Let’s Play: Flames of War 4th Edition – Expanding Your Forces
October 18, 2017 by lancorz
Today in Flames of War 4th Edition, we have a special over the seas guest with us.
Community member @Oriskany has joined us for the Flames of War Bootcamp from over the Pond in this fearsome battle between himself and our own master and commander, Mr Lyons.
Will General John be able to hold his own against a veteran of the game or will Oriskany have John clutching at straws for a way out?

Who do you think will win this one?
The table/terrain layout forced a tank melee almost by default. The symmetrical layout is also a tad artificial – I know, we like things to be fair but as the old expression goes, ‘All is fair in Love and War’. Alter the terrain layout and the deployment zones and you will produce a wider range of results.
All those tanks being track to track does look a tad silly
Not trying to laugh at @oriskany as he takes @warzan place in Flames of War. Remember the Storm Trooper Move!
Well hold on, @ghent99 , I’m not an expert in FoW (as I’m sure this video proves 🙂 ) – but isn’t it “Blitz Move” now? I don’t know if 4th Ed has Stormtrooper move (Blitz move almost everyone can do, just with different odds of success and I think the Germans get two chances per turn instead of one).
In all seriousness, though, I’m definitely a FoW noob. 😀 😀
Me too which is why I loved Warren and Dave. John and yourself did a wonderful job with these and it shows the game off well. And i think you are right about the new rule name.
I have a feeling people will be expecting you to cross the pond for a few more bouts.
I’d be up for that. 😀
a nice tank fest guys great to see a Oriskany V John battle.
Thanks, @zorg . 😀 Spoiler warning, though, I get taken behind the “John Lyons Woodshed” here for a good ole’ fashioned “Tank God Whippin’!” Leaving me by the end of the game to use smoke markers to sponge away my tears – 1:26:15
Ah you still have some lessons yet to learn young Padawan yes, the day you stop learning is the day you may die.
@oriskany Man that was some bad dice rolls but yes your turn 1 could have been better.
Regardless it was a good match to watch even though I was working on my Helms Deep project while watching it.
Yes I got the American comments! 🙂
Thanks guys at least you have shown you can have an interesting game using the expansion boxes of the new plastic range offered by Battlefront. To the both of you, please stop using your tanks as infantry and really learn the capacities of your equipment. Equip you options to take the objective. Both the Pheasants and 88’s were in poor positions and would have been early victims as both sides more than enough capacity to remove either threat around turn three. I know you were highlighting the artillery boxes but for the German side I would have preferred a platoon… Read more »
What can I say, guys? I took my whuppin’ like a man. ‘Nuff said. 😀
@oriskany when I use please and thankyou in a comment I am offering up constructive criticism. That is what I was doing in my last comment that was aimed at both of you. If you even slightly believe that I cross the line I will happily recant my comment as this was not my intention.
Not only did you take you defeat like a man but you also took it in good humour and that scores you extra brownie points.
Many apologies, @jamesevans140 – that last comment of mine was certainly not supposed to be bitter or defensive, although in re-reading it now I can certainly see where it might come across that way. In posts I sometimes rely too heavily on emojis, when you see the ” 😀 ” … that’s me laughing and clowning around. A hundred and one apologies for any confusion.
A few extra just to be sure: 😀 😀 😀
No apologies required @oriskany. I was just making sure that in my enthusiasm I had not accidentally crossed a line as I support what is trying to be done here.
So as you say no harm no foul.
