to work through 😀

Uhhhm good news is that there was no reason for my absence other than my youngest, Chris, bought me Red Dead Redemption 2 as an early Christmas Pressy and I sort of got …. well…. engrossed.

Hope everybody had as good a Christmas and New year  as we did here.

Soooo me and Matty got some goodies

I’ve made a start on Matty’s Kraken and hoping to get some paint on it over the weekend.

@evilstu It is indeed Matty’s Birthday on Sunday and Kudo’s to you Sir for remembering…. without the aid of the constant flood of Post It notes that have been appearing in strategic places around our house reminding us. Matty says Thanks.

    Anyhoo back to the Kraken.

(will go back through the thread later)

@biggabum that’s a mighty haul indeed! Can you let us know what you think of the TTCombat terrain? I’ve been interested in getting some myself, totally not their necromancer pylon honest, but I’ve not taken the plunge yet.

Happy birthday to our hidden member Matty and I think I can remember seeing some tactical advice for his army.

@woldenspoons the TT terain isnt bad at all, not on a par with 4ground mind, but simpler to put together and a lot cheaper. The scatter terrain is excellent.

The only piece I was disappointed with was the subway entrance, one of the walls was noticeably shorter than the mirror piece and there was nothing I could do to salvage the thing. Normally I would have got back to them about it but it was only £4.

Arrrgh that bloody Kraken…. I’ver had all the Matty jokes: “I love that model Dad, it’s Kraken.”, “Hey Dad dont press so hard on that… I think it’s Kraken.” amongst others.

    Oh and he said thankyou.

@biggabum well we’re all keen to see how the finished model looks so hurry up… or if you prefer, well, you know… ;-P Odd about the subway – could you maybe bulk it up with card or balsa or something to get it to align?

@elessar2590 great looking army! And well done on getting that lot turned around so quickly too.

Spent today working on a block of 12 Bretonnian knights. I find cavalry a bit painful to work through. And have another 30 to do shortly after this batch for my Middenheim cavalry component. Still, managed to get  a bunch of infantry for that force primed before I ran out of my last couple of rattlecans late this week. Cancon is later this month so can restock on my hobby consumables then. Have also been playing with some boats for my High Elf Sea Patrol force. Was going to do a varnish coat today but there were storms forecast (which have now arrived – loving the cooler weather 🙂 ) so I didn’t want to do anything in case the humidity messed up the varnish. Might try to add a  coat later in the week. Best laid plans and all that…

    I hate viruses >_<

Anyhoo, not a massive amount of hobby, just some more construction:

after the grenade-throwing Grav-gunner figured it would be fun to try  and build a squad using the Mk VIII armour legs from the Deathwatch kit (I’ve got like 20 sets spare so what the hell). Took parts from the 3rd Edition (still got a load of those parts knocking around), Mk III, Mk IV and the latest Tactical squad kits to make a neat little combat squad. Had to file off a lot of the more obviously Deathwatch iconography but otherwise these are straight builds. May have to knock together the other half of the squad…..

    2019-01-04 20.28.03

And digging through the metals box put together some older minis that I think will serve as interesting test-beds…..

Right, I’m back to the apple tea and catching up on podcasts. Have a good one  folks 🙂
