The Soviets Get An Update In Team Yankee With Red Thunder
July 20, 2017 by brennon
The new Red Thunder supplement for Team Yankee should be making its way to stores right now for those lovers of Team Yankee. It takes the existing rules and statistics for the Soviets in World War III and gives them a boost.
As well as bringing together updates for all of your old models the book also brings in plenty of new vehicles and options for you to explore...
"There is more choice. More tanks options with the introductions of the T-64, more anti-tank options with the Storm and Spandrel anti-tank missile carriers, more anti-aircraft with the SA-8 Gecko and SA-9 Gaskin SAM vehicles, more recon options with the addition of the BRDM-2 scout car, and more motor rifle options with the introduction of the BTR-60 armoured personnel carrier.
These add more Formations to choose from with the addition of the T-64 Tank Battalion and BTR-60 Motor Rifle Battalion."
You can find out more about what's new and interesting in the Red Thunder book by checking out the link HERE which goes into a lot more detail about the historical aspect of this and the vehicles you'll be able to choose from.
Army Deals
With the new book comes new army deals and you can pick up options for Potecknov's Bears...
...and Yuri's Wolves.
Obviously, these are the older boxes with a few new bits and bobs thrown in but they give you a good starting point for you to begin growing a Soviet force in Team Yankee.
Will you be picking up Red Thunder?

T-64s! Now . . . we are talking. 😀 I’ve talked to people who have already played with these and they actually have slightly better stats than the T-72, which is exactly the way it should be.
These T-64s could probably be kit-bashed into early T-80s (Concept 219v2, T-80R and V variants, and finally the “roll out” of the T-80A).
Then we’re ready to play some Team Yankee! 😀
Hurray!
Well I just did get my copy of red Thunder today, plus two of each boxes and a spare T72 😉
The worse part is when I saw that you can’t mix T72s company and T64 companies I went “Oh Crap now I got to order 10 more T64 oh well…. more tank goodness!”
Hey there Wolfch, quick question!
Are there formations there that include the new stuff alongside t72s, or is it all for t64s?
Really interested to compare the original Soviet, Volksarmee, and Red Thunder and see what will be the most fun to play. May not be the best setup but hopefully I can find a fun setup. I have an idea for army idea just need to make sure it will work.
@pacific , Yes, the new vehicles can be used to flesh out a T-72 Bn and some of the new vehicles, such as the Storm and SA-8 are in the Divisional support. The T-64 itself is a great kit to make. I’ve only had a single game using the T-64 stats and they earned their points in a game against a Leo2 heavy force. The T-64 is more cost in points which makes the Soviet player make some hard choices as to go full on MBT or cut those back to allow more support options. My current plan is to… Read more »
Thanks man!
Some great plastics though I am surprised that BF adhering to resin/metal hybrids on some vehicles, especially when all plastic offerings are available in the same scale from at least 1 other manufacturer.
@pacific sorry just saw your comment
Well I got hold of a copy of Red Thunder today, that special someone cared enough to stop and pick me one up. 🙂 Comparing to Volks Armee I see the Russian Soviets getting stronger with the T-64 and the fluff says the East Germans had them also, so can we take them with the same drop in power that the T-72m has for the East Germans? Or did I misunderstand the fluff as Russian units based in East Germany? Either way it will be an interesting to see how they play, the longer reach at the more expensive points… Read more »
