Hero Forge 2.0
So, after last week's chatter about the new Hero Forge 2.0 Kickstarter we thought we should dive in and talk about our questions concerning the campaign and what we think of it now we've seen the previews of what we're getting.
What we're seeing isn't quite what we thought but it certainly is an indicator of what lies ahead for 3D printing and we take a bit of a deep dive into the technological side of it before sharing our thoughts on what's next.

the weekend begins….have to start my star wars project soon.
Looking forward to what you do. I was just going to paint Obi-Wan but can’t find him as a single figure anywhere really!
are you looking for old obi wan or young obi wan?
Was having a peek for the Obi-Wan from the Clone Wars set but couldn’t find one at a reasonable price pre-Christmas.
Happy Weekend!!!
Lloyd’s Hind Heist – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPz7O8JgUhs
There is a Hind at https://www.alamy.com/russian-hind-helicopter-imperial-war-museum-duxford-image5139335.html
I think tje Helo is the Westland Lynx
They are Lynx yeah. Found out after the site loaded! I do love the Hind and seeing it in action
Happy weekend, it seems that the big companies like HP have already developed 3d printing technology for the industrial customers so I think things will move very fast when they go into printers for the consumer.
Very interesting indeed. I don’t imagine many people will have them in their homes anytime soon (in bulk) but I am happy to see how much gets done in the next year or two.
It’s the Weekend!
… and time to find out if my new glasses will allow me to see better close up when painting minis etc. I hope so at that price!
Appears to be a lack of GW news this week, hope it wasn’t anything I said!
lol Funny you should mention it – When filming I thought to myself – I bet @coxjul has #put the shits up our Ben’ looking at this running order lol 😉
Not much to talk about on their front and more fun topics to talk about
Hmm, I’m “in the states” and I really love painting, maybe not up to ‘eavy metal standards but I think I’d be fine with prints but I don’t think I care about them being colored. What is this term “marmite” that Ben keeps using?
Its a sandwich spread, people will really love it or really hate it: https://www.marmite.co.uk/products.html
The use of the phrase itself will become like “marmite”
Yay – a good weekend for me is working on my models while the weekender is playing.
Having seen my Dad so proud of his Betamax video player when I was a kid, you pretty much summed up all my fears about investing in 3d printing now. But as it is undoubtedly going to be the future of wargaming, how long can I leave it before I’ve got left behind?
I think you’ve got quite a bit of time left before you feel utterly left behind.
The old Beasts of War were beating the drum that 3D printers were going to be as common as home computer printers quite a while ago, and it has yet to eventuate.
They are only likely to get that common once they are sold alongside computer printers, in my opinion….. If we have high street electronic goods shops as going concerns at that point.
It’s the Weekender.
The ‘Spectre Starter Set’ is a winner if you’ve been looking to get into Modern Warfare game play.
I agree with @brennon that the ‘Explorer’s Guide To Wildemount’ is an exciting new addition to D&D. I pre-ordered it when it first popped up on Amazon.
Aristeia! continues to give us cool minis and interesting fighters to add to our teams for the dome. I’m glad that this game continues to grow.
I will certainly picking it up so that I can delve deeper into the lore behind Mercer’s world. I’m finally getting to play more D&D this coming week as well so I am right back in the zone.
When 3D printers come down a lot it’s something I’d for sure consider it. But I think it’s far off still at the mo.
Watching with interest always though..
“It’s gone all American soap opera” – I think @avernos just summed up why I lost interest in 40k as a game and franchise… it’s so convoluted and mixed up that you’re totally lost if you not 110% invested in it.
I walked past a Warhammer store today and I wasn’t even tempted to peek in the window. I think I’ve become “that guy” who has decided they are past GW at the moment.
Don’t get me wrong – I think what they’ve done for 40K and Age Of Sigmar is pretty amazing, it just doesn’t really work for me in its current format.
I am VERY interested in the new roleplaying game for AoS by Cubicle 7 though as this will allow you to tell more personal stories. I think ‘mass battle’ GW has perhaps had its day for me though.
Call me a heretic, but I’ve kind of ignored the lore. Although I must admit what I really don’t like is how not all factions get equal amounts of attention. It’s like they have great ideas for some and go total overkill with them by adding a ton of new content (any Chaos faction or the spacemarines/sigmarites). And others get ignored completely once the new codex/faction book is launched (Gloomspite gitz and Orks) I really wonder why they don’t trim the fat and ensure every supported faction has the same level of support (ie : all troops, HQ and elites… Read more »
I think they like to follow the trend of what people are buying. It is pretty staggering when you see how much the Stormcast Eternals have when compared to the Fyreslayers or Sylvaneth for example.
However, I think it has something to do with the Stormcast being so cookie cutter. They HAVE to offer more options there to give people the idea that they are fielding different themed armies. The theme for the likes of the above is pretty much baked in.
I think it’s not about Stormcast needing more options. It simply is easier to give them ‘more’ options (two handed weapons, giant crossbows). Reduce armour and you get scouts (like the spacemarines did). Add more armour and you get terminator style troops. Fyreslayers otoh are a one trick pony. They have nothing that can thematically link to their core troops without getting weird or out of sync. If they had been part of a generic dwarven force then they’d be back to playing the role of berserkers/trollslayers. Part of the problem of giving people what they’re buying is that they… Read more »
Brought 2 of the Kangaroos, great looking model and great cause. Is this the start of building an Astra Militarum army? Maybe? The conversation on the full color 3d was very interesting. The 3D Kickstarter is too out there for me, but I agree with the comment that costs will come down, with technology advancement so what a year or two from now will reveal is very exciting. I was reflecting that, even as little as 2 years ago, this conversation would have been a wish? Hope? You be crazy man? Thanks for the show! Catch you all tomorrow.
Technology is coming along leaps and bounds right now across the spectrum so I bet by the end of this year we’ll have something new to get excited about.
Absolutely, I just can’t wait to see what it is! The thought I have is whether it will be at the retail level, e.g. models produced by demand, to availability to home grow one’s models. Will we get the quality we are now seeing from the major developers? Some out there my prefer the ability to home produce models and forsake quality. The view of this question may be the future driver of corporate decision making in the next few years. Anxious to see what the new year will bring.
You say Imperial Guard … I say Orks as it has tons of rivets and plate armour that make it look Orky.
No doubt. I’m working on three Lotta Wagons for the Orks. I have one photo on the projects page under LOTTA WAGON.
listening from my sick bed this evening, dental emergancies are no fun
Happy weekend all! Great viewing/ listening while getting some hobby in! Regarding the 40k releases, honestly I seem to be one of the very few who are not moved by the whole Sisters Of Battle thing! Ive never been that interested in them to be honest, could never put my finger on why. Yes a few of the newer models look really good, but nothing I’d ever buy! Dark Angels however… Awesome, love them, as have always been mainly a Wolf player, but a half son of the Lion also! (may either or both return soon please…) Master Lazarus in… Read more »
To me it’s the ridiculously ornate/over-the-top design of their vehicles that kills it.
That floating pullpit and their vehicle for example … WTF ?
Also too much anti-grav, which kind of robs the ultra high tech factions like Eldar of their uniqueness.
I mean I know it’s 40k and all, but it doesn’t look practical on the average battlefield.
All the enemy needs to do is have lots of low bridges and they’d be stuck.
I don’t know if it’s still canon but it used to be that Imperial Guardsmen were massacred after contact with daemons; Space Marines are mind-wiped. That probably dates from the 80s so I’ve no idea if that’s been retconned since.
I think Space Marines just have to deal with it now heh
happy weekend folks love the show.
The app and the price put me off Dark Tower… Way overpriced IMO
Aye, as I said in the show, there are games which offer something similar for a cut down price tag. It just depends on how much you’re willing to pay. I REALLY like Dark Tower and think they’ve done some great things with the app/tower integration but with Journeys In Middle-earth and Legends Of Andor etc being available, it’s a hard sell for a lowly commoner with a strict budget for hobby. In saying that, I don’t think it has priced itself ‘out’ of the market. I still think it has a good place, especially without the models which you… Read more »
In the spirit of this multiverse thing new name assignment might be in the cards…
“We have the sage Benvoglio on the mystic screen, Gerry Mandarin in the chair (his name historically is an ancient Chinese secret), Justin The Nick of Time also in the chair (a timely thief) with the hallowed Brother Lloyd and his beard that will be built to Biblical proportions and myself, Warren B. Hardcase private dick”
A good thing to see new playing worlds but it might well be an opportunity to revisit Planescape.
It is worth looking at the likes of D&D Beyond and DM’s Guild as they might have some options for you.
Another Great Weekender and relaxing inside while its -20C outside with 35 to 50 MPH winds. The color 3D printed miniatures are the way of the future and companies will be jumping in to get a piece of the market. Fantasy and Historical miniatures look better with square bases……….
They rank up nicely that’s for sure – still a fan of rounds for skirmish games though.
It seems to me that maybe we are not the target audience for Hero Forge 2.0. We are miniature games, many of us have the tools and the desire to paint figures for our hobbies in order to get good results. There already exists a service for us and it’s what they already provide. Rather I feel like this is going after all the people in the recent explosion of the role play space (you have to remember, these guys have been featured on things like Critical Role) that don’t have the gear/experience/desire/access to paint up their own figures from… Read more »
