VLOG: Table Layouts, No Weekenders & Prize To Be Won!
March 2, 2017 by warzan
Join us for the final snippet of VLOG for this week in the run up to the Boot Camp as we give you a heads up on what's been going on.
Table Layouts & Weekender Woes
We've been getting the table layouts just right across the last day or so and we think they've come out nicely. Because of the hiccup on that it also meant we just don't have time to film a Weekender or Weekender XLBS. Sorry folks!
Goodies To Win!
Away from that we've also got some awesome goodies up for grabs. Across the three days you'll be able to win Flames Of War 4th Edition Starter Bundles. So, comment on the posts and live blogs themselves and we'll be picking winners next week.
Stay tuned for a weekend of awesome...
The tables are looking great, good job guys. Looking forward to the live blogs and how the campaign progresses across the map. Also, I saw a few planes on the tables, will they be getting a run out in your games?
Thanks @m30wm1x – I just put down a few desert-themed plans I had with me. When I arrived early, I was asked to lay down some of the miniatures I brought with me to help with the visual impact of the tables, and also to maybe help get the mood going for when the rest of the bootcamp show up and start to build their armies!
Seriously, though … maybe on “free gaming” section on Sunday afternoon?
Looking good, and knowing you – you came in with 2 full armies
That ‘banquet hall’ table is looking epic! It will be a good hobby weekend.
That long table looks fabulous – that would make for an epic end to end battle with artillery duels and airstrikes.
Tables look good. You got a train going down the track?
Those tables look amazing and i’m sure all those bootcampers will have tons and tons of fun! I’m looking forward to see the campaign unfold! And i’m looking forward to the coverage of the bootcamp!
Thanks, @querion . I am envisioning six “campaign turns” or “campaign cycles,” whatever you want to call them.
“Turns:”
1) First El Alamein (July 1942)
2-3) Alam Halfa Ridge (August-September)
4-6) Second El Alamein (the main event – October-November 1942)
Of course it depends on how many players choose to participate (this whole campaign angle is of course totally optional for the boot camp) and how well it goes. We’re keeping it light and simple, so we’re hoping for the best! 😀
That continuous table looks freaking epic, and really sells me on 15mm in a way most other tables could not – realistic distances between towns is just.. pleasing in a way I can’t really describe. The campaign map also looks great – good job, @oriskany – and I’m really digging the use of the icons for the different units. It really emphasises the different scales of the conflict!
I almost expect to see a small 4×4 desert table off to the side for Bolt Action to resolve a particularly important infantry battle..
The symbols and nomenclature on these units is NATO standard, so it actually isn’t 100% historically accurate. But the German unit marking system at the time is an absolute nightmare, and the British don’t seem to have one standardized.
So we’ll use these. They’re simple, clear, and many people at the boot camp (and on this thread) already know them. So we’ll probably have a super-quick “military academy” segment tomorrow where we explain these.
also if you where using the “correct” historical symbols which side would you use ?
A campaign map is a gaming board not a historical simulator
Great looking tables, you guys always pull it out under pressure.
Can’t wait to see some minis on there!
That table looks brilliant!
The tables are fantastic! But I haz a sad for no weekender. On the bright side, no one blew up!
a really great prize can’t wait to see the coverage. Also great setup on the terrain, guys glad everyone seems to be okay.
Time to take my DAK army out of storage.
Well it was a lot of effort and a lot of man power but, those tables are beautiful. Serious congratulations and I hope the boot camp is lots of fun for all concerned
Ding Dong
@oriskany looks even sexier on a camera, rather than on a camera on a camera.
anyone who can turn northern Ireland into north Africa is a bloody magician.
good luck chaps, brits for the win.
😀
Will there be any ‘Weekenders’ next week? (Fingers crossed)
The tables are brilliant. Keep up the good work.
great looking tables guys love the tracks @Oriskany needs commanders stick for pointing?
I have one ready. 😀
well every good commander should.
Those little bits of scrub make those tables! No tactical value, no cover, just make-it-look-nice. Great work fellas!
wait, where are these live blogs? what do i comment on?
I remember flames of war 2nd addition, looks like all of my germans are gonna need a sandy makeover 🙂
I’ll miss the XLBS, but to me, a bootcamp weekend is just as good. There’s still that feeling of ‘just us folks hanging out and enjoying the hobby’. Weekenders, Vlogs, and Bootcamps are the content that makes me feel like an insider 😉
So great to se Oriskany at this setting. We are all being introduced to the joys of historical battles, and history, without the elitism I have sometimes found from historygamers.
Thanks very much, @mordiano – Yeah, it’s tough. Sometimes historical games can be just a smidge “stuffy” when it comes to other games, because we can get the idea that games are “real.” Except they’re not, really. 😀 Then we sometimes wonder why there aren’t more historical gamers. I think many of us can agree that the narrative context and “story” behind a game can really add a whole new dimension to its enjoyment. Well, historical games, by definition, have the biggest story of all to draw from. I think historical players should try selling that angle, that feeling of… Read more »
Great terrain. Looking foward to seeing a tutorial on those “rocks”.
Looks great, those who will be attending will have a great time. Too bad I have to work this weekend. Will not be able to watch the videos until Monday
The amount of effort that’s gone in to this, and the excitement, really makes me want to try out a boot camp one or hobby weekend one day. Great looking stuff all around.
Nice job guys, those tables look awesome.
So bootcamp weekend has arrived that soon came around, nice touch with the campaign map. Our gaming group are currently running a firestorm campaign using 3Rd edition flames set around Operation Bagration, we’re nearly at the end of turn one so will be great to see how the bootcamp battles play out on your map over the weekend..
Well have a great bootcamp everyone be watching along 🙂
After managing to avoid 15mm for this long I found myself playing a friendly tourney day of team yankee, being given a copy of v3 rulebook to trade in, making some 15mm terrain buildings and now this!!
