Would be great to see you again in person!
I made a pledge to myself that playing will be in the foreground this time round and I’m hoping to bring some painted stuff over so I won’t be too tempted..(he says!).
cant wait for the ticket sale to go live!
where do I need to look, does anybody know?
August 2, 2018 at 2:21 pm #1244135Be announced either in Weekender (probably xlbs to start) or via blog as non this weekend.
They are still awaiting some confirmation before they can put things according to Lance yesterday
Then we tell John and prep him for the work he will be doing.
August 2, 2018 at 2:33 pm #1244151Well and truly up for this as a first boot camp. Just need to cross my fingers work give me the time off and I’m quick enough getting a ticket.
August 2, 2018 at 3:13 pm #1244165Thanks very much @brucelea , @jamjarst , @suetoniuspaullinus , @bobcockayne – fingers crossed all works out here at work, with the flights, with hurricane season, etc.
I’ll likely be part of the “staff” for the event, so the good news is my ticket is “pre-reserved …” the bad news is I don’t know how much I’ll be able to really get stuck into the actual table top games. Depends on how much stuff the BoW team and I get lined up to do over the weekend itself.
I plan to be in Northern Ireland a good bit afterwards, at least 3 days.
August 2, 2018 at 3:19 pm #1244166@oriskany got a fair amount of books etc on this etc particularly LRDG , planning to bring up book if get place on Afika Korps uniforms.
Any idea which bit of desert war your planning to look at being as you’ve already done Tunisia and Alamein?
August 2, 2018 at 3:29 pm #1244170Several things remain up in the air at the moment, @bobcockayne – not the least of which is 100% whether I can make it. A lot of this will depend on what kind of staff work we can get lined up between myself, Beasts of War, and of course Warlord. Granted, I’m at 98% or so, but 98 is not 100. 😐
What parts of the Desert War are highlighted are also subject to what the team wants and the exact composition of what will be included in the army kits for the Boot Camp, Warlord’s input, and of course BoW. I try to be a “team player” whenever I can. 😀
As for covering the Desert War, we’ve actually covered the WHOLE Middle East / Africa campaign, from Morocco to Madagascar, from Chad to Syria, although this “overarching” series is a little old. We definitely hit the LRDG in here, though, I am well versed in their exploits and those of the early SAS.

August 2, 2018 at 3:48 pm #1244181EEk ! thanks @oriskany give me a start on background reading , read mountains of material on period but its been a couple of years (and I’ve moved house) your links will give me a chance to get back into it, plus got to forget all the alt history I read in
‘The Whale has Wings’
or I’m going to be putting size 10’s in it !
The Warlord 8th Army starter has Valentines in it which means it covers middle to late desert war. Does give me an excellent excuse to read a book I have from a Valentine vet from period, who reckoned his unit always road them into battle backwards as it was as fast in reverse as forwards the armour was as good if not better as it was slopped, the engine was between them and the sharp objects coming towards them. To prove his point he mentions he tried to destroy a broken down one by shooting it from the rear and went off in disgust muttering about ‘bloody 2pdr’.
August 4, 2018 at 4:54 pm #1245811This sounds brilliant, could be my first foray into miniatures gaming. Keeping an eye out for tickets.
August 4, 2018 at 4:57 pm #1245823August 4, 2018 at 6:42 pm #1245986This is going to be very tough to get a ticket for but while fantasising that I may succeed I realised I don’t have any desert terrain! So made some while I wait to see if I get to go. I also didn’t realise how hard reference images would be to get a hold of, feel free to point me in a direction my google foo failed me and this was made from one image. Will texture and paint the two of these I made tomorrow while checking the site for News
.

I have been collecting mainly Germans for some time now but haven’t been able to play as yet so the boot camp would be the perfect opportunity for me to learn from the devs
I live in Northern Ireland and She who must be obeyed has given permission to attend if I can get a ticket ?
Only problem is the lack of clarity as to when and how the announcement of the ticket release goes live?
Here’s hoping
August 5, 2018 at 10:19 am #1246590Having never played or collected historical but knowing how much I loved the last Bootcamp I am now torn between coming because I know just how good it will be and not attending so I don’t potentially take a ticket away from someone hardcore into the genre.
I would love to learn the game and use it as an entry point but maybe that is not the point of this Bootcamp.
