Bring The Italians To North Africa With Avanti For Flames Of War
December 21, 2017 by brennon
Flames of War welcomes the Italians into the war for North Africa with Avanti, a new book which details the armies fighting alongside the Germans during 1942-43.
The Italians might sometimes be seen as the lesser of the armies in Europe during World War II but they had a lot to do during the Desert War campaign. They held the line at El Alamein, and opened the way at Kasserine Pass, before holding up the American offensive at El Guettar.
To get you started with your force of Italians the team have put together a boxed set, Lorenzo's Rams. You get your hands on a bunch of Italian tanks as well as some field guns to help support them as they advance across the desert.
Away from that, you will also be able to expand your force with a plethora of plastic kits which are going to be available throughout February and March next year. This includes the likes of the M14-21 Or Semovente Platoon...
...and my personal favourite, these planes, the CR 42 Falco Assault Section.
They might not look as up-to-date as some of the other planes of the period but I'm sure that they are going to be a handy defence against advancing opponents armour and infantry. Keep them pinned so your forces can roll over them.
Are you tempted by an Italian force for Flames Of War 4th Edition?

It’s nice to see some Italians in FoW.
I´m not a very experienced player, and since an Italian army is probably significantly weaker than any of the greater armies, the tactical challenge would be to big for me. So to avoid frustration I´d rather not go ahead here.
The CR 42 Falco Assault Section (CR 42as) was the A-10 tank killer of its time. Other variants of the CR 42 Falco have been recorded as taking out Spitfires of the time and new tactics had to be created to deal with them. On the Eastern front the CR 42 Falco has 12:1 kill ratio. Later in the war it was out matched but this thing held its own.
Never seen many Italian for games these look great.
