Weekender: FoW Vietnam & New Raging Heroes’ Kickstarter!
April 4, 2015 by warzan
We dive into this Easter Weekender by checking out the thoroughly unthematic look at World War II! As well as checking out an awesome Autoblinda Fabio, we have a look at Oriskany's World War 2.5 package that came in the mail.
We then move forward in time and check out the Brown Water Navy supplement for Flames of War which delves into the river based warfare of Vietnam.
Empress Miniatures have also been over to show off some of their miniatures and we filmed some cool unboxings with them which you'll be able to check out soon. The Raging Heroes Kickstarter is also powering on with some insane looking armies to pick up for Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
You can check out the Q&A we did with Raging Heroes Art Director Benoît Guerville HERE.
Also make sure you keep an ear to the ground to see if you won the AdeptiCon Relic Knights prizes, the Batman Rulebooks AND the announcement that the Battlezone Challenge winner will be chosen soon!
Yes, we did remember!
Happy Saturday!
Sam may be interested in the fact that the armament sales for the USA, alone, for 2010, was $21.4 billion and in 2011, $66.3 billion, more than tripled. Does this give any indication of the global political landscape becoming ‘homogenised’? There may not be a global war at the moment, but there are currently more people today directly affected by conflicts throughout the world, than at any other time in history! Sobering?
Thanks for the correction that is chilling.
Yeah Weekend!!!! Thanks guys!
Even better…..bank holiday weekender!
Sam has probably not seen Platoon because he is still a young chap?
Great show as always!! I am a girl and I want the bad ass girl box set 😀
I loved the Stryker model. My brother was with the 520th Stryker Brigade and did two tours in Iraq. They were called “The Ghost Machine” because they were quick, quiet and fast.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s XLBS
I <3 Empress' Spanish Civil War range. One of the few things that would drag me into the 20th century.
They do make some cool minis
Absolutely. My SCW project is one of a multitude at the pipedream stage, but it’s one of the most likely to progress to the “spend money and time” stage.
Have you seen the new SCW Painting War magazine that’s coming? Might help the old inspiration a bit!
I have not.
Toughest Girls in the Galaxy is so cool, and badass.
Loved ‘nam week are we going to get more? I went black horse for ‘nam.
Raging Heroes look good again, I just spent my money on WWX unfortunately.
Raging Heroes still looks like it says Boginshebolt to me.
Feels like Sunday already!
Another bumper episode!
Before I carry on watching…
Those ads are really freaking annoying. I don’t care how much time/passion/whatever went into them. Please just stop.
Just finished watching. The rest of the show was brilliant. Love the tanks. And really regret not taking part in the original Raging Hero KS.
Toughest Girls of the Galaxy – great looking minis.
Empress mimiatures – very nice!
Stryker MGS – lots of YouTube footage – go look for yourself
Only thing John got incorrect is it uses the 105mm gun rather than 120mm.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1128_Mobile_Gun_System
Drat! It’s the US version of the L7! *facepalm* Good call!
And the MGS can fire a full broadside without tipping over. This does give the vehicle a good rocking but it’s not a problem except for target reacquisition. Plenty of YouTube videos of it firing in Iraq to see this for yourself.
There was certainly some controversy about this in the early days – allegedly doctored images of the prototype being used in the promotional material (the un-doctored images surfacing later with steel stabilizer in place).
Having said all that, an online search suggests that there seems to have been a significant but vocal minority who wanted the whole Stryker programme dropped. The systems early years seemed to be plagued by some pretty dodgy propaganda from all sides!
Here is a good look,
http://youtu.be/fBHnNSURLEA
And here is a good one of it firing on the move over uneven terrain. Forward to about 2mins in. Note that modern gun stabilization is quite amazing.

And one last broadside,

Damn… listening to John talking about the Stryker and Warrior was painful… Warrior is an IFV not APC (important difference – APCs are supposed to deliver infantry and stay back, IFVs to go with the infantry and support it in combat). Stryker MGS has a variant of 105mm cannon from M60, not 120mm from M1A1… Maybe they are not big mistakes for a gamer, but isn’t he supposed to be the resident tank expert? 😉
I would in John’s defence say I assumed he was a WW2 (immediate post ww2) tank expert… and is the Stryker a tank??
“Just a couple of quick clarifications; the Warrior is an IFV rather than an APC as it supports the infantry in combat, and the Stryker MGS has a 105mm cannon from the M60 rather than the 120mm from the M1A1.”
It’s not a urinating contest. We are allowed to be helpful and informative.
Awesome show guys – and a huge surprise!
I’ll take full responsibility for any factual errors on John’s behalf! Let’s put it down to lots of travel and not enough coffee 🙂
If I discovered one thing on my visit, it’s that John has a damn fine broad knowledge of military vehicles … to the point he can even fix the things.
I blame the modern armour designers. Too many guns, too many variants, too many classifications! NATO sort yourselves out man!
Yes the IFV/APC argument is a common one. Because both class-types fit the vehicles. I don’t think it’s wrong to class them as either or both. Both types carry infantry, and to an extent, both can stay and provide cover. Heck, even FV432 and M113 carried machine guns and were modified in the field to suit certain situations.
This probably isn’t “correct” or “official,” but I usually call WHEELED vehicles “infantry carriers” and TRACKED vehicles “APCs”.
Of course, that doesn’t always work. The US M2 Bradley is officially an APC, while the M3 variant was an “IFV.” Both, of course, are tracked. 😀
You my friend should have 1 million karma for your contribution to BoW 🙂
Thanks, @manpug ! 😀
And to make things just that little bit more ridonculius I believe technically the Stryker is classed as an ICV in the U.S. ( Infantry CarriervVehicle).
I can start to sympathise with folk that just call everything with a gun a tank! 🙂
Right, @keitha – or people who just say “AFV” and be done with it. 😀
Happy Saturday guys. Another great show and loving the new Hub adverts.
toughest girls of the galaxy are cool but did anyone notice the similarity to warzan and harry???happy sitting down with a silly grin all over his face
Yes the smiles are similar, but I think any male gamer surrounded by those babes would have the same silly grin on their faces.
Oh yes! I skipped TGG kickstarter but I will definately add more raging heroes miniatures to my existing collection.
Great show guys! I would have liked to see the Jailbirds next to the APC with a tankgun on it. Can imagine those in a post-apocalyptic setting with zombies running around them.
Absolutely fabulous!
Glad to see Empress getting the word out about their stuff – in addition to their USMC I picked up from the KS that was fulfilled last year I have a US Army Stryker rifle platoon that just needs one more Stryker and an MGS (company level asset) to round them out which I will hopefully collect from then at Salute. The only problem is, I wanted to paint them up as a National Guard unit so that they can fight some zombies or aliens on their home turf. The only problem is my need to root things in reality… Read more »
Urgh, wish I could edit to fix the repetition..
It would be nice to be able to edit posts. I know you can in the forums, but for some reason you can’t in the articles.
need holly on the screen behind you interacting with the show ……would be awesome guys
nice weekender 🙂 Raging heroes are making a sci-fi war game. But havent given out much detail yet. Only that they are working on it.
Happy saturday!
Good show guys, really enjoyed it.
I checked out the Raging Heroes Kickstarter, if I wasn’t a poor student, I would be rolling in those miniatures.
I really want to use some of the mini’s from the first kickstarter as HVT’s for Infinity!
The Toughest Girls are cool 🙂
