Preparing for bad times: building an imperial depot!
It’s from micro art studio and a blast putting together. Nearly no sanding needed and everything fits very fine. Plus the doors open and close 😉
February 18, 2019 at 9:31 pm #1350806February 18, 2019 at 10:16 pm #1350828@evilstu : I got the ‘Erewhon’ book too. Elves are in, but like any other of the examples they are a ‘generic/standard fantasy ‘ example of their type.
The best thing is that each list sort of explains the kind of stereotype the lists fit.
It really matches the ‘Nowhere’ theme as the setting is whatever you want it to be, which makes me think you could use it to run skirmish warband scale Lord of the Rings scenarios if you wanted to. Treemen & Dryads are part of the monster section.Did you get the miniature as well ?
The gnolls are probably the first time I’ve heard of that race outside of the D&D monsterbook.
IIRC there is a plastic gnoll kit for the Frostgrave. The book itself kind of reminds me of Rogue Trader, which isn’t weird when you consider that it is by Rick Priestley. That also had that ‘DIY fiction’ kind of feel to it when it started. The lists themselves also remind me of the early Warhammer fantasy army book.
I hope Warlord do follow up on the rules with a scenario/campaign booklet or something to give it a bit more content.
February 19, 2019 at 10:39 am #1351036I had 2nd edition WFB and that was similar too. Thing is I think GW remains the market leader due to the sheer depth and scale to the background.
If I play a different game I don’t think about what tribes etc your trolls are from for example, whereas in 40k it can be quite important.
I think these are the steps the current understudy games will need to break through to hit the higher levels.
It’s unusual to find books for other games IPs but Warhammer ones are everywhere.
February 19, 2019 at 3:28 pm #1351225Yes yes skaven I have been working on. No no post pictures because my farsqueeker takes to high resolution for that hamsters that power this forum yes yes. SQUEEK
February 19, 2019 at 6:38 pm #1351316Generic systems can work for historicals, because you don’t need to write the fluff and the rules themselves are the one thing that differentiates systems from each other.
In fictional worlds it is the background (and the miniatures) that sell the game.
Too often authors of such settings forget the amount of skill required to make a fictional language so you get weird names that are tricky to pronounce and even harder to remember because they thought they could copy Tolkien.//
A certain underwater boat arrived … *ping* *ping*

It is kind of weird seeing a Skaven army that is just a bunch of big monsters instead of a literal swarm of rats.
IMHO they make for an interesting variant of a Nurgle army in 40k with those biomechanical monsters.
February 19, 2019 at 8:57 pm #1351402@limburger yes. In Warren’s own words. They are from Carry on Empire
February 19, 2019 at 9:53 pm #1351433I did more stuff!
February 19, 2019 at 10:35 pm #1351458Hey guys been busy today resting and chilling out before bed before working a night. I will reply shortly 😉
February 19, 2019 at 11:26 pm #1351466Uboat looked smaller than what I was expecting.
Lots of empty space, but I suspect a lot will be used once the boat itself is assembled.I think the game could have done with cheat sheets for every role, because everyone has a different set of tasks to do.
The rulebook explains them all, but it doesn’t work as a reference when everyone needs to know about their own area of expertise.Need to download the app, which is technically ‘early access’ according to the latest update.
sleep now … plan my Gitz later.
February 21, 2019 at 8:46 pm #1352311Well that’s ironically something of a relief – Mantics’ Terrain Crate 2 has just gone live and there’s not actually anything outside of the market stall that I’d be looking at picking up, so will probably just wait for retail and procure then. I tell you what though, if I played TWD or similar I’d be all over this – without any stretch goals included you could fill a 6×4 full of buildings with furniture and scenery elements from the boxes as they stand. Still, now means I can keep my powder dry as it were and see if the Shieldwolf Goblin KS id going to fund…
Apologies haven’t been on much this week, been pretty much smashing out chaos warriors.
@limburger the Uboat game looked like great (read – stressful and chaotic but awesome) fun on the let’s play.
@sundancer nice haul! Wow that is a big terrain piece – I would ask how you store it but I guess it can sort of act as storage for your SWL minis anyhow.
@tuffyears great rats! The new Skaven models look like a heap of fun to paint. Yours have turned out really well 🙂
