Diving Into The Rules Of Team Yankee With Breakthrough Assault
October 19, 2015 by brennon
Breakthrough Assault have had a proper good old leap into the rules for Team Yankee, the new version of Flames Of War coming out from Battlefront soon. You can check out all of what they have to say HERE...
They have gone into all the various facets of the game including Command, Movement, Shooting, Artillery, Assault and more. Everything sounds as if it has been streamlined that little bit to make the game easier to play.
There are also a range of missions in the book and there will be nine in total plus a PDF which includes nine too. I would hope that while they have some generic sounding missions there will be some that are more focused on specific hypothetical engagements.
You will have to go and have a dig around after the link above to find out more but the game is certainly sounding like it's going to be very interesting. As we've mentioned before maybe this is going to lead into them doing a range of modern warfare games and maybe even more in the future.
What do you think?

I’ll wait and see what TY is like first. However, you can’t say the minis arn’t amazing!
Sounds good.
Some pretty interesting rules stuff in that article.
All in all, it’s really looking like TY will be a more a more streamlined, less fiddly version of FoW that doesn’t really lose any tactical depth.
That’s really nice and only increases my hype for the game.
I have no background in FoW so it will be interesting to see how the rules play to someone who is approaching it as a totally new game.
Same here, seems there are a good few for the bootcamp that come in “clean”
This reads really well. Especially the changes for aircraft. Aircraft always felt very strange to me in FoW. I always thought you should always have LoS to them (because they are flying in and out of the battlefield), but if you want to shoot at them you have to be far away from terrain (so that people don’t place their AA just somewhere noone else can shoot at them). And now they done it in a very similar fashion. This is very exciting.
I’ll eat my hat (or eat at the Hat) if they don’t include missions based on the engagements from the novel in the PDF. Why else call the game Team Yankee?
The video on YouTube from Essen has the camera holder flip through the book and IIRC the ‘book scenarios’ are ‘Last Battle of Tank 66, The Battle of Hill 214, The Counterattack’

Saw the models in essen. Sadly the tanks are made of resin, which is a big drawback to me.
Hopefully the Plastic Soldier Company will throw their hat into the ring with some nice plastic kits.
Only some of the tanks models are resin.
Abrams, M113, Cobra, T-72, BMP and Hind models (some of the most commonly used ones) will be plastic, although they had the resin prototypes at Essen.
Less-common vehicles (like Shilkas and self-propelled howitzers) will be resin+metal since they’re probably not produced enough to make plastics economical for those.
Thank for the correction ! *relief
the detail on the troops look brilliant.
Really looking forward to the miniatures for this !
Will have to wait and see how good the rules are and whether the approximate power levels of the units bear any resemblance to reality.
Is there a release date for this yet?
