After printing the tower for you guys i treated myself to an Ender 3 printer and printed the same Tower again on the new machine. The Ender 3 is a really good piece of kit for a low start price of £164 i would highly recommend it if any of you decide to bite the bullet and get one for yourselves. Looks like i am going to have to try and reproduce a similar high standard of paint job to yours @johnlyons no pressure there then. i will have to maybe take a break from Titanicus buildings to get some… Read more »
you can buy climbing plants from people like Mininatur and glue them on afterwards, I think that’s what I’d do for any greenery you were looking to add
*edited for accuracy*
Noch do really nice stuff, the main downside is the price, especially if you want to do lots. Also I’m not sure how durable as it is laser cut card. If price isn’t an object, have a look at MiniNatur’s range. Again they do lovely stuff but to get a good effect be prepared to spend.
good man it was actually Mininatur I was thinking of, I don’t think Noch even do the climbing flowers. I shall edit the above. (I could have opened a drawer to check, but why would I do that)
Noch do climbing roses and a few other ones, I think. They definitely do climbing roses as I nearly bought a load for something, then decided I wanted to be able to pay for important thing like rent and food!
oh I found them, yeah that’s not my cup of tea they look like lollypops. I’d definitely stick to the Mininatur line
I was thinking about your climbing roses, and I reckon with a bit of time and effort, florist wire or thread, white glue and flock or coloured sawdust, you’d get a fairly decent vine. The big problem with flowers at this scale is stopping them looking like tiny apples or as Gerry said, lollipops. I’m thinking crepe paper, glue, tweezers and lots of swearing… but doable!
For ivy or greenery in general, I guess a lot depends how close up you want it to look good. Clump foliage would look fine and be very quick and easy to do. You could buy premade ivy for OO/HO scale railways, but you will be seriously out of pocket for that but it would look amazing. Dried herbs are another cheap option, though you tend not to get very good green colours due to the drying process but your hobby room will smell glorious. I’ve never used the little leaf punches that companies like GreenStuff world sell, though they… Read more »
There needs to be a black cat on the roof. Or a chicken!
You know. I really want one of those old-skool wind vanes on the top with the cockril on the top.
Have a look at dolls house stuff for that sort of thing
I have to say that is amazing looking.
Beautiful looking tower and John is doing a fantastic job of bring it to life.
“dobbing” = daub? As in, wattle and daub? (poo and sticks)
Great feedback thanks people’s, I’m going to do a group shot of my towers printed so far johns one is one of the smaller ones looks like I’m going to have to spend a pretty penny or learn new skills for the effect I’d like. Not sure @sundancer as to the ? or ? on the roof will work without a fireman rescuing them lol
I’m thinking crows or magpies would work or a small Wyvern/ dragon just typical that I gave away a very old one ideal for the job a while ago to a newbie.
bird nest would be nice add on too John.
