Another period of history I know absolutely nothing about but these are new Paul Hicks sculpts and are going to be released by him and Andy Hobday sometime in the future.  These figures are for the First Baron War (1215-1217) but the plan will be to do both First and Second Baron Wars.  Figures are absolutely lovely, could fit in many a Crusader army and more information copied and pasted from Mr Hobday’s facebook below.

Many moons ago when I started with Footsore the first project I really, really wanted to do was the Barons’ War(s). This is because I have three periods I am mad keen on over everything else which are Samurai (no surprise if you know me), The Norman Conquest (all of it) and The Barons’ War(s).

Our very first Footsore project was going to be a game set during the First Barons’ War which I am sure would have stretched to include the Second and I got so excited when Paul Hicks agreed to work with us as the sculptor. Fast forward a number of years and because of other projects, it never got off the ground.

After recent discussions at Footsore it was agreed between us as a company we are no way closer to funding this project especially with everything we have in the pipeline so the earliest we would probably look at it again would be 2021!

So because I really, really can’t wait until then and after talks with Mr Hicks he and I have made the bold decision to make this range ourselves. ? (I am sure if I ask nicely Footsore Miniatures & Games will manufacture them).

More news on this range and what we are going to do with it when we have news to share in the meantime here are the first pictures. ?

I can’t sleep tonight, but have been brushing up on my history!

Interesting discussion on the Battle of Lincoln in 1217 https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08njv60

(Even though it is on the radio, if you have an interest in history, I will say, In Our Time is worth the TV licence fee alone)

More previews, more angles, more Paul Hicks goodness (all shamelessly stolen from Facebook and a wee update below).

    •The Barons’ War•
An initial twenty sculpts finished by Mr Hicks which I think look tremendous so I’m now very excited. Before anyone says anything the mounted knights do need horses. ?
Just weighing up if my kids really need to go to university or not before we push on. ?

    Another update from Andy Hobday

The resin masters have been made for the first packs of archers, mounted knights and spearmen. Very pleased to see the crisp detail carried over from Paul’s sculpts. ?

I am perhaps preaching to the converted here, but in case anyone else stumbles upon this searching for info on the Baron Wars, Wargames Illustrated August 2019 has a rather fun but thought provoking article called “An Early 13th Century Guide to Invading England” by editor and owner of the magazine, Dan Faulconbridge.

There is also a very good painting tutorial by Ben Macintyre for the Prince Louis figure that @avernos posted above.

My copy of the magazine also came with a sprue of Warlord’s Praetorian Guard, so a few bonus figures for some SPQR.

I did a vast amount of medieval history at uni, specifically on the Angevins – i remember alot of the early stuff, but should really remember more about this -time to blow the cobwebs off the books and re read a few of them!

    these are really nice minis!

Another Update on the project from Mr Hobday!

    •The Barons’ War•
Another 12 sculpts finished by Mr Hicks which I believe look tremendous giving us in total 8 x foot knights, 8 x bowmen and 8 x spearmen.
These three packs along with the others we have so far gives us an initial 32 miniatures for this range with more on the way. ?
