Big Guns & Battle Flights Hit This Week For Flames Of War

Battlefront Miniatures are working away on some new releases for Flames Of War, adding to the German arsenal once again. We're starting off with a boxed up Panther Tank Platoon to act as the backbone of your force.
These were formidable tanks, able to roll through the enemy lines and deal devastating blows to the enemy wherever they were placed in the front lines. Operation Citadel was actually delayed so that they could get these tanks onto the battlefield, giving the Germans the edge.
All big tanks need supporting vehicles though and that's where the likes of the Armoured Flame-thrower Platoon come in.
Imagine this. A fast half-track is storming towards you and then when it arrives it belches forth a horrible stream of hot, sticky flames towards you. This would have been terrifying for anyone who had to face it and would almost instantly cause panic if you didn't shut these vehicles down.
Next up we have the Hummel Artillery Battery landing shots deep into enemy territory and sowing more panic.
This was effective moving artillery support for the Germans, able to shift itself into new positions so that the relentless onslaught could continue without having to pack away or tow large guns into position. It was also popular with their crews and there is evidence of plenty of personal items being stowed away in them by hard-working soldiers who loved their machines.
Lastly, for the ground-based forces, we have the SD KFZ 71 Quad AA Platoon.
These were deployed to keep the Soviets at bay, preventing aircraft from getting close to the armoured aspects of your force or infantry who were wandering through the open, exposed to machine gun fire. A few of these would certainly keep the enemy off your back.
Watching from the skies we also have the HS 129 Battle Flight which is soaring through the skies looking out for the men on the ground.
This was considered to be quite the rugged fighter, able to get stuck in during low-level attack runs. The pilot was actually protected by what many considered a glorified bathtub that stopped him from getting filled full of holes as they strafed low to the ground.
It was the first dedicated ground-attack aircraft that the Germans put into action during 1942 and served in Tunisia as well as the Eastern Front.
What do you make of the new releases?
"The pilot was actually protected by what many considered a glorified bathtub that stopped him from getting filled full of holes as they strafed low to the ground..."
Those are really good.
We need a lot of pink paint….
A good set of reinforcement boxes for the Germans.
As Battlefront has the full plastic Panther kit and the stats aren’t going to be fundamentally different between the variants going into the 44 campaigns later on this year it is a bit silly to reskin the old and frankly awful resin body kits in the new packaging. They end up being far more expensive and fiddly to put together.
