Forged In Battle’s 15mm Dark Age Armies Planned Out
February 1, 2018 by brennon
West Wind's Forged In Battle goes to Kickstarter in February with their Dark Age Armies. Well, we've seen a few more of their miniatures and also the plan for the various armies they have in development.
The miniatures are looking pretty awesome, even from this simple preview here. However, as we were talking about armies, it looks like West Wind aren't just stopping at the standard fare...
There's certainly no end to what they can bring to the tabletop here and this might provide you with a nice 15mm alternative to what you're used to playing. You could very easily play some MUCH bigger battles just with this small shift in scale.
What army is appealing to you?

I it will be interesting what they decide are the differences are between Late Roman and Arthurian
cataphracts maybe? can’t think of much else that couldn’t go either way
I was thinking that myself
on the plus side I can add to my 15mm saga plan, and @dignity can even get his own faction Justinian Byzzies, he’ll love that, an army of winkyless baldies
only kidding son…or am I 😉
I would expect the late Romans to have more cavalry and overall better equipment
yea but that’s the thing, you won’t actually see the quality of the equipment. Aesthetically I can’t imagine there will be much of a difference and you could just buy more packs of cav to field a more late roman force.
But this makes me think that as they’re giving it as a separate release there will be differences to the sculpts, just not sure what that would be.
You might see some more leather armour and more variety of kit for the Arthurian figures and a more regimented look for the LR
Forgot to add. Like most of western dark ages of the time I imagine the ranges will be interchangeable
yea I can see that, and mixing and matching is half the fun.
The Kickstarter launches on Saturday, 3 February at 12:00 GMT
Those are really good.
I wonder if Mythic Battles: Joan of Arc will help give a boost to 15mm gaming in general? Either by people buying other figures to use in JoA or using JoA figures in other games.
I think it will introduce 15mm to a whole bunch of new people. JoA is really focusing on the benefits of the smaller scale. That is you can fit more on the table.
That said, for historical gaming 15mm is well established. Good to see more quality figures at this scale from Forged in Battle
This is from the sculptor
I ( Andy Cooper) designed the 28mm Arthurian range for west Wind so i am fairly familiar with the equipment etc. I like to mix up lots of Late Roman gear for the Arthurian’s, helmets and armour plus stir in a little Celtic influence. We will be adding some better equipped warriors to the early Saxons. Looking at adding some better equipped warriors to the Picts plus some armoured cavalry so I will also take a look at the Scots/Irish.
