With the Dropfleet Commander Kickstarter in its final days we take a further look into the game with the first of three videos this week. First up a look at the mechanics of the Shaltari fleet.

Nice video – and chance of more images of the painted ships to go with it. All of them look sweet.
Shaltari are going to be a real pain in the buttocks to cope with but then someone may come up with a Cunning Plan for splashing the Emerald early on or trash all the void gates as early as possible.
As a Dropfleet Commander pledger, UCM/Scourge Commander, reeeeeally fearing the Shaltari Cheese I mean tactics 😛
It sound fairly similar to their ground rules and boy oh boy they are some nasty rules to play against…
Pledged yesterday for Captain Level… can´t wait for this game to happen… I`ll focus on UCM first, hope to get those Mothership down with some nasty burn through lasers… ^^

First you make me want to sign up and support.
And now I’m already pledging as commander, because how in *beeps* name could I ever choose?
Can we blame Beasts of War for making this hobby expensive ? 😉
I was a little disappointed when I first saw the PHR, but seeing them painted up in all their glory they’ve really grown on me. Why does my money keep bouncing off the screen?? 😉
The painted ships look fantastic. I have to fight the urge to want every single fleet!
Cannot wait for next summer, when I get my hands on these.
with a commodore pledge level you can get roughly 1 battlecruiser 4cruisers 8 frigates (12 if 500k£are reached) of each faction!
Like you Warren, i have gone for the UCM……………
Now every UCM (plus other races) player`s will be thinking about tactics to use against the Shaltari, as there gates give them one hell of an advantage. One i know i`d hate to have to deal with, but then that`s half the fun in gaming.
The four ships that you had on the table where unbelievable, and if i had the funds i`d be getting one of each fleet being released. Can`t wait till tomorrow for the next installment………….
I’m curious about something; if you damaged a void gate almost to the point of destruction could you then use that to isolate Shaltari forces I.e. let the forces through the damaged gate then wipe out the gate?
crippling the gates would appear to be a viable tactic.
At the very least you’ll be limiting their options and movement.
However given that they can hide in low orbit you’d either need ships that can go there or a lot of luck.
UCM at the very least can (and probably should) try to damage any gates they encounter if they’re dropping of troops, because they’d be operating in the same layer.
Then again … Shaltari will probably want to make sure them pesky critters are crippled before delivering their cargo.
So many options … so many possible tactics.

I really enjoy the videos and the tactics and insight they provide about the game.
Can’t wait to get the the ships (the paint job is fantastic) and the rule books. It looks like it will be a great game of tactics and strategy.
Just imagine combining dropfleet commander and Star Wars in a galactic war in the future.

Ok I’m in for Commandant. Give me your spaceships! I still want to see how the PHR rules are going to work out. I gather they’re better at doing broadsides so they must have some mechanism for getting in close. Do they just need to keep their weapons quiet till they’re almost side by side?
The more I see of this the angrier I get that kckstarter seems to be unable to solve its issues and though I’m not able to back… 🙁
I’m going to enjoy wrecking those gates in the name of the UCM and uncontested dominance!
