Flames Of War Team Yankee Getting Unit Cards
September 21, 2015 by brennon
Breakthrough Assault have another look at what's on the horizon for Team Yankee by Battlefront. This time they have great news for those fed up of flicking through rulebooks as Team Yankee will support Unit Cards...
The cards are going to include all of the statistics on the front as well as some easily identifiable photography so you can pick out what's what on the battlefield. On the reverse will also be the special rules for each unit.
This is very much playing into the idea of Team Yankee being a more accessible game for historical wargamers to get into. Unit Cards are always a good thing, no matter what the game, especially if they come with a lot of options like these tanks do for example.
I think this is a great step in the right direction from Battlefront.
Do you like using Unit Cards?
"Unit Cards are always a good thing, no matter what the game..."
This is getting very interesting.
I must admit I like the ‘Dust’ style unit cards. I think they’ll make it very quick and easy for people to get playing.
As a Soviet player I’m very curious to see how the points cost of the T-72 compares to the Abrams. ROF 2 vs ROF 1 is a significant advantage… unless they are half the cost of course :D.
Unit cards are better than a good idea to some. For example Victoria has dyslexia and trawling through a book which has many lines on the same page a long list of numbers is a none starter for 6. So yes cards all the way Victoria can pick it up and know she is indeed looking at the right stats.
Anything that means you don’t have to trawl through rule books every two minutes is brilliant! When I discovered ‘Army Builder’ it was better than xmas.
I wonder what the “brutal” special rule is for the t-72
One of the main reasons I dont like FoW is their mass of special rules. The T72 has a big gun it should be enough
That was what put me off playing FoW – had a few games with someone who was really into it and most of the time was spent looking for stuff.
The bigger the departure from FoW the better.
I keep telling people to try Battlegroup – after two little games I can play without the rulebook and yet all the ‘detail’ is still there.
nice.
Definitely one to keep an eye. Looks so promising.
This is getting better with every update!
I’m really looking forward to this 😎
General consensus on FoW forum’s is that brutal rule is similar to the breakthru guns rule which basically means no infantry saves…although that’s all hypothetical so don’t quote me on that……
When is it coming out???
Around November is the expected release date, although battlefront are not known for their speed at delivering products to market so that could well slip.
i suspect they’ll try to get it out for november for a xmas sales boost ,do we think its a starter box with both armies or more like the vietnam book with boxed units
I think it will be a book and boxes, the book is definitely confirmed was on Breakthrough assault last week. 120pgs Team Yankee is a standalone game that will be familiar to existing players but with enough difference that existing players should treat it as a new game. I would then say there is likely to be full plastic army boxes with your core stuff to get you going that’s my guess anyways
I hope it is going to be like the WW1 army boxes..
One playable army you can then add on to.
Well that is really interesting.
I’ve been getting hyper for “Team Yankee” since the boys first covered it on the weekender! Cold War gone hot is very intreging. I think the unit cards modernize FoW to the point of bringing FoW into the age of “fluid playing” games. It will be interesting to see what next will be modernized, if anything. I’m currently building a USA and Soviet force with 15mm models that are already on the market. Abrams, M113’s, A10s, M109s, T-72s, BMPs, , Hinds, and the Soviet mobile artillery (does anyone know the unit most likely for this roll on the Soviet side… Read more »
I believe Team Yankee is set around 1985 time wise
Sorry correction the novel is based in 1987 that Team Yankee is set in
I have discovered that the Soviet self propelled artillery of the 80’s most likely to face NATO in a WWIII scenario would have been the “2S3 Akatsiya ” 152mm Howitzer.
