These mammoth sets each come with a huge number of vehicles, infantry, rule books, and unit cards, giving you everything you need to jump straight into the Late War.
If you want to see the starter forces in action be sure to check out our recent Flames Of War boot camp where we hosted building, painting, and playing of these new sets.
Are the Americans your army of choice?
soooo many tanks…. and no @johnlyons to see…. did he die?! XD
the student has become the master ? 😉
At least it looks like he doesn’t need help with the sprues.
I do miss the tank rambling …
So good I bought 2 boxes 🙂
This is the set I bought for the up coming Slow Grow League.
I also picked up the Fortress Europe book and card set for my Americans.
Well good to know the 76mm is an upgrade sprue (as I only would want a single 76mm in the tank troop along with 4 75mm), you do seem to get an abundance of 30 cals and bazookas with the infantry sprues however). VERY tempting, and as late war the allies were basically using a lot of self propelled artillery and A/T guns (the towed versions seem to get phased out late war as the allies were fighting an “attacking” war (with no time to move up and dig in the towed guns). But for the Germans Battlefront REALLY need… Read more »
76mms are a separate unit to 75mms from what I’ve read so far
In v3 they called the 76mm Sherman, fireflies. in v4 just 76mm.
Are you sure ?
IIRC in v3 the British called them Fireflies and the Americans had boring name for them.
Given that this is an American starter set it is logical that they’re using the American names.
good point. USA vs UK. Thanks.
Strange, as far as I know the US had requested the 17 Pdr (as found in the British Firefly) for testing at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds (that’s Aberdeen in the USA). However it was rejected for use as the US Army found the cramped turret absolutely unworkable and continued on with the 76mm.
So as far as I know, no 17 Pdrs ever saw service in the US army (the 3″ gun found on the M10 wasn’t far off in performance), dunno why BF decided to call the 76mm tanks the Firefly (sounds like dodgy research to me).
don’t look at me … my history is limited to whatever wargames tell me. 😀
The v3 ‘open fire’ starter set had British Shermans and American paratroopers as infantry for support.
Open Fire was based around Market Garden, not D-Day as we now have with Hit the Beach
Really looking forward to get a new FoW collection going. Problem is Im not sure what army to get… so one of each wont go a miss. 😛 Superb kits as ever.
lol … welcome to my world 😀
If you like tanks then go Soviet and bring a horde of T34’s and support (plus you get to field Stalin’s Organs)
Germans are cool if you like painting camouflage.
You may want to buy the new Colours of War book, because it’s got painting guides and info on decals for each of the big four nations.
I started a couple of small armies from the last version of FoW so have a few minis still knocking around somewhere. I have ordered the Hit the Beaches set and the Colours of War book from the OTT store and hopefully getting them delivered tomorrow. ( 😀 )
I havent played FoW for a while now so will be nice to get back into it. Liking the look of the stat cards and looking forward to the army building fun.
Nice box set, will have to get one.
ooh priest’s to get a full force on the move.
This looks like a pretty well balanced starter set!
my niece who pinched the Americans when Hit the Beach arrived has just asked for this for either her birthday or Xmas lol… she wants more tanks….and told me I’m not allowed Tigers lol….
I have ordered Panthers instead…
“I have ordered Panthers instead…” BOOOOOOOOO
(Should have bought some Stugs instead :P)
“not allowed Tigers” GOOD GIRL 😀
So I understand this is a pile of goodness. Are the Army boxes the way to go if you don’t have any Flames of War?
All of these FOW starters have looked superb.
Some classic tanks, but I think I prefer the germans or russians
This is a cracking set, excellent value for money and well worth picking up.
