Ultramarines…we need more love for the Rainbow Warriors!
It would be fun to see an updated take on the Rainbow Warriors 🙂
Rainbow Warriors would seem very apt given the thanks we need to pay to the first line defenders trying to keep us alive during this pandemic.
Great episode.
Isnt a weekend without the Weekender!
Happy weekend all.
9th edition has all of my scattered 40k friends chattering. Everything looks sooo good.
That’s a neat thing to hear – it’s always good when a new edition sparks some folks to get back/into a game.
8th had that effect with our group….but then it bloated out and needed a billion extra books and faqs. (slight exaggeration) and it became a hassle for those in the group who were once a month 40k players to keep up to date with the two guys who played weekly with other groups/clubs. Suddenly becomes less fun when from one game to the next your guys go from master chief on the battlefield to red shirts on an enterprise away team.
5th, 6th, and 7th were the same in my experience.. lots of happy chatter when they were coming, lots of people discussing the new stuff and the changes (with some degree of the inevitable “they changed it so it’s ruined” from the people who wound up outside the new meta)
then the expansions came, the balance of power shifted constantly, and people got tired.
And the new edition will be no different. That is how they can make more money by constant changes and new troops and new codex’s and fixes for fixes etc. They have a formula. A formula that works and a user base that keeps trying the next new thing. That is why it is often referred to as a “lifestyle” game. IMHO, complaining is probably part of the fun of 40K because it is the complaints that seem to dominate the discussions. I have not played in years and sold off the last of what I had about 2yrs ago… Read more »
Happy Weekender, hope someone walks away with some Necron goodness!
I hope the starter box has something other than boring old marines. Necrons I think are a given, but even battle sisters would be better than more bland marines.
Well the starter sets are designed as an entry point for new players and Marines make the most sense for beginners. They’re the easiest to paint and the squads and weaponry they have are all very obvious in what they do. They’re good all-rounders as an army so very easy to play as well.
They just look so bland.
Games Workshops do make their alternative and limited run Starters which don’t feature Space Marines as well which is usually a good port of call. I agree that Space Marines are everyhwere, but they are a good place to start.
Free minis? Cool…. MAKE ‘EM PINK MARINES!
I was just asking my brother if we would split the new starters for ninth edition.
Hope I win one of those startersets . If it is Necrons it is for me but if it is Primaris it will be his.his
Just trying to get as much Imperial Guard done as possible so I can start a Necron army for ninth edition.
There’s nothing wrong with your troops being able to move towards stealthy troops. They’re not completely invisible: call it soldier’s intuition, something out of the corner of the eye, get closer and check it out. Proper Predator stuff.
Yeah I get that – but it still doesn’t quite work heh. I want blips!
It was blips that made Space Hulk for sure.
Enjoying watching on youtube on my phone while updating my Arceworld project on the pc 😀 Commenting here for the chance to win a prize. A marine starter would be lovely as I’m planning on doing the Rogue Trader Battle of the Farm scenario but using the most modern 40k miniatures
North v South was a great game
You can actually get it on steam, It’s called The Bluecoats: North vs South
Thanks for the show guys, good fun!
Like the new necrons and for 40K 9th edition, i guess we’ll have to wait and see… maybe we’ll finally get a more balanced game!
Do you think balance is even possible in a game like 40k? I play casually so it’s never been an issue for me but it’s a regular complaint online. 40k has 22 forces with Codexes. Those are filled with sublists for Chapters, Hive Fleets, Klans, Craft worlds etc. Then you can mix and match to create soup lists. Add in all the extras we get in campaign books, White Dwarf and supplements. That’s an obscene number of possible army lists, most with dozens of options. How many thousands of games would you have to play test to really claim it’s… Read more »
Perfect balance? No, but, they should try a bit better! But i get your point. Anyways, it all depends against who you play also but, i do prefer casual play because of that
I suspect a lot of the ‘balance’ issues is the result of the designers desperately trying to add a gimmick to all of the troops and factions. through special rules. And they do it in such a way that it is hard to see if anything is too powerful (or too weak). Examples are the variations of ‘orbital drop’ and the various invulnerability saves that all have their faction specific names. Then there’s the faction-specific things that weren’t designed to be part of the core game (like ambush tactics employed by the Genecults), which probably required the rewritten cover/concealment rules… Read more »
Just found you guys and I really enjoyed the show. Thanks
Great to hear!
Happy weekender All. I’m pretty sure you can get North and South on your phone. Looking forward to trying Kemet, I’ve never played it but a mate of mine has the old copy and has been looking towards getting the update pack so very much looking forward to having ago once normality resumes to a level I can join my mates around the gaming table.
My friend has the original (or slightly updated) Kemet and we have really enjoyed playing it. I like what they did with Blood & Sand but don’t see us upgrading anytime soon. The original game still works nicely.
That’s great to hear thanks ?
For european customers all the AB figures are available here

Great stuff – thanks for the links.
yay the weekender.
battleisle @warzan
Did @warzan pick out the microphone for @dignity personally ?
I want to like 40K, it has been a long time but the world used to have a wonderful narrative. The early refreshes left a horrible and lasting impression on me. Even though, in my opinion there are many far superior games available it means little how good they are as it is too hard to get a game due to player base. So I will give 40K another look with 9th.
20mm is the best
the female pilot could be one of capt scarlets angles.
a rather acute one 😉
Please tell me it’s the Weekend?
Hang on… if there’s a Weekender that means…
The Judicar miniature looks awesome. Looking forward to 9th addition.
The Judicar is badass. He is making me want to make a Black Templar army haha
Sorry, meant 9th Edition…..
Looking forward to see the impact of Necrons. They have been quiet too long.
