Work has begun 🙂 went for the Perry DAK plastics. But looking forward to getting my hands on the Warlord Games DAK
Here’s a slightly more detailed look at the 4th Indian Division’s OOB for the outset of Crusader.
It’s from gregpanzerblitz.com , so comes already “pre-translated” into “gamer-language” for us.
Each “x1” count here is a platoon, troop, or battery for artillery.
So, for instance, 7th Indian Brigade would have a battery of 76mm mortars, a section of trucks to carry them around, probably other HQ units and trucks. Then three line battalions (1st Bn/Royal Sussex, 4th Bn/11th Sikh, 4th Bn/16th Punjab). Each of these would have 12 line platoons of rifles (organized into four companies, I would imagine), a platoon of engineers, and two sections of Bren carriers.
I also have access to 7th Armoured OOB at this time, Tobruk Garrison (70th Infantry, 32nd Army Tank Brigade, Polish Carpathian Rifle Brigade), South Africans, New Zealanders, other XIII and XXX Corps UK units, etc.
And of course the Germans and Italians. 😀
So I have now worked out my planned forces for the Bootcamp I am bringing a LRDG /SAS force for a bit of sneaky stuff.
I am also sorting out a basic infantry force which will represent the 2nd Battalion of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. Who fought with the 4th Division of the 10th Infantry Brigade. They were in North Africa 41-43 and were at Tobruk, Belhamed, Tunis
@torros Read them years ago, funny but you can see his Breakdown developing as they go on.
@brucelea they did send some of the mediums to the Desert pre war
Only one one could find on line but have tons of them in ‘Tanks in Camera’
Sure I’ve got one one them guarding Italian prisoners.
Which I’m planning to bring to bootcamp, with some other source books.
@buggeroff – “same here …” is that regarding the campaign?
Also, @commodorerob – I don’t know if you’re “in” or not. 😀 Some of these answers aren’t clear and I don’t want to presume.
Depending on how many people opt in, determines whether we’re doing it, and what support materials I have to ship ahead of me. So I’m just trying to plan.
Sorry Jim, think that was a response to something Brucie or Torros said, I was on my mobile so I didn’t reply correctly. Also why I did a double post 😐
Cool, @buggeroff , that’s what I thought. 😀
@oriskany I am up for joining in 🙂
This may the place to ask such a random and hard to find bit of military history. How do you fuel a bren carrier? Or a better question may be what section is the fuel put in? 2.5 hours I have been looking and short of purchasing a copy of the service manual I can’t work it out I want to put fuel stains on the model but unlike most tanks I can’t locate something that looks like a fuel cap or service hatch that I am confident would be used for this.
Things I have tried. Google first 50 hits, image search, looking at blueprints and repair and restoration videos. Inspecting every section of the warlord plastic kit. Can’t find it. I am starting to think they run on air.
Any help to avoid damage to my searching equipment would be most welcome.
@soapdodger :
Something that looks like a fuel cap is dead center, top view of this blue print, but it could be something else :
https://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints-depot/tanks/tanks-b/bren-carrier-mkii-4.png
The 1:6 scale replica shows the location at around the 1:25 minute in bottom right of the screen :
I can’t identify anything looking like a fuel cap in these pictures though :
http://horsa.bizland.com/OBLI/T16.htm
Maybe it is too small to model at this scale ?
Here’s another video :
At the fron of the vehicle there appears to be some sort of tube (to the right of the yellow five).
Could be something useful.
