March 3, 2023 by avernos
It's OTT Weekender time! In this week's Weekender, we're having a look at an amazing range of World War 2 Japanese miniatures for use in your Historical miniature wargames thanks to Studio Historia and their latest Kickstarter.
They have covered all the bases when it comes to building a WW2 Japanese army including HQ and infantry options as well as specialists, vehicles, terrain and a few fascinating vignettes too. A great way to start a new army in the Pacific Theatre of World War II!

Lord-a-mercy I think I need all of Simon’s miniatures.
I feel that – there are so many awesome miniatures in that collection.
Relax… it’s the weekend in the company of Professor Gerry and his tutees! Absorb the wisdom on offer and enjoy…
It is quite the lesson being introduced to all this miniature awesomeness by Gerry
Good show Gentlemen…Oh Gerry my Grandson Thomas was watching it with me and said you are amazing and he really likes the look of that game 🙂
My grandfather fought in the Pacific. He was in New Guinea and then the Philippines. When you study WWII you hear and read a lot about how brutal the eastern front in Europe was. When my grandfather would tell me stories near the end of his life they were horrifying in a way that reminded me of the eastern front. I love the Japanese miniatures. I just want a game that feels semi realistic to what my grandfather described
Yer it’s wild how I think that it gets a little overlooked – at least here in the UK because it wasn’t “our War”. Might just be me and what I learned in school though. Reminds me that I need to go back and watch the Pacific tv series follow-up to Band Of Brothers.
I think it gets overlooked because the battles are numerically smaller than in Europe. My grandfather described the fighting in New Guinea as very cramped and claustrophobic because of the jungle. He compared it to the fighting in Vietnam but on a far more intense level because it was total war. Neither side truly used guerilla tactics but it felt like a mutual guerilla war to him. Lots of small unit ambushes driven by terrain more than firepower difference. Literally don’t know what is around you beyond about 30 meters.
Hiroo Onoda surrender in 1974
Simon is a master sculptor. I ha e some of his work through Mierce and the Hannibal dwarf. Such awesome detail.
There’s a ring of syncronicity for me in the announcement of the Dungeon Saga KS: it has been getting serious playtime in my new gaming group, first time I’ve played it in years. And here they announce this. I’ll be checking it out for sure, but I don’t really want to re-buy everything I’ve already got…
Nice game and nice show
Imaginations for the win too
Ooh Conquest!
