Just primer a buttload of Lannister’s. There’s a good bit of black spray paint on my hand. Keen to get some hobby in now after a hectic week with eirk

ill make individual comments later. Right now I’m going to chill and hobby now the housework is mostly done. It is sorely needed

@evilstu that terrain presented some great fun to play on, although my one unit stayed on the roof top the whole game.  Also loving the seige machines even more with some paint on them.

@woldenspoons I haven’t played seriously since 3rd either, last game I had was Company of Iron where Hawk excelled and earned the right to a full paint job.  Thanks for the camera tip I’ll have a go, alternatively I’ll break out the DSLR and take a proper photo.

@dawfydd what have you used to strip the paint off that lot so well?  I found brake fluid worked well with metals, but dettol was a smelly mess with the plastics.

@mage the containers are looking good there – how do you find the Game of Throne game?

@jodain I’ve taken to using Biostrip 20. I had tried various other products – Nitro Mors, Fairy Power Spray, Dettol, but thisstuff gets the best overall results.

    It’s got a few quirks over other strippers;

    • It’s a goo as opposed to a liquid, with the consistency of yogurt.
    • Non-toxic, so you can handle it bare-handed, but also means it has no smell and doesn’t react the same way the others can do to water
    • Versatile – so far I’ve used it on metals, GW plastics, and some resin. Now I’ve been told it can melt right through resins, and previous efforts have found thin bits of plastic models susceptible to bending or coming apart if left to soak for too long, but generally does the business.

@jodain That sounds like a fun game of Legion, Id imagine Han got cleaved in half. As for your friends board it lokos fantastic, very lucky to have access to that! Also, First Mate Hawk is looking on point.

@woldenspoons Painting an army entirely white? I both envy your drive, admire your choice and lament the work ahead of you.

@onlyonepinman That is some fine airbrushing.

@biggabum Unleash the Kraken! What do you call it when I pirate crashes? An Arrrrgh TC (RTC = Road Traffic Collission).

@horati0nosebl0wer I am indeed. Already kicked it up a notch! BAM! Nice resiny bits. Goblin tanks, sounds promising!

@evilstu It is indeed. Did a lot of priming today, doing a lot of assembly (and green stuffing later to be ready for priming tomorrow) and a bit of painting (my brushes are kinda banjaxed). Loving the blue on the horses and that 3d printing stuff is looking damn fine, I must say!

@dawfydd Painting space marines? Highly unexpcted 

I put off answering this thread for a bit but felt great typing up the answer. Back to the paint station.

Page 11 replies (and probably only page 11 for now, haha!):

@jodain In all honesty I have not played it yet, as I have a lot going on. Still, I will get around to it! Just gonna get some basecoats down before playing. Unpainted or just primed… irks me.

@mage come on man, keep up.

My Deathguard are already dirty white. I’m attempting to make the Retribution clean white, to see if I can.

Also I’m currently trying out an alternate black skin method, the Salamanders one, on my walking dead. If it turns out good then I may do the Ret with it too. Clean white armour and really dark skin should look so cool.

Purchase wise, I picked up the new white dwarf. I like it so far. They can stop giving me posters though.

I also picked up some willing volunteers for my Alexandria Faction in the walking dead. Maggie and Glenn on horseback and Eugene and Rosita. And I also picked up the Sphinx Medic for Star Saga. Another model to paint white!

Sadly though it’s 6 days until I see daylight so with the exception of some assembly I won’t get much hobby done.

I managed to get a bit of hobby done today despite taking down Christmas decorations and changing car headlights among other things.  I have got all the base colours down on the Pelican.  I’m going for a more civilian theme to it, like it’s some kind of corporate transport rather than military.

It needs some washes now to dirty it up a little and also to pick out some of the panels.  I probably won’t take it much further than that as it’s only a scenery piece.  I might add a few transfers to it as I have a few Infinity sheets lying around

On top of that I have been sorting out some Battle Systems fantasy terrain. I’m a big fan of Battle Systems terrain and have backed every Kickstarter they’ve run so far apart from the post apocalypse (and I am currently regretting not buying a set of the Shanty Town).  However somehow we have ended up with 3 sets of the fantasy terrain, two of which are still in their boxes.  I don’t know how we ended up with three,  normally we would buy one each or just buy one between us and get loads of add ons.  Anyway, there’s now only one set still in its box, the other has now been separated and sorted. It’s great stuff but straight out of the box it requires several hours of effort.  I also have a set of the Galactic Sci-Fi stuff also still in the box which I also plan to sort out this week.

Okay, took my Switch for a spin, almost finished the second container sprue that arrived with an issue of conquest, and did significant work on the Goblin Throne. They are almost done. Also assembled Nightvault, cant remember if I said that or not. Quite late here and raining so its not looking good for priming tomorrow.

Tomorrow I will try and assemble Conquest, gap fill it and prime it. Hoping to prime Shadespire too. Im also going to tear into the Goblin Scribe and move onto Radagast, possibly Dwalin as well.

@jodain Very good work for doing the photots to show off the minis. A much better way to see it. My only recommendation for more photos is to diffuse the light. Shining the light through a white tshirt will do wonders to cut down on the glare on your metallics. I’d suggest just hit to the raised areas a bit, like the folds and the bandanna, with some highlights and you’re golden. I’ll always keep in mind from a local group the phrase “If you think you’re done with highlighting do it three more time”. Thinking about how we try and grab attention from 2 feet away to draw in to the 2 inch zone for exploring detail this is a mantra that can’t be beat.

Watch the black pants with straight black. Its a tricky color to get right so I’ll suggest looking a couple of tutorials from Vince Venturella. The one for hair really makes a good case for how to do most black in just highlighting and dropping it down with washes.

@evilstu I’m going to be putting in a lot of work in order to get the actual models painted in a manner I think best suite them. The dirigible will be lots of work just for assembly. I got the tanks cleaned up and the tracks pinned to subassemble onto the hulls today at work.

    20190106_180650[1]

The further plans for them is to magnetize the turret and allow it to spin free and magnetize the 6 weapon options up front. Soon enough I’ll have a few painted pieces to show aside from all the building.

Keen to see your work coming along on those siege engines. The only ones I recall ever seeing for GW play pieces were for the LoTR orc forces.

@woldenspoons I’ll keep my links for nautical nonsense to myself for the moment as you might want to avoid the wrath of your great power of “She Who Must Be Obeyed”.

@dawfydd Its crazy to watch how much work you’re putting into the killteam plan but definitely interesting at the same time. I’ve looked at 40K before and thought it might be cool to get into but there was just so much backstory and force management that it was daunting. The Dark Angels looked like a cool faction of Space Marines with plenty of options to play with in figure mods. The fluff for the Star Phantoms seems to be the group I’d play Kill team with. Overpowered firepower to achieve one’s ends.. yes kill the fly with a cannon. Sun Tzu be damned. Also, sweet deal on the cleanup. It’s always a good thing when minis give up the paint without needing too much work.

I’ve heard a bit about the Biostrip and it reminded me about the spot stripping of heads for figures while leaving the rest alone. I might need to look into this product.

@onlyonepinman That transport reminds me of the transport in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Good stuff

@mage Keep on keeping on. I’ll be right behind you with work here soon.

Yes, I’m back. Sorry for the long radio silence but I stayed away from Work and the Internet as far as I could the last two weeks 😉

I literally finished my first run of “Subnautica” yesterday night and man that game is addictive. On the Hobbyfront there was also a hiatus due to lack of space where I could prime miniatures at our current weather. But a “secrit tekk projekt” is a step further along the lines…. I hope I’ll see (or hear) some pewpew soon 😉

No, run along, nothing to see here.

PS: Santa Fett (or is it Boba Clause?) will get a proper picture with the forces. Just you wait.

@onlyonepinman by the way good sir, that flyer looks better every time I look at it. So many games it could be used in. Infinity being the obvious one.

I’m thinking Infinity and Warpath.  But also Infinity RPG and Shadowrun RPG.  I have also been tempted to look at the gang skirmish rules from Osprey, the name escapes me at the moment, because I have a sizable collection of cyberpunk style miniatures.  I’m quite keen on the near future/clean sci-fi vibe.  If anyone is interested it’s the Revell Snap-together UNSC Pelican kit and you can pick them up for about £26 off Amazon.   In terms of size it’s bigger than an Astra Militarum Valkyrie

It’s been fun and I’ve learnt loads, but now I really must get on with painting something different!

    Looking forward to it!

@evilstu I’ve got the angel book, and was thinking about getting hold of one of the models, to do a kind of follow along, think it could be useful.

@onlyonepinman the stuff came off pretty easily, using white tack to sort of sponge it off, seemed allright!
