Also, what’s that new GW Space Marines game that they released, or were previewing?  You get 4 marines, some board tiles and some little Necron tokens (which you could very easily upgrade to actual Necrons).  Can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called but apparently it’s aimed at a young audience.

The name is Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons.

Once he is a little bit older you might want to look at Mice and Mystics, it’s age 7 up.

One thing to mention in response to some of the other suggestions – I believe that both Blitz Bowl and Space Marine Adventures are currently only available in the US.

I think that pace marine adventures was advertised in this month’s UK white dwarf. I assume that means it will be available in the UK soon.

I was asking in a board game group about Stuffed Fables as I want to buy it for a 4 year old and their parents this year.  Seems it is suitable for that age if the child is up for it and mum and dad do all the reading.  One person said they had played it with their child before they turned 4 and they loved it.

I think you can simplify it even further to make it fun for younger kids.
