Posted to Facebook.
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart, that I today learnt of the passing of a dear friend and true artist…
Andy Zeck born 1968 passed away on april 19th.
Andy had a tremendous passion for hobby and painting, his work was ever an inspiration for me – And through an alliance of converted models and his artisan painting skills, many models came to life by his hands.
I’m honoured to have been able to call him a friend – His light was doused too soon to grasp – My thoughts and sincere condolences to his wife Manuela and his daughters.

In his memory and because he was so closely linked to winning them, they should rename the golden button awards after him.
Or name the painting award in the not so annual awards in his honour.
May 1, 2020 at 7:32 pm #1521190What truly aweful news, I’ve been lucky enough to spend several boot camps and shows in his company. A true gent, friend, source of inspiration, hobby buddy and all round top bloke he will be missed!
@commodorerob I second that suggestion

Agree with Rob, The Andy Zeck Medal awarded annually from the golden button winners, perhaps with a community vote?
May 1, 2020 at 7:47 pm #1521196oh wow! this is sad, I will miss having his help with paint schemes and the like and seeing his work pop up so often!
May 1, 2020 at 8:15 pm #1521214A true gent and a gentle soul, he was always generous with his time, knowledge and inspiration. So glad to have spent a few boot camps with him, thoughts and prayers for his family at this difficult time.
Stay safe everyone.

A great contributor to this site and the hobby. You’ll be missed but not forgotten.
May 2, 2020 at 8:04 am #1521347Sorry I haven’t posted on this before now, I’m still rather shell shocked and hurting over this. Andy was special to a lot of us, and he had an ongoing impact on this community, far beyond what most people realise.
So yes I’m with you on us looking at some small way to ensure his memory is cemented into this community in some way. We are gonna take a little bit of time to process it all a bit first…
Rest easy @suetoniuspaullinus, you and your family are in our hearts mate
May 2, 2020 at 9:01 am #1521349So gutted at the news.
I met Andy at The Walking Dead Boot Camp in November 2016.
I had admired his work from the website before i met him and I was oddly star-struck to meet him, but he was so humble, generous with his time and skills that he made my time there some of the happiest i have ever had in the hobby.
It was my first boot camp. He made it feel like we were being cheeky by grabbing some paints, sharing some primer before anyone else and getting some paint on our new models. Andy had painted a fistful of models in next to no time and complimented me on my efforts with Abraham and some tokens.
Andy had brought along a couple of painted models from his Mars Attack collection to see if the marines scaled well with the new models. They were all painted with his brilliant style, with minimal but so effective basing and it was a true pleasure to see him enjoying his hobby.
A measure of the man that comes back to me… Even though he was so good at painting he still made a b-line for the studio painted minis when they were taken from their silver travel case, some from expansion waves we weren’t due to see in a while, and was so impressed by them, offered great praise and joked about taking them home if they left them out too long.
We were able to share drinks in the evenings, he played some of my first games of The Walking Dead with me and contributed heavily towards my love for Beasts of War and the hobby. His beautiful paint jobs inspired me for years to come. Sadly too few years to come, taken from us too soon.
I saw him at Salute each year there after. Had a fist full of Facebook messenger chats with him over the years and regret not chatting with him more often, because he was always really pleasant, humorous, easy with his tips and praise for shared pics and projects and it was always a pleasure to share time and comments with him.
I really miss him now that won’t be possible ever again.
Naming an annual prize after him as mentioned by so many others in this forum already would be a great gesture.
I know we have had Beasts of War OnTableTop members pass before, that were no doubt equally appreciated and well loved in the community and gone without such accolades, but I really feel it would be an awesome gesture to add his name to an existing or new annual painting award because for me he was such an inspiration and such a skilled painter that I can only hope to get close to emulate his efforts some day.
Sorry for going on and on like we were best friends or family or something, but it has been nice to share these memories somewhere and it is hurting far more than I ever thought this kind of news could.
RIP Andy.
May 2, 2020 at 9:05 am #1521350@warzan how about pinning his painting project to the top of the projects page to remember him?
May 2, 2020 at 9:32 am #1521381@dugthefug1644 thank you for finding the words I couldn’t
May 2, 2020 at 12:04 pm #1521484Hard to say anything except a very nice bloke taken too soon, certainly will be missed by this community but thoughts have to be with his family. Seems the world is a bit of a crapshoot at the moment with so much pain everywhere best wishes to everyone and stay safe.
