2 foot long armored loin cloths ……………
I now need a new keyboard due to coffee based damage thanks guys 😛
Speaking on how expensive games can be the price of GW products is the sole reason i haven’t gotten into 40k. I refuse to drop 100$ for the codex on top on whatever army i chose to play.
Rule book*
GW will continue until people stop buying and in the UK until GW loses the High Street it will not happen.
If the Robocop remake doesn’t include that ED-209 scene, they’re doing it wrong.
To play it as a skirmish game, I reckon you could adapt Mongoose Publishing’s Judge Dredd rules, maybe converting a Mantic Enforcer as Robocop himself.
And £18 for a single figure is beyond belief. GW pricing has me thinking how many kits I need to finish my WFB army and should I grab them sooner rather than later.
There is so much more you guys do with all the mini-games out in the ‘verse, I haven’t missed the dearth of coverage for all things Games Workshop. You could not do anything on GW ever again and I think there would still be more out there than you could cover.
Another great show.
This trailer sucks. Why do they butcher good old movies? To remake just to remake is pointless.
Or, I’m just a Longbeard (back then everything was better)
Warren, have you seen Dredd? That’s a good remake.
Justin, Razorback has capacity of 6.
Great show guys. I often wonder when GW’s prices will hit that mark where their gamers just up and leave, but year after year we keep on buying the products.
If we had kids I really doubt I’d be able to afford to support their GW hobby.
Cracking episode of Backstage.Really liking the look of the Firefly game, may well have to see if I can persuade a mate or two to have a go at this. As far as the Centurions go,i like them and can see them appearing in my Crimson Fists army at some point. With the prices being what they are ( and only likely to go up ) I will lay out further purchases at a monthly, maybe even bi-monthly basis. It is so hard now to actually start up in 40k,even if you use independent stockists and ebay,i would not want to try and… Read more »
The beauty of GW’s 40k once was, that you could and can find players almost everywere out there. But as you guys said it – and I belief it too – it won’t go so forever. Yes it was always expensive, but if I imagine to buy my first miniatures and codex from my pocketmoney, I won’t go nowhere today. You pay 60,- € for the rulebook and 46,- € for the codex Space Marine here in Germany. Over 100,-€ and not a single miniature to play, I think only a few ritch teenager will start an Space Marine army… Read more »
As I said in the forim thread. £18 for a single monopose plastic mini from GW, with their in house mould making, manufacturing and distribution system. Or £18 for 40 War of the Roses minis from GW sculptors the Perrys, who have to outsource everything bar the initial design thus higher per model costs. GW are taking the pee. I really like the look of Firefly, I’ll be buying it when it turns up at my local shop, I’ve also been quite impressed with the new Mantic army for Kings of War, the angelic type ones that I can’t remember… Read more »
Regarding the prices White Dwarf 294 (June 2004) we have – Archaon’s Siege Attacker Army (1 metal Chaos Lord with 2HW, 1 metal Lmt BSB, 1 metal Hellcannon, 24 Chaos Warriors, 5 metal Chaos Knights, 5 metal Marauder Horsemen, 16 Marauders) – 125 pounds – Middenheim Siege Defenders Army (1 metal White Wolf GM, 1 metal Lmt BSB, 1 Cannon/Mortar dual kit, 20 metal – now very rare – Teutogen Guards, 16 Knights, 19 – no stupid bones and pyjamas – Empire Soldiers, 20 Empire Militia) – 120 pounds White Dwarf 250 (October 2000): – 8 Empire Knights, 19 Empire… Read more »
I am amazed people think positive of the free space marine painting guide, its a thing that is an entirely promotional material geared to only promote the sale of GW paints, its only this month from what I read and so after September 30th people will have to buy something that is essentially a (high tech) promotional leaflet for their paints range, moreover it comes in a really limited availability that is the itunes. Now, if they had released it for free in their website, I would find it normal, its a free promotional material for their products and paints,… Read more »
I think most people can see it’s an advert for Citadel paints, but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that it’s an excellent painting guide – maybe the best I’ve seen.
Good or not, paying for an advert? remember its free just this month.
Ah. Now there’s a nugget of info I’d missed. Mea culpa.
I am really disappointed with then new space marine releases. I think the centurion look god awful and I wouldn’t care if they had the best stats in the world I would not field them in any of my space marine army’s. I think that the new veteran squads are nice not unneccisary as there is nothing wrong with the old ones. Nor do I think we needed a new tactical squad. I really feel like gw couldn’t think of any thing new so just started fixing things that are not broke. New new rhino tank looks ok but the… Read more »
There’s a difference between a remake and a reboot. The former takes an original and replicates it, the latter takes an original ongoing franchise and starts again. Peter Jackson’s King Kong movie was a remake (the second remake in fact), Casino Royale was a reboot. This Robocop movie looks like it would be both as it’s clearly inspired by the original film but you’d assume that the hope is it’ll kickstart a new Robocop franchise. The recent Dredd movie isn’t a remake, I’m not sure I’d consider it a reboot either as Stallone’s Dredd was hardly a franchise. I’m not… Read more »
Only thing 40K related I have is the Space Hulk 3rd Edition board game….and that was only because of it’s limited print run status. The space marines armour is just so 1980’s. I think the Mantic Enforcers are what a space marine ought to like. Regarding Mantic, something changed with their sculpt quality with the Badileans. Ronnie even acknowledges the quality issue and says they will improve. Still, those deformed battle sisters were what drove me away from anything Baliean. Although the paladins were spot on. My only request is Weyland needs to put their big boy pants on and… Read more »
Oh, Warren, surely you don’t think the Adam West Batman is the “original series”… What about the 1943 one ?
true @elromanozo
but did the classic geek thing – i didn’t grow up with it there fore it doesn’t exist! but true non the less 😉
Hay Warren its Black Water , or now they are called Xhe . Black Thorn is a merc unit in BattleTech game .
£18 for one plastic model. I have to go on the GW website to see what it’s like. Lots of skulls I strongly suspect. I have mentioned on the forums about the impact of GW news blackout policy has had on my own gaming but in a nut shell it’s like “out of sight out of mind “. I have two large armies and I’m at a stage in my life where lack of funds is no longer a limiting issue (no more Mortgage ) but I won’t be fleeced. I’m sure if a friend offered me a game now… Read more »
6 bods in a Razorback surely ?
yup
justin trying to catch me out with a brain fart!
Yes I had to go and look it up. for a moment there I thought it was a case of playing it wrong for years and no one picking me up on it 🙂
I’d really like to know someone at the top of GW and privately ask them about their pricing. Then slap them and say “Are you stupid?” you’re pricing yourselves out the market. Make items cheaper and affordable but still quality, then you’ll sell LOADS. They are nuts. £18 for one model is mental. I like 40k but it’s becoming too expensive. I always wanted to collect it back in the 80s when growing up, all the lead figures but it was always too expensive. I was hoping it would change when I was older, it hasn’t, it’s got worse!
Is there an existing set of rules sculptors can license to so they can focus on creating cool mini’s without the additional hassle of having to create rules, fluff and have a ready audience? I love the idea of getting into a game with an open style guide and fluff competitive sculptors would draw on to inspire their own 28mm Tactical Squads. Think of the variety of poses and mohicans you could have in an Apocalypse size army of unique figures? Warploque has shown that the market is hungry and Kickstarter is a global platform that this business model could… Read more »
Have you looked at Warpath from Mantic Games?
I’ve not, BTW, but expect I will do if I enjoy Deadzone when it arrives.
Thank you for this, those Space Rats are now my next project, they look fantastic.

I completely agree about the GW pricing issue. I sort of left the game(s) when the last edition came out. Just kept an eye on it, but haven’t bought anything significant. And considering the grey/metallic miniatures I have lying around I really don’t need any shiny new toys to keep myself occupied. They might be necessary to play by the new rules, but reinventing the whole system just for marketing purposes is something that doesn’t sit right with me anyway. I still enjoy the specialist games occasionally; play Bloodbowl on PC, built a BFG Hive Fleet from a box of… Read more »
“switch to grandpa mode” I remember when I first got into 40k just over 20yrs ago, I bought an Ultramarine Tactical squad, £12 for 10 metal minis. The 40k 2nd edition box was £40, and came with shed loads of minis, 2 tac squads, and I can’t remember how many Orks and gretchin. Now they want £47.50 for 3 minis that are just awful to be honest, and as you guys said – they don’t fit in. To me it just looks like someone watched a few too many manga films and thought “hmmm, big armoured suits…… must have them!”… Read more »
I can remember when five metal minis set you back £2.50, sonny. Now run along and stop playing football outside my front yard.
Yes, your old. Well done for making it 😛
1/6d for my first box of 48 Airfix WWll Germans thats 7.5p in todays money
Now that is an old git. 🙂
Sad to say I remember getting two rhinos in one box for $10 US, and a thud gun , mole mortar , and a spider gun ? in a box for under $10. I miss the days when lead mini’s were sold on this side of the pond ( dammed lawyers ) cheap and you could buy a ton of them.
GW seem to be a company at war with the community. I sometimes wonder how long it will be before you have to sign something every time you buy something legally binding you not to talk about it on the internet.
@warzan You are totally right about GW pricing. This has been in the pipes for a long time. You’ve heard us Aussies whinging about it, but this latest price adjustment was to bring the rest of the world into line with AU prices. The space marine commander is $30, which is about 18 pounds. The sad thing is, nobody in Australia (well, very few people) buy from GW. Most people learn (even kids) that they can buy from ebay from the UK/US. With that door closing, it will be interesting to see what happens. I’ll pick up some second hand… Read more »
