Flames of War FTW: How To Use Spearhead & Infiltrate Rules!
January 16, 2015 by warzan
Welcome back to another installment of Flames of War For The Win! This time Dave & Warren are having a look at the Spearhead & Infiltrate Rules, two very sneaky and useful parts of the game.
Do you guys like this creeping approach or would you rather charge in there like Patton!?
Let us know how you use these rules on the tabletop below!
I am more about methodical tactics. Mind you if Jerry desires a good thrashing, I am willing to oblige an armada of fireflies on full throttle.
Really glad to see more fw ftw ! Would really like to see you and Dave playing a game or two including all the rules you have been exploring in this series. Fw ftw is still my favourite series you guys have done.
It’s really interesting to see all the intricacies of the rules. I’m surprised how well the game is designed, since even though there are rules that can have a huge impact on the battle, the rules themselves aren’t too complicated. I agree that it’d be nice to see more games of FoW (and Bolt Action) in the future.
Im really looking forward for you guys explaining more about this game, i just remembered how i played my first demo game on this and i had a blast i just remember my dad getting me a Firefly, a HQ platoon, and a Achilles tank destroyer, im really looking forward for this game, hope to get a army ready soon
FOW, is an interesting game to play and i will look foward for more game play video so i would be ok to start playing. With our group
Thanks forthe vid 🙂
Finally a new video to learn something new 🙂 Thx guys!
i do enjoy these vid dont play flames of war yet but its allways intresting to see the tacs as they sometimes can be brought over to over game systems
I really enjoy these videos especially the ‘Know Your Enemy’ sections. This series has been one of my favourites on BOW so far I think.
No creeping about, just CHARGE!!!
This series has actually made me want to start the game! shutout for ole Norn Iron
Dave is always so dapper (he is The Doctor).
I wonder what happens when 2 people end up fighting one another and they have the same list (Patton versus Patton)?
Table explodes.
Actually you first roll off to see who is the attacker, as you are both “always attacking” and both a tank company. The defender gets no spearhead move, as patton only gives you spearhead move if you are the attacker.
Than the table explodes, especially the side where the defender deployed.
There’s still a few things left out of the requirements for Spearhead moves/Infiltrate. Specifically; you can’t get too close to the enemy and a Spearhead move must end outside your deployment zone. Also, getting the first turn from a spotted Infiltrate works completely differently: you automatically give your opponent the first turn if any teasm ends its Infiltration move withing 16″/40cm of an enemy team and within its LoS. No skill tests involved. Even if nothing ends within that distance and LoS, you have a 1-in-6 chance of giving your opponent the first turn. All of this was pointed out… Read more »
I am just starting a Sovjet list and the infiltrate rule seems really handy. A friend of mine also uses Patton and I really hate it to fight against him.
Sadly you’ll never be able to use infiltrate against Patton. In order to be able to infiltrate you must be the attacking player in a mission with prepared positions (I think this is correct but don’t have the rulebook to hand to check). As Patton ‘always attacks’ you can never infiltrate, which is really annoying.
Every episode of FOW FTW is great… we want more 🙂
And as always: bowties are cool 🙂
Another great vid. Agree it be good to some more bat reps!
the video really helped out keep it up
Informative as always, always looking forward to Know Your Enemy.
I like also the reference to ‘Symphony of Destruction’, Megadeth fan 😉
Thanks for the video
These Flames of War Vids are excellent, please can we have some more.
What was the bit of scenery about a foot in front of Warren? I thought it looked remarkably like a flying saucer.
Naah warren wouldn’t do a thing like that at all he is history all the way … What UFO 😉
If Piper and Patton meet and they both have the always attack rule who goes first?
You roll off.
If two forces both have Always Attacks or Always Defends, they cancel each other out.
So if those forces are a different type of company (Fortified, Infantry, Mechanised or Tank) their types will decide which one is the attacker, as usual.
If both are the same type (which is the case with US Tank Companies with Patton vs Kampfgruppe Peiper), both players roll a die, re-rolling ties.
Whoever rolls highest has to be the attacker.
fow ftw FTW! 😀
nice vid. you 2 should start playing games and air them.
Great vid guys
I think Warren says it best.
A symphony of destruction.
