Over on the GW community site they are talking about limited stocks and queues ready for the releases of the Dominion box.
Few weeks ago they said there would be plenty of copies, but we all expected that to be bull excrement.
Thankfully I decided to not bother and instead preordered 7TV Fantasy from Crooked Dice.
And if you’re wondering… it goes on on sale at 10am local time in most regions… and they’re limiting to two copies per customer… so that’s sold out at 10:15 and on sale from scalpers at double the price a few minutes later.
June 19, 2021 at 2:02 am #1657282They must have allocated too many to New Zealand then.
I got in around 10:30 am, with only a 1 minute wait in the queue, and it was still available.
Just checked at 1 pm, the queue has gone, and the box is still available. Nothing, including the limited edition Core Book, has sold out.
June 19, 2021 at 6:51 am #1657287my hunch is that the queue system is to limit scalpers with bot accounts from rushing in, as they’ll be in the queues too. Limiting any pre-order to 2 copies should be a standard – because really who needs multiples of anything like that if they’re not a retailer?
June 19, 2021 at 8:32 am #1657302I like that they finally thought of using a queue system …
I’m not sure why they even allow more than 1 copy per customer though.
btw : in Europe we still need to wait ’til 11:00 CEST … so maybe the real stampede has yet to begin and the New Zealand folks got lucky ?
June 19, 2021 at 11:08 am #1657375Just had a look at the uk store just now, and after a 5 min wait I was in and it was in stock. Looks like it is all working smoothly.
June 19, 2021 at 11:12 am #1657376Ive had a bloody nightmare, I made 2 orders as I wasnt sure if the first went through. Now I dont think either went through as I had no confirmation from GW but did get one from PayPal. I put a third in and received a confirmation from GW as well as Paypal so now I think Ive just sent GW a load of money for no actual products for the first two orders… Oh well Im guessing itl be fairly straightforward to get the money back, I dont really want all the orders to turn up though, just one will do!
I suspect it was an issue with the queue system logging me out just as Im putting the order through and usually I wouldve just left it but I was worried Id then miss my chance. SIGH!
June 19, 2021 at 11:26 am #1657377Further to the last the web store is now down for maintenance so I wonder if this has been a bigger problem than just with me?
June 19, 2021 at 12:48 pm #1657385I’ve just gone in 2.5 hours after pre-orders went live and nothing is out of stock yet. Although, I’ve decided against ordering anything. £125 is a good deal for the main box, but I felt some of the other bits I had my eye on (limited edition novel, objective set) just didn’t really grab me when seeing more pictures.
June 19, 2021 at 1:04 pm #1657386@solar – sorry for your bad experience.
In NZ it has just clicked over midnight, so we are into Sunday – I’m staying up to listen to the Cricket World Test Championship between New Zealand and India….
Check of the NZ version of the GW website…. Nothing is sold out yet.
June 19, 2021 at 1:04 pm #1657387Yeah, it looks like their new queuing system has, on the whole, been successful. Hopefully it’ll mean less moaning online about GW… aye, right!
June 19, 2021 at 1:11 pm #1657388To be fair to GW the system did seem to work quite well and as most stuff is still in stock I think its done the job, afaik the only things out of stock are the limited special editions of the novel, there were 1000 of each apparently. My transactions are pending on Paypal so I think I just need to wait for GW to cancel them or wait for a period of time and they will automatically cancel so its not a huge problem
June 20, 2021 at 12:52 am #1657514either the queue system worked or GW did overstock 😉
I’ve noticed that the box is still listed as ‘available’ … so I’m taking the positive option and assume that the queue worked and stopped the scammer bots from buying everything within minutes.
The negative option would be that people just don’t like the boxed set …
So far the only negative thing I’ve heard is that GW decided to sell stock meant for 3rd parties so there may be a few retailers that are going to have to dissappoint their customers by telling them there’s going to be delays.
Not sure how much of that is true or just plane ol’ GW hatred. I wouldn’t put it past GW (or any big company) to do that though, especially given the not so friendly relation they have with their retailers.
June 20, 2021 at 3:01 am #1657530It sure that the Dominion pre-orders are going the way GW wanted.
I just logged in here in dear ol’ NZed (Sunday 20th June 2021 1:50 pm) and the only thing to have temporarily sold out online is the AoS Combat Gauge.
Also the Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Coin Malleus Command Tokens that our local GW had been advertising as a in-store pre-order exclusive is now being added to any online pre-order.
Additionally they are offering, “while stocks last!”, free objective markers with every order of Dominion. This isn’t in the text of the box set, but a banner that is at the top of the pre-order page – nice and big, so that you can’t miss it.
Whether this is the NZ$90 Realmscape Objective Set, Dominion itself is NZ$345, or just something else they had lying around the office from a previous give away, is unclear…
I certainly didn’t spot it any time on Saturday, so I believe it is new.
June 20, 2021 at 6:46 am #1657566@hobbyhub those tokens were being advertised on the uk page on sat as well from what I remember. I think they also did something similar with indomitus.
June 22, 2021 at 5:01 pm #1658383GW always throw in a few extra bits to get you to pay extra at their shop …
Overall they do appear to have had a better supply of boxes compared to Cursed City & Indomitus releases (or any preorder for one of their boxed sets thus far).
Heck … I apparently can still buy a set if I want to, which wasn’t possible with Indomitus and Cursed City as all of that was gone the first day of pre-orders.
Rumour has it that it may have gone at the cost of supply that initially was reserved for 3rd parties, but given that we can’t see what they really did there is no actual proof of shenanigans (I suspect that any proof would potentially damage the ability of such shops to order from GW … but that is conspiracy theory territory ).
It’s a damn shame no journalists are willing to dig into the business practices that GW & co use …
