Blast Your Foes Away With Flames Of War Soviet Artillery
August 21, 2015 by brennon
Battlefront have worked on two plastic kits for the Soviets that will have you blasting away your enemies from afar. See what you think of both the ZiS Gun Battery and Reserve Artillery Battalion for taking on the Germans in Flames Of War...
ZiS Gun Battery
We'll start with these big guns for the Soviets. This 76mm gun was a highly mobile piece of kit that was actually named the 'Red God Of War'. Quite a powerful title to give your weaponry.
With high explosive ammo loaded into the gun it was a dangerous weapon against the armour of the German army. It wasn't particularly subtle but it blew away anything it was aimed at.
Reserve Artillery Battalion
Bringing in more firepower the Reserve Artillery Battalion has both 122mm and 152mm ammo allowing it to blast everything to smithereens.
Basically this gives you both the big artillery for blasting apart defences and the smaller artillery pieces for concentrating on armour. Either way this is a good way to fight your battles and reduce the enemies defences to rubble.
What do you think?

looks small i take it they have heaver stuff in the works?
Did the Soviet’s have anything larger than 152mm in the field?
Yes they had 203mm howitzers 8’inch (the big tracked ones) 210/305mm guns which were more for sieges plus a 280mm mortar. @stoney997 @unclejimmy beat me
They had a tracked 203mm gun!
The B4 “Berlin Buster,” @unclejimmy ! Yes! 😀
Lovely stuff – love the crew. I will have a couple of these, but PSC make some awesome artillery too.
p.s., my dad says they had a massive mortar than was bigger, but he couldn’t remember the exact size.
ask him if this was the mortar he was thinking of. @unclejimmy

Yeah! That’s the one. I looked it up about an hour ago. It’s a beauty – wonder what that sounded like when it fired? I have been close to 80mm mortars and that is loud. I have seen Motorhead a few times and that is really loud, but that must be something else!
Lol I would rather be on the receiving end of Motorhead than the mortar.
The British had a 4.2 inch mortar which I think works out at about 105mm and the Russians had a 120mm mortar
…just babies!
Regarding Soviet mortars . . . you guys probably already know this, but be careful as you walk through your research of a few eccentricities of Soviet nomenclature. If you run across anything that says: Guards Mortar or Guards Mortar Regiment . . . they’re actually talking about Katyushas, baby!
Meanwhile, one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE YouTube videos seems appropriate here . . . A tribute to Soviet Artillery.
WARNING – Watching this video will bring tears of high-explosive joy to your eyes and have stomping around the house punching the walls! 😀

Lol queue baldrick’s poem?
Okay, @zorg – I had to look that up and found the YouTube clip. Yeah, I’d say that sums it up! 😀
p.s. an article in the paper today about blackadder they are in talks with the actors about making a new series so fingers crossed they will be back.
