Hobby VLOG: Oil War Part Five
March 12, 2019 by johnlyons
John gives us an update on how his Oil War Project is going and what weathering details he's been thinking about.
Not only are there more Leopold's to salivate over, but we get to see most of the Iraqi force and John's weathering plans. Taking 1988s film The Beast of War on the Soviet-Afghanistani war as inspiration, John looks at how tanks move through dusty, desert landscapes for applying a realistic weathering layer to them tank bois.
Imagine for one glorious second that instead of horses at the Cheltenham Festival...that it was tanks: what tank would John be a jockey of?

WEAK STOMACH?!?! I shall watch this film immediately!!
Seriously though, those tanks are coming along nicely. I wondered at first whether it may be a little too light when seeing it in the air-brush pot however seeing the effect it gave on the minis you’d tested it on it looks spot on. Combined with the chipping, rust and metallic touch ups on the treads i think its a winner. 🙂
This is a fantastic film. the most memorable quote
out of gas…become a pillbox
out of ammo….become a bunker
out of time…..become a hero
I’ve given up hope that the colour scheme for the Soviets will ever be the right colour for this alternate timeline……. ?
have you been tidying up the hobby lab… I don’t like it 🙂
Still no sign of pink… hmm….
The tank’s are all looking great John on the subject of the leopard’s iv seen a video on YouTube an their very common now in other country’s as the second hand an inferior (cheap) versions join the market’s
Hmn John as tank Jockey at Cheletenham WW2 not his favourite tank but one of Fastest would probably be Cromwell specially the one without the mild steel rather than Armour plating. Modern at a guess Leopard 1.
Knowing The Tank-God from our games and unboxings, I would say that there can be really only ONE contender for the role of Mr Lyons chariot;
The T54/55!!
