Let’s Play: World War Zero – Round Breakdown
January 11, 2019 by dignity
Cad and Ben from 4Ground reveal the round breakdown of their new 10mm historical mass battle game World War Zero.
Previously known as Guns & Drums: The Seven Years' War, the game has since been renamed to World War Zero, representing the global scale of The Seven Years' War.
In this Round Breakdown Cad and Ben take us through a quick round of the game, explaining how the game will play out, as well as detailing some of the historical background for the setting of the game.
Hands up who else wants to playtest this?

A good let’s play with a good description, the only fault that i can see is that for most of the video, there’s 3 people talking and a wall of tree’s. Given the small scale of the figures, if it could be shown with just a few trees, that way, you can show the big battles that could be fought ( ok, there may not have been that many big battles ) but seeing the figures instead of the close ups i think would have showcased it better. I like 10mm, not too small but not too big so you… Read more »
Interesting game. Are there plans to take this into Nappy era as while I doubt I can fit in another period, I am a complete wh… floosy when it comes to napoleonic rule sets ate certain scales! Also does it scale down – I understand and agree with Big bens comments on why 10, but will it play in 6, or even 2mm (I prefer itybity scales and have a large box of unpainted 2mm that could be re-assigned to 7(9) years war. On another point it’s great to see a massed combat game on OTT, rather than another squirmish/squad… Read more »
As always with games like these its the base footprint that’s important in regards to firing and movement not the figures that’s on them
Oh I know, but there are games where it works a bit better than others.
I could always half sizes to scale down but it does get a bit fiddly.
I would just keep base sizes as they already are
its all ways good to see more game info videos.
Smaller than 10mm is a gaming token?…Heresy Sir. Heresy I say!
Interesting game. The activation system is interesting and looks like it does a good job of simulating the quality of both commanders and formations. One question I do have is about how the stands are based, other similar games, like Warmaster, Johnney Reb, Black Powder usually base infantry facing the long edge of base or use square bases. I wondering if players who already have 10 mm armies from other systems may have rebase them to play this one.
I see no reason why you couldn’t use figures based for other systems and I think it would work perfectly well.
The basing 4ground has done for the infantry represents when in line 3 ranks, which was the most common formation used at the time for formed troops firing when in line.
Generally in these type of games as long as both people use the same size there’s no issue.
Johnny Reb were near enough square bases for it not to matter. Black powder from what I know doesn’t matter as long as both as based the same. I know 6mm players were using 60×30 for each regiment/battalion and 28mm players using multiple square bases per regiment
Not sure where warmaster comes into it unless you play one of the home brewed conversions and the bases for that are 40×20 and I would be surprised if people were basing miniatures along the short edges for that
If I remember, Warmaster based it’s cavalry on the short edge of the 49 x 20 base.
Always thought 30 years war was WW0 tbh, he he. Nice tho,
Great to see a historical game set in the French Indian War and the 4Ground guys are just icing on the cake.
This might be the excuse I need to finally pick up some of Baccus’ brilliant 6mm FIW minis. I’ll be keeping an eye out for a release date. Is there a rough idea for a release date by any chance?
This looks like it could be a good system and it has lots going for it, particularly the mass battle style and 10mm miniatures. If you haven’t tried scales beyond 28mm I would recommend 10mm. Miniatures are just big enough to be individually recognisable yet small enough to allow for a quicker mass feel. I paint a 10mm stand of 8 infantry or 4 cavalry in the time it takes to paint one 28mm figure to an acceptable wargaming standard. That means in the time it takes me to get a battalion of 36x 28mm miniatures done I can get… Read more »
One thing that can look better with larger games is to reduce the size of the terrain so with 10mm figures you would use 6mm buildings and at 6mm you use 2/3mm buildings. As your only worried about the footprint of the built up area It just I think gives a better look to towns etc
I think I would need to see a larger scale game being played to get an idea of the C&C in use before making a decision on it
Is there any chance the lads would make the beta rules available, or am I a chancer.
Nice boys, glad to see history in the making.
love to see this time zone being played.
Looks good, i’m looking into 6mm/10mm for war of the roses gaming – looking at bloody barons system at the moment.
I liked the look of this as fast paced always sounds good to me.
One thing I didn’t really pick up on was the point of the equipment dice – was that a hit even if the manpower dice missed? Just didn’t really see that explained fully in terms of the mechanics of it – might be I missed it.
Yes – Cad’s first dice roll – only gave him one 4+. It looks like they want to be able to split out things that will impact the men – so they can inspired and what impacts equipment – the range.
I am down with this. I hope Pendrake makes some Indian troops then for action on the subcontinent.
I could see myself go all out in picking up forces for the FIW.
Got to have British regulars, Highlanders, light infantry, porvencials and Rangers.
They Frence Marines, (in garrison and frontier kit) militias, Regulars and first nations warbands.
Are the guys offering play testing?
