World War Zero: Guns & Drums – History & Design
January 7, 2019 by johnlyons
Cad and Ben from 4Ground give us the history behind their new film-sim mass battle historical 10mm game World War 0.
Set during The Seven Years' War, which actually lasted nine years, the game will put you in the position of a general making high-level tactical decisions that will sway the course of the war.
The miniatures are being produced in conjunction with Pendraken who have years of experience in 10mm scale miniatures.
Are you excited for the next game from 4Ground?

This looks very promising. I am hesitant to get into large scale battles mainly since buying the figures in 28mm ( too expensive and time consuming to paint ), 25mm ( same as 28mm ) 20mm ( nice comprimise for detail vs size and cost ), 15mm ( DBA and DBMM already have my forces and gaming group so 10mm would let me get a new army, fight a few battles but not have a massive amount of new miniatures to buy and paint ( and find room to store ).
Will watch later when home from work. Nice picture of the Death of General Wolfe
This looks very interesting. I would love to do the battles of the Boyne and Aughrim and the battles associated. these were however in 1690/1691 which is a little earlier than war 0, If the rules for mixed pike and flintlock were included I would be well up for it.
I want to run those at BoW as a big game at some point myself. Need to settle on a ruleset and scale first mind you
Beneath the Lily Banners is probably the best
what’s it like the only reviews I’ve seen blow smoke up the authors arse and say if you want to know more buy the game. While it may be justified I’m not going to buy a ruleset that I have no idea how it plays.
There used to be quite a few let’s playing you tube for them
I’ll have a look some day when I have time. Football’s starting soon so I will be watching that.
Sounds promising – interested to see how this plays.
Ok good watch. Will need to see the let’s play to get a better idea of how the games play as the description doesn’t make me want to play this instead Might and Reason
There does seem to be a lot of special rules involved
I like the idea of a starter box for 10mm, especially if there were lots of lovely terrain in it. I’m not a fan of this period in military history but could see us having a go at a small scale imagi-nation conflict which harkens back to the roots of wargaming campaigns. Plenty to ponder. Looking forward to the Let’s Plays.
With imagi-nations you get to field lots of colourful Ottomans
This sounds promising but I already have quite substantial French and British forces for this period in 18mm (for Maurice and Might and Reason). I’ll keep a lookout for the rules, to see if other scales can be used, and I’m always interested in campaign play.
Very cool I can’t wait for the Let’s Plays. I like the idea of commanders being killed and replaced mid game. The French and Indian War was not a good time to be a high ranking officer and it will be nice to see that “turnover” on the tabletop. @dignity The USA invaded Canada in 1812 as part of the War of 1812 due to things like British pressing of US Citizens. They sent three armies of Regulars and Militia North and it was an utter disaster. Most of the militia wouldn’t cross the border, the three commander hated each… Read more »
Very interested now that I realize it is not another zombie game.
