Love the idea but being brutally honest with myself (and my bank account): unless that happening close to home I won’t be able to attend.

Budget already was tight and now monthly energy costs have gone from ~300 EUR to ~450 EUR (and will probably rise even more). Now to keep in mind that I set aside 100 EUR each month for *all* hobby expenses (that includes Patreons, CoG, minis, paints etc) I already am in a deep red if I keep this up. There is just no way I will be able to afford that. But that is my personal dilemma. The idea itself is grand. But seeing that most CoGs are UK/Ireland based I don’t see much light for me at the end of that tunnel.  :S

If you do a meetup take plenty of pictures for all of us left behind.

I hear you Sundancer, as NHS I’ve been given a pay rise though not had it yet, and even when  I get it will just be eaten up by energy costs.

Strangely an option for the Holiday idea is we come to you . Been a long time since I visited your homeland, a trip down the picturesque Rhine ( my last visit in the late 80’s) or even Berlin , love to see how its changed sincd I was stationed there in 79.

Plus the bonus is we know the beer is good!

    This is sad news 🙁

About Boot camp invasion, Yes, absolutely. specially Greece or some Spanish islands that i could go with kids and Mrs and they could go to play in sand all day and I would play with toys all day !

Don’t know if it’s still going , but remember reading about a war gaming holiday centre in Crete read about  in a wargames mag a few years back.

I’d rather have something local …

or what about a roadtrip to something like Spiel in Essen ?
    Or the UK Expo ?
I know it’s very much a very busy work weekend for the OTT crew (the bootcamps weren’t exactly “holiday” for the team either), but it could be fun to extend that into a “OTT Roadtrip” format.

Just an idea for any RPG’ers how about as part of the trip an evening in a spooky location playing Call of Cthulhu or any other suitably themed RPG’s and locations?

those guys would burn the place down … 😉
Surely ‘experienced’ investigators know to never ever open a book 😀

Playing some form of tank war at Bovington would be kind of cool too 😀

The better question is : how would you scale such an event once it becomes popular ?
I think the bootcamps had a limit of 20-30 guests ? They had a deal with a local for accommodation until the last event I was at when we had to book our own.

Thats a very good idea, gets John involved, specially if he does a tour with everyone (he’ll love that) plus Weymouth (seaside for Warren and family) is not far away with the Nothe Fort, and the Various Naval bits at Portland.

Did just strike me that Warrens idea reduces one expense in not shiney which is usually a good 50% of bootcamp cost.

I loved the shiny that was part of the bootcamp.

And yeah … Tank talks with John would have to be a key part of a road trip featuring tanks 😉
I mean who doesn’t love a good rant about why certain tanks were bad/good 😀

or what about a roadtrip to something like Spiel in Essen ?

This would be very expensive due to hotel and train tickets, it is cheaper to go on holiday in Europe than going to one of expos.  another  thing is on  expo you will not have to play games all day like bootcamp.

bootcamps weren’t exactly “cheap” either after I had finished buying the train & plane tickets (and for the last one : a place to sleep … which was a fair bit of my total expenses for that trip ).

As such anyone who isn’t “local” to wherever the roadtrip OTT wants to organize is is going to have start saving up a fair bit.

It’s not likely to be “geek nation” style expensive ( https://geeknationtours.com ), but unless people are willing to sacrifice a lot of comfort (or Warzan talks Wayland into sponsoring it … ) it’s not going to be super cheap either.

For some of us that would mean sacrificing the family holiday budget …

It also depends on what kind of activities are going to be planned.
Visiting a few gaming related places would be cool enough as an idea.
The fact that you can talk to people with similar interests is a huge bonus.

    Sad news.

Well up for beers, BBQ, talking shite, playing games and remembering absent friends.

I think I join the chorus of “would love to but is really going to depend on where, when, how much and what else the family would be up to”.

I’ll keep an eye out here though.

My biggest wonder is how many possibly attending OTTers have families? Are we more likely to plan something in the quiet period where people might be able to get some time and come alone? Or try and book something collectively in the holidays and have families along somewhere that works with them with the gamers meeting up to play with their toys?

Either could work but it’d shift how I would think about options.

Going by my gut I’d say most here have at least a SO and one or more grotch goblins beautiful offspring in various ages…
