@redvers Willy Miniatures do some excellent stuff – I have picked a few of their Wood Elves myself!

Currently awaiting a Norse team I got off Comixninos – they are a mix of different 3rd party companies so we will see how they stack up next to each other and the GW teams.

I think you are correct that GW’s focus is on shifting boxes of minis, so it’s weird that they seem to take an age to actually get teams out of BB. The last stand alone “new” team they produced was the Necromantic and that must have been October / November of 2020.

Will be interesting to see if they manage to release any old teams and any new teams this year.

In their ongoing pursuit of big minis for all systems that they can charge more for, I am still hopefully they will throw out a chaos renegade / chaos pact team at some point!

Blood Bowl. One game and more miniature making companies doing armies for it than you could shake a stick at… and they come in so many flavours. Brutal, old school, 3D files, resin, metal, chibi cute and and and…

And it feels like every day there is a new Kickstarter for a new team.

    Some of my favourites are:

https://goblinguildminiatures.com/en/fantasy-football/33-trollbrain.html (got that for my snotling team)

    https://www.greebo-games.com/31-fantasy-football

That’s one game you could sink in soooo much money.

Greebo Games do some amazing stuff. I picked up there giant Lizardman character for my Lizardman team. Casting for them being white metal is great as well, huge amount of detail.

Yeah Blood Bowl is such a a team nice little entry game (if that’s all you want it to be) you can pick up the core game – you have two teams, just stick with the box and that is still plenty of game for 2 people. Or you can buy a shedload of official teams, dice, pitches, star players from GW or one of the seemingly hundreds of other companies out there!

It never gets old in that regard, it gets plenty expensive, but not old!

I’d even say that it doesn’t really get expensive. Because there are so much offerings second hand market is one of the few still being cheap. And if you just use the LRB, a DIY field and markers… I just love the game… though I’m terrible at it…

    ha ha, yeah I agree.

It’s probably the only GW game I would actually play on a regular basis – I collect and paint other stuff – but BB is the only one I would sit down for.

With Myth & Goal just being mentioned on The Weekender, how do people feel about over 3rd Party Fantasy Sports themed games?

It’s an interesting question, BloodBowl never went away there has always been a loyal and dedicated following as the large amount of 3rd party miniatures shows. So it will be interesting to see if how it does when it goes to Kickstarter or whatever funding platform they use, although I feel the numbers could be schewed if the models are as good as has been suggested and at a reasonable price point. Also with the exception of dreadball has there been another successful fantasy football game? How well received was privateer press’ version and guildball seemed to have a very short life span.

    A Dreadball fan writes:

I’ll be taking a close look at it. James was part of the Dreadball team (as it were – sorry) and I loved that. It’s not an American football clone but did have that feel but a lot quicker.

I’ve played in leagues and in Mantic’s tournaments and the games very rarely exceeded an hour.

Dreadball isn’t perfect by any means. There are balance issues and though it’s less bad in 2nd edition, the skill teams still really outplay the bash teams.

It’s the speed of play that I loved in DB and if Needy Cat can keep that in this game, I’ll be a fan. If they can give a boost to the orcs, etc. I’ll be a huge fan.

I don’t know. I never touched any of them. And Myth & Goal  strikes me especially odd as it’s shown nothing in the way of mini yet. Only a bit of animated art

@sundancer if you go to their website https://www.blacklistgamesllc.com/post/myth-goal-design-diary-1 there’s a picture with four minis (I’m pretty sure they’re not renders)

@wurzzel thanks for that, I hadn’t noticed that picture.

Interesting they look a strange mix of Greebo Games style miniatures paired with a very generic fantasy take on Orcs / Elves and Dwarves.

Will be intrigued to see where the minis go, if they turn out well they might be worth getting just as another BB Team!

I’m not super thrilled by the look of the minis. If the teams are compatible with Blood Bowl I’d be tempted to look for a rules-and-gubbins only pledge and try find those plastic BB humans I meant to paint all those years ago.

The style is probably because they’re going to be single piece plastics. Also apparently all 4 teams are going to be in the core box.

I’m with @somegeezer – I love the idea of a better, faster, more exciting Blood Bowl, but those minis don’t fill me with excitement. Though, in a peculiar bout of agreeing with @avernos on metal minis, if you’re after a human BB team, the 2nd ed lead-cast human team still looks best, even after all these years 😉

The latest GW orc teams look great but the human teams always feel a bit “static” – even the 2020 version (the recent human nobility team are a bit better). The 2nd ed humans, with players pointing, kicking, catching – even the blockers standing “static” with their hands on their knees – look to have more life to them than any plastic human team!

I’m excited to see the rules for Myth and Goal but they’ve given almost nothing away about how the game will actually play – just that it’s a fantasy football game.

Myth and Goal interview coming this week with some more renders and a talk through of the game, 4 full Blood Bowl sized teams in the core game, all one piece plastic
