Happy Sunday Cogs
Happy Sunday!
Anyone else having trouble downloading the Podcast or am I just doing it wrong?
It may not have gone up yet mate – we have been quite under pressure getting the episodes out this week.
Still not up 😉
Still looks like the podcast isn’t up.
Happy Sunday all,
Happy Sunday!
I reckon 3D printers will go mainstream when you can select multiple materials at the touch of a button. I need a new mug, I can print ceramic, I need a spanner, I can print it in metal, etc.
Being stuck to one material limits the general usefulness for me. Star Trek replicators here we come!
I really like this card based system, but I am not a fan of initiative combat. I find it artificial and not realistic at all (even though all combat mechanics are just abstractions). I am a firm believer in simultaneous combat. Nonetheless I am extremely interested in this kind of system. My first experience with a card based system was last year with ‘To the Strongest’, a historical massed battle game. I was pleasantly surprised.
I am very very interested how this game will developed and into which genres it could be applied to.
I definitely will have more thoughts on combat (including initiative) over the next while 🙂
I think you’re correct about the unrealistic nature of (one side attacks first and whittles down the other before they respond) – it’s masked in this instance because of the range benefit lances provide but if it were two units with swords, you are correct unless there was some element of surprise aspect to this – its a little unrealistic.
Thinking cap is still firmly on!
You hit the nail on the head there. This is why I loved 2nd 40K, but found 3rd, 4th, and 5th so frustrating (never played the others). Also why I disliked Warhammer Fantasy Battles but love Kings of War. How many times have my Terminators got wiped out by a monster creature with a higher Initiative value without getting a hit in. Answer – many times. Did I think that the Terminators could survive a greater deamon – NO, but I would like them to go down fighting! Get at least one strike in! I just find this kind of… Read more »
It is a tough thing to watch the testing and see the ways your system could be corrupted by a competitive mentality. For example, when you assigned wounds you took away whole models but without that being stated in a competitive environment a person could assign a single wound to each model to better limit the damage to their force. I am with Justin in relation to the order of the card suits and only know the one where spades are the highest. Lots of time yet though to squeeze stuff in and out of the rules as you finesse… Read more »
but in this system it’s full models or nothing, you can’t split wounds you just allocate to one until it’s dead and then move on.
I agree buddy, where’s that rule laid down again? 😉
Assigning a single wound to each model was ruled out wasn’t it? (or maybe that was in an earlier episode). Because to do so would require you to track the wounds on each model. Which means extra cards, chits or tokens on the game mat which are definitely out! It reads as though once you exceed the “kill threshold” for a model/base, it’s removed from play; if you don’t exceed that threshold, there’s no cumulative effect.
Yep, that’s right buddy but coming to the game as a newcomer a player wouldn’t know that unless it is laid down somewhere. Once you scratch the surface there are lots of things. Can I fire into combat, can I charge through one of my units, can I charge around the side of an enemy unit to strike and engage the enemy rear allowing the unit to gain distance and/or putting another enemy unit out of charge range rather than going in the front, would an enemy unit allow me to just do that and these are just a few.… Read more »
Love the weekly puzzle last weeks went around family and friends. None of us solved it correctly and everyone is waiting on me to pass on today’s solution and this weeks brain wringer. Keep them coming. Happy Sunday : )
Happy Sunday! Most important bit: we do whip ourselves and each other with tree (usually birch) branches in Finnish saunas. It’s very pleasant, Justin would love it. Couple of thought on Warren’s rules: I like the unit disposition track, it’s a step above version on how ASOIAF game’s attack stat works. There the number of remaining ranks refine how many times a unit hits, it typically goes down as ranks diminish, but for example Berserkers in Stark list it goes up. For me, it going from left to right would be more intuitive, i.e. fresh unit leftmost, dead/turned the pirates… Read more »
but reducing the amount of stuff that needs explaining (like the suit / card draw mechanics) to something that can be printed on every card may be worth the effort. I like the idea that the rules for melee combat would be in its own event deck. It might repeat a few dozen times, but at the same time you get the opportunity to modify it for various reasons. It could be as simple as ‘time of day’ (with the deck as a ‘timer’ of sorts) or weather effects (a sudden sand storm). It’s also worth noting that restrictions tend… Read more »
Solved last weeks puzzle whilst waiting for the kids to get to sleep. It always feels like an eternity.
Happy Sunday
Warren, I love that rules, can´t wait till you finish them.
Thanks for another great show, I’m glad that you are keeping the 3D element in the weekender, I really like how the cards are coming along – the sample battle was very interesting. looking forward to next weekend.
Forgot to say “Happy Sunday” hope you have a good one.
Happy Sunday people’s nice new intro guy’s.
In space no one can hear the sun scream.
Am I the only one that get intimidated by the quality of the golden button paintwork winner’s?
Happy Sunday fellow CoG members!
Here’s hoping you all get in some hobbytime today! ??
The teachers assistant when I was at school was a leather belt. Lol
I am *what* @avernos …. I’ve tried that part multiple times and I can’t make out what you say 😉
there’s a man who doesn’t do anything for a living
😉
Boris. Trump. to name but two?
The card’s used can you make this a plain travel card game using card’s for the unit’s fighting ? @warzan
Noice XLBS.
Happy Sunday everyone!
The game without a rule book? Just spent 40 mins discussing all the stuff in the rule book.
Yup simple doesn’t come easy 😉
Happy Sunday. There are a few options for sacrificing units First these affect the sacrificing unit and those near them. Chaos : you could classified some as cowards (well not only the chaos units). Mostly causing death or illness (like the black cards from MtG) Coward : If a friendly non ally unit is slayned or sacrificed within a given distance, you draw a card. If the card is … (you choose which cards will affect them), then they either run away backwards or removed from play Murdering Madness : (melee) Draw a card. Remove a base or number of… Read more »
@warzan Really liking your rule set so far. I would definitely be interested if you did a vlog series as you progress through your system. I’d also be interested in playtesting once you get that far. One thing maybe to change on your unit sheets is to make the Disposition tracker move left to right instead of right to left. Since your other stats of Melee and Defense move left to right.
Justin would have a meltdown in the sauna here…. Once you’re in, the towel is for sitting on lol he would be trapped in a silly temperature of a room (normally around 70c – 90c) with a lot of man bits he cannot snip off lol but I highly recommend the sauna then ice bath ( although in winter… I have been known to hit the garden and jump into 2ft of snow !(Although I will admit that the first time I experienced it, as soon as I jumped into the snow my love spuds shot into me so fast… Read more »
