New US Stripes Releases Arrive For Battlefront’s Team Yankee
December 11, 2017 by brennon
A range of new releases have popped up this week from Battlefront for the world of Team Yankee and we explore the war that never was again. This all comes on the heels of the new Stripes book which introduces additional elements and rules for your US forces in World War III.
Inside the book, you'll find it covers the US forces in Germany in August 1985, more specifically the 1st Armored Division, 82nd Airborne Division, and the 2nd Marine Division. If you're a big fan of the US in your games of Team Yankee then this is the natural next step for you to consider.
Additional Armour
When it comes to new model sets you'll now be able to get your hands on sets like the Abrams Tank Platoon which put paid to pretty much everything you come up against.
With a nice look and style to them, the Abrams is a tank that is cemented in popular culture and one of the most defining images of the tank I would reckon on the tabletop.
Firing in from the edges of your battlefields you'll also find the M48 Chaparral SAM Platoon quite useful one would assume.
SAM Platoons once again feel synonymous with the period and the 80's. A lot of people will remember seeing these iconic vehicles on the TV. It's good to see that Battlefront is adding a lot of these vehicles into the mix now, in plastic, of course, to help build up the range.
Another support vehicle comes in the shape of the M247 Sergeant York AA Platoon. Watching the skies is going to be important with the likes of the HIND hovering around for the Soviets.
With the additional rules and options available in Stripes the new models will no doubt find a home amongst your collection. While I do like the look of the Abrams tanks I think the SAM Platoon is actually my favourite of these new releases simply because of the imagery they conjure up for the battlefields of World War III.
Air Support
You will also find that you'll get some air support too with a new AV-8 Harrier Attack Flight thrown into the mix.
Known as the jump jet, these planes could take off vertically making them a key resource to have in play as they could quickly mobilise and take off some pretty much anywhere too. They also look really cool, don't they?
What do you think of the new Stripes releases?

Those are very nice.
I went to the airshow at RAF Finningley (now Doncaster-Sheffield Airport, much less exciting) and saw a Sea Harrier doing VTOL, flying backwards even. It’s a sight that’s stayed with me for 35 years!
nice lots of anti air cover.
Just got hold of the new book and a few HMMWVs to add to my planned infantry US force. Can’t wait to take a little time tomorrow to see what i really have for taking on those commies. 🙂
Interesting that the Sergeant York is included seeing as it was something of a failure (mostly due to the choice of chassis). The Chaparral wasn’t much better with antiquated missiles and the Vulcan had a limited engagement range with poor nightime capability. Still, nice models and these will be my go to when Battlegroup Northag is released!
There’s a link on Battlefront’s page that contains a firsthand account of a pilot who got killed by the Sgt. York every single time he faced it in trials, with the exception of a single time he was able to exploit a known and slated to be corrected problem with under-powered hydraulics on the turret gun elevators.
It’s not hard to imagine that if things had gone the way the Team Yankee background predicts instead of the way they went historically the development of the DIVAD project would have been prioritized differently.
Also, except for the Abrams, all of the vehicles in the article are metal/resin.
M60 Patton, Hmmvw, and Harriers . . . I can’t wait to build my USMC 1991 Desert Storm force. At least I’ll finally have a chance to use my T-72s “correctly.” 🙂
Can’t say I really agree with the Sgt York, spilled enough ink on this in another thread. Much more interested in the Chaparral, though. 😀
Amen Brother
and by ‘correctly’ you mean it getting blown to bits by American hardware ? 😉
“correctly” as in “historically accurate” – with the Iraqi Republican Guard and not the GSFG in East Germany 😀 (T-64s and T-80s for that).
But yeah, getting cored by M1A1 abrams or AH-64 Apaches works too. 😀
Stripes is a good release. Some great looking models and some interesting looking force lists. I’ve bought the book but won’t be building a US force, too busy with my Soviets and Brits.
@oriskany, next time your this side of the pond we should throw down some TY. Got a T-64 main gun with your name on it buddy 🙂
I heard that, @benc . I have to come up with a reason to head over there, and soon-ish, boot camp or no boot camp.
Did the US use Harriers? I didn’t realise they were bought or used by anyone but the British.
Book ordered, 2 battle groups ordered…. waiting for January to get them sweet sweet LAV, Harriers and Plastic Huey.
Thanks God I got some days to take in order to chain myself to my desk and PAINT!
Could have used that plastic Huey two weeks ago. 😀 I need some for another project, and had to resort to two Revell model kits. Not bad, but 1:100 model kits are not “miniatures.” Way too detailed, too many parts, and kind of fragile for actual game play / table top use.
When your LAVs and harriers arrive, please tell me how they look! I’m dead serious about building a US Marine Corps 1991 Desert Storm force.
Not unlike the Hind rotors from BF. 🙂
So it looks like the “Leathernecks” box is going for $55 US and the HMMWV box is going for $45, this gives you 3 M60 tanks for $10. If you are going heavy USMC then you can really build up some tanks for below the going rate. Don’t known if you would want or need 18 HMMWV so that you could get to a 9 M60 platoon. Points isn’t the only thing that decides what is on the table.
ALso and interesting little upgrade in the Leathernecks box set, the mini rule book is in a zip top bag and mine seems to have arrived in pretty good shape. This is a big upgrade from the box sets from before that had the book just thrown in to get banged all up in transport.
Good news on this Leathernecks and HMMVW set. I might have to buy myself a Christmas present this year . . .
After reading Stripes and trying to figure out what is the best use for the Hummers I came upon and idea. Have no idea if this will be cost effective or if it is just a hobby moment, I magnetized the gun turrets. They seem to be holding pretty well and with the magnets I used there will only be a little bit of rounded magnet sticking out. I will try and get some pictures up on the WAYPN forum in the next couple of days. Looking to be able to change our TOW for other options and vice versa.
