Heavy Soviet Armour Rolls Into Berlin For Flames Of War
September 19, 2015 by brennon
Two new plastic sets have been added to the range of Soviet forces available as they storm into Berlin for Flames Of War at the tail end of World War II. With that in mind check out both the IS-2 Heavy Tank Company and Heavy Assault Gun Company...
Blasting Through Armour
Making a mockery of most armour towards the end of the war the Soviet's IS-2 Heavy Tank was able to smash apart even Tiger tanks on the battlefield. Even gun emplacements were shivering at the prospect of having to face these armour behemoths...
This tank also sported a machine gun in the back of the tanks turret. While this can't 'fire' in game it acts as a defensive weapon stopping troops from clambering around on the back of the tank and keeping the crew that little bit safer.
Heavy Guns
Matching the IS-2 we also have a look at the ISU-152 assault guns which were basically used as siege weapons. Buildings, bunkers, outposts and more were ground under-track by these vehicles.
These vehicles would normally be found on the flanks of an attacking force dealing with enemy Panzers and anti-tank guns. They were perfect at supporting infantry and were a pain to deal with for the German defenders.
What do you think of these new options?

I really wish that the IS-2s, at least the Hero ones, did not suffer from the -1 to hit when moving at ROF 1. It massively reduced their effectiveness. Their main role is actually to assault infantry, although, as slow tanks, this can take a while. While lumbering up to do this their main gun tends to miss so is often useless. Sadly, for me at least, this makes them far too expensive and option. SU-100s are great as an anti-tank option (benefiting greatly from Cat Killer). There are other, cheaper options if you want a breakthrough gun or two… Read more »
Two of my favourite tanks! Those are getting added to the Battlegroup Kursk collection.
Easy – play ‘Battlegroup’!
Those are very good.
I just looked up who designed this beast, just curious, and you have to love communists. Designed by: Design Bureau of Factory No. 100!
And PSC have just slashed the price on their 15mm IS2…
…and I get my pocket money on monday!
I hope the crew doesn’t look like Gumby, as some have in the past.
like.
Give me the T35 ; )
