Flames Of War 4th Edition Desert Armies Detailed
December 23, 2016 by brennon
Battlefront has their sights set firmly on the desert as we look towards Flames Of War 4th Edition. With the release of the new version of the game next year they're creating new sourcebooks and new armies for you to collect.
First come the books for both the British forces and the German ones too with these new books detailing the armies that would have been fighting during the period of 1942-43.
This will be followed by a Battle Box focused on the battle for El Alamein. We haven't had a proper look inside that box yet but it should contain one mini-rulebook, one Panzer IV, one Panzer III, one Grant and two Crusaders.
The real cherry on the top of the cake, however, is that there will be two new armies for you to snap up with both Monty's Desert Rats...
...and Rommel's Afrika Korps.
Each set comes with a lovely set of plastic tanks for you to battle it out on the sands. I really like the idea of doing a proper sand dunes board, with real sand, although it would be a hell to clean up afterwards. It would look rather epic though.
There will be more to come to keep an eye out!

Those sets look rather nice, and the sand table wouldn’t be so bad as long as you brought a dust pan I think.
In their Christmas video message they also mentioned that the Americans and Italians would also follow later in the year.
Also mentioned was new Desert stuff for Tanks, so it looks like we are going to see some mid-war tank expansions and OP kits as well.
Any infantry coming?
New to the game and this has caught my interest.
Yeah, without nice new plastic infantry I have a hard time seeing this push for more Mid-War desert stuff succeeding. The metals are looking really dated at this point.
Heia Safari!
@brennon Here’s an older article on a guy who made a 6 by 27 foot sand table and a “prtable” one to take outside his club.

Now i just have to hope for a new season of Flames of War FTW to accompany this launch!
Those are some nice looking boxed sets and those books are also looking good.
nice.
