well that`s a let down….. a reskin only, using the old rules which people say are outdated with todays games. And of course the price and as another just said USA only..!!! its a “bag of crazy” ideas indeed. If your a old gamer then you may already own HQ or even print you know copy. If your a younger player would dungeon sage say offer you more ?
Lets see tomorrow what the world thinks and i sense the whole weekender will be about this… warriens 3D copy is the winner i think….
September 28, 2020 at 11:12 pm #1570135> And, here is the Trademark Application from Restoration Games:
fwiw, There’s a difference between the application (“intent to use basis”) and trademark itself. In the USA, the trademark must be used in commerce, for it to provide protection. In other countries, they may still have the “first to file” (which can result in trademark squatting and other IP headaches preventing foreign distribution).
“(In the USA) Trademark use in commerce is required to establish ownership of a trademark. Historically, use in commerce is defined as a product, name, packaging, or another form of branding that is sold across state lines rather than just within a state.
https://www.upcounsel.com/trademark-use-in-commerce“(In the USA) If you have not used your mark in commerce yet, but have a good faith intention to do so in the future, you can file an application to register your trademark or service mark under an intent-to-use (ITU) filing basis.
https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks-application-process/filing-online/intent-use-itu-applications“Why Is Trademark Squatting Possible? : In the United States, a person or a business entity acquires the rights to a trademark by the actual use of a symbol, word, etc. in a commercial context. Therefore, according to the U.S. legal system, trademark ownership both precedes the registration and is an essential prerequisite for it. This is called the first-to-use rule. No all countries, however, follow the same rule; some honor the “first-to-file” principle. This means that the rights to a trademark are obtained by the means of registration and the actual use isn’t a necessary requirement. In countries like China, this allows malicious actors to register trademarks that are well known in other countries and try to make a profit off of it.
https://apb-law.com/trademark-squatting-explained/Hasbro, of course, took the easy route towards avoiding overseas IP issues, though they said they might release HQ in EU in 2022 (or at least said, go away don’t ask us again until that time). Who knows what they’ll name it, and how it will be sold.
October 8, 2020 at 1:26 pm #1573125Soooooo…. In case anybody still cares and hadn’t heard.
Hasbro has “partnered” with distributors in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. But only for the more expensive 149USD/GBP version.
United Kingdom, the Quest is Calling! The #HeroQuest Mythic Tier is now available at Zavvi: https://t.co/s1AFQWxAIs #HeroQuestUnlocks

As of now, they are at 1,9 million USD so the last “stretch goal” hasn’t been achieved yet.
Am I the only one feeling angry about this?
October 8, 2020 at 2:25 pm #1573149If it was avalaible in Germany I might care, but right now I don’t care.
October 8, 2020 at 4:03 pm #1573152Am I the only one feeling angry about this?
I just get angry that platforms are consistently “hijacked” by people looking to make a quick buck. Kickstarter is a classic example – originally a platform for people to “invest” in ideas to raise funds to get them off the ground, it’s little more than a “pre-order” system right now (a listed company like Hasbro using it to “raise funds” is an insult to what Kickstarter is supposed to be about).
But it’s the same with Patreon – originally a platform to enable people to support creators (through micro-payments) to produce their artistic works (with a reward system for backers) it’s become a “shop front” for a lot of “content creators” – many of whom are simply releasing their existing back catalogue in a cheap money-grab (yes, RNEStudio, I’m looking at you).
October 8, 2020 at 4:47 pm #1573155I was just coming in to tell people about Zavvi.
October 8, 2020 at 5:20 pm #1573161I know it’s an old game with old mechanics and ( funky WoW type ) new art, but it’s getting at me through the nostalgia node and it would be nice to own it again.
October 8, 2020 at 5:49 pm #1573165Just backed in the UK on Zavvi… I don’t know if other EU countries can back via Zavvi as well, would be worth checking out… Now I can hope the other expansions become available cause I want those.
October 9, 2020 at 9:18 am #1573283From Zavvi it’s £150 for a $150 game… that’s a bit of a rip off…
I’ll stick with Journeys in Middle Earth thanks.
October 11, 2020 at 10:57 am #1573648I don’t know…
If they had just come out and said “reboot of all of Hero Quest for £150” I might have been inclined to consider it but the gauche crowdfunding campaign, the insulting stretch goals, the the fact you have to get in on the backing to have gender alternative characters, the telling us they have no plans to release it outside the US/Canada and the a week later announcing retail partners, the 25%-sh price hike in the UK…I never played Hero Quest in the day so I was initially interested in the chance to try it out but I also kind of want to tell Hasbro to go stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.
Companies will just continue to take the mick if they keep getting away with it. -
