Add Charging Cossacks To Your Flames Of War Soviet Army
February 13, 2023 by brennon
The Soviet forces rushing towards Berlin in Battlefront Miniatures' Flames Of War grow in number with a new set of Direct Only releases this weekend. You can snag yourself some rather funky new 15mm kits for use during your World War II wargames.

You might not think it in the age of smoke-belching tanks and heavy artillery but there is still a place for traditional cavalry. Whilst vehicles would get stuck in rough terrain, these Cossacks are able to power through it with ease and bring their swords to bear against the enemy. You could use these as a fun surprise for when your opponent thinks they're safe!
Keeping with the Cossacks, there is also this Tachanka.
Tachanka // Flames Of War
Making use of pretty much everything they could, the Soviets strapped a machine gun to the back of a horse and cart. Use the increased mobility of something like the Tachanka to provide some covering fire for your army in the depths of the fighting and keep up with your Cossack Cavalry too!
More Soviet Vehicles & Infantry!
As well as the addition of the new Cossack forces (which I think everyone is sold on), there are also some vehicles that can be used to bolster your attack on Berlin.
Ford GPA Jeep // Flames Of War
Sent over by the Americans, there is the addition of the Ford GPA Jeep. These were very handy for crossing the many rivers that cover Eastern Europe. It's probably best not to get bogged down when you're under fire.
You can also get into a bit of tank-hunting with the addition of the SU-57 Assault Gun.

This particular addition to the Soviet arsenal is a mix of the US M3 Halftrack and the M1 57mm gun. So, a fairly effective way of putting holes in German armour.
If you like the idea of saturating the battlefield with rockets then you can't go too far wrong when it comes to dropping a BM-31-12 Katyusha into the mix.

It does what it says on the tin! That rack on the back of the vehicle fires a bevvy of rockets that, whilst not particularly accurate, will certainly send your enemies running for cover. A decent way to cover your advance.
Last but not least, we have this set of infantry with the Red Banner Colour Party.

This set features twenty-three 15mm metal figures with alternative command options. You also get the addition of panzerfaust and pioneer figures which can be used to fill in some of the gaps in your collection.
All of these miniatures are coming up to order as Direct Only sets this weekend so, let us know if you're tempted to snap a few of these up for yourself. I really like the look of the Cossack kits which could take your Soviet army in a different direction from the norm.
