Let’s Play: Warhammer 40,000 Speed Freeks
October 20, 2018 by dignity
Games Workshop celebrate Orktober with Speed Freeks - available for pre-order now!
With Speed Freeks you'll be able to unleash the Speedwaaagh! on your tabletop as clans of orks race and battle their way across the desert wastes of Vigilus.
In this game the guys are playing with the red-painted Evil Sunz versus the powerful Bad Moons.
Which clan would you take in the Speedwaaagh!?

Hmmm. Sounds fun. I’m tempted. Damn your eyes, sir!
I was robbed
it was sabotage! by filthy humies … 😉
Your wearing an OTT shirt Gerry. Does this mean anything or is it just that your washing machine has broken again
Or OTT has listened to me and finally took him on board 😉
ok its official @sundancer when you signed up for backstage just to get a bit more of the big man we felt a responsibility to make your 3.79 per month count (and stop you just mp3 ripping all our stuff 😉 lol) so we pleaded with @avernos to join our team and when he found out about the 3.79 he said it was an offer he just couldn’t refuse, and somthing about some deep love of a pundancer or something…. anyway long story short, we feel very lucky to have @@avernos coming onboard with us he brings so much experience… Read more »
So I should expect more 2mm coverage on OTT from next week then? He’ll be good at shelves as well given his last job
I’ll find the egyptians, those elephants and 4 horse chariots are fantastic in 2mm. Also I can’t wait to see them trying to zoom in a close camera to view them
Me ripping…. no, Sir, ain’t doing that…. you already supply them as mp3. Leech all the way 😉 Welcome @avernos … or sorry? I’m torn XD
a bit of both I think ^^
Have fun with it everyone… it’s a 120 Euros and that beyond my financials at the moment. (Plus I don’t really see that much value in it. Gorka Morka was much more fun)
yes, because in Gorka you could get out and punch people. This is very much an Orky version of X-wing.
And well done on your new position
cheers
local webshop has it at 102 … (they tend to have a 10%-ish discount on Warhammer prices)
Definitely pricey, but also a potential start of an Ork army.
hmmm …
The original Carmageddon music: Zero Signal by Fear Factory
Game looks not bad, new buggies are really nice.
Nearly choked on my coffee at the end of the vid! LOL.
blame Coco for that one, it could be worse. When I heard what he had done I immediately thought of Tyler Durden in Fight Club XD
End of the vid had me in stitches. Looks fun. I dont play orks, but Im still very tempted.
Oh… the Nob jokes. It had to happen. 🙂
I am interested, but none of the Ork players in my area are looking at getting it, so I am not sure…
This looks good shame that the boards limit movement a third one may help that to get more kills ?
Fantastic showing! between this and the weekender I think I’m sold on the game!
Good job with the moral victory @avernos 😀
The buggies look really great. Can I assume they come in the red and yellow plastic?
I believe they are but @johnlyons sprayed and highlighted them to make them look less dull and show off a bit of detail
The dice allocation is interesting, but as with anything GW… there is a lot of dice rolling and a lot of not having any effect (stalling, missing etc)… and I personally would have more hitting and just more hit points for the vehicles. I like the look of the game and could be tempted to buy a ‘start collecting’ box to create fast moving small ork army and see how that fares against the Adeptus Mechanicus, or Necrons from Forgebane (or possibly the Marines of Death Marines a friend has from Dark Imperium), but only if I can get hold… Read more »
I thought the chance of stalling was a bit too much. If the vehicles are too reliable then the race is over too quick. Definitely agree that there is a bit too much dice rolling, which makes it a bit too random. It probably is one of the better ‘models + game’ boxes GW has made though. Maybe it is more of a test to see if a true revival of vehicle combat game is possible. Kind of like how shadow war was an early test bed for Killteam … They’ve got the stats for the vehicles in 40k :… Read more »
Not really enough stats there to use them in 40k as it’s just the weapons. Need a full profile. Maybe they will make them available as pdf, but I suspect it will be a codex purchase required.
Maybe we’ll get more detail once they publish a bit more info of the codex.
But yeah … it kind of sucks that they don’t have stat cards on their website.
Odd too. As the Kill Team and Rogue Trader boxes have stats for 40K in mini codex provided.
I can’t be only person tempted to start a small ork army with Speed Freeks as part of it.
you’re not alone. I’m building an Orky kill team and then using the speed freaks as an extension for my first ORkish force.
That should be a nice counter to my spacemarine + eldar forces I’ve got planned.
(because we all know that the proper amount of armies is always one more than you’ve got ;-))
Tell me about it… with Warmachine I started with Cygnar, added a few Mercenaries for variety… liked the look of Circle so added them… decided to complete the Mercenaries… now I have three armies (two painted with mercs in progress) and the guy I played Warmachine against seldom has the same day off as me… so we not played in over a year…
And then there are the two Wrath of Kings starters then need assembling… plus three Carnevale armies from the kickstarter…
I’ve got Carnevale incoming ‘soon’ too … and as usual that will be multiple teams too. I probably could start a gaming club on my own with the amount of starter sets/armies + systems I’ve got LOL
With the amount of skirmish and board games I own, I could also start a club… pity I don’t know enough people to play them all.
Once a week I get to run (mostly), or play (occasionally) an RPG, but as you get older the time for gaming seems to diminish as people have other responsibilities… I miss the old days when I could game for 10+ hours…
Now I spend more time assembling and painting than gaming, but I do enjoy that part of the hobby too… although I seldom do a paint job that I’m proud of…
it’s only one in six and that’s if you give the vehicle the bare minimum 1 dice.
Rammstein – Benzin
Great video, could you perhaps do another Let’s Play of Speedfreaks once the other Buggys are out?
Nice models!
Looks like a lot of fun 🙂
I don’t seem to get it. So many dice rolls. So much administration. In a racing game, your movement is set by dice rolls? It seems uncessarily windy, with so much to remember. Could not the game be card based, drawing, say 3 cards in a hand and playing up to 1 on your opponent and 2 on your own models, with each model moving a fixed distance (using the templates) and the cards being ‘boost’ to move twice, ‘stall’ (miss a turn moving), ‘jump jets’ (move distance over obstacle) or a ‘giant pot hole’ (miss a turn)? Discarding the… Read more »
you have to remember it’s not a straight up racing game, your dice pool is limited so how you chose to split them is up to you. In one turn you could go hell for leather for the horizon and in the next turn push as many as possible into shooting.
It’s a remarkably easy game to pick up, the only thing that needs to be tracked are those two silly long sticks and if you have turbo big red buttons on your bikes.
I think a good song would be, Exodus – The Toxic Waltz.
Looks great, liked the end bit too. Was it me or did you miss the melee step in turn one or is it shooting or melee? Also Congrats @Avernos
cheers, and yes we did. When my nob and buggy where within range of his buggy and may have prevented him from retreating like (insert army here) from Russia 😉
I see the grots fixed your wall Ben.
It’s GW, so the miniatures are looking good and will be of a high quality.
I just cannot keep up with theyr publishing pace at the moment moneywise. AoS, Kill Team, Adeptus Titanicus… Too much money was spend in a short ammount of time.
Although the minis are great I will pass this one and play Gaslands instead.
Oh the game was gettin’ good then Justin scarpered!
see, I’m not alone in noticing that
Like the models. Not quite sure about the game. All the snazzy card and symbol dice look a bit cumbersome.
you could play it with a d6, 1 miss, 2-3 defense, 4-5 hit, 6 lighting bolt. but then you have more book keeping and stats to look at. Like a lot of board games and introductory games at the moment simple dice symbols are being used to reduce the barrier to the game, X-Wing, Walking Dead: All out war come to mind as examples. The unusual movement templates do irritate me though, not knowing how to get where I want to go easily, but I expect it gives the ramshackle nature of orks engineering
That looked pretty good. Gah I don’t want another game.
remember orkz, he who leaves the battlefield first….loses…
Thanks for the heads up on the contest winner from the past contests. I think that this is the first time I heard of that.
Jolly good show chaps!
Last night i stayed in, turned the lights down low and watched two men play madly with there Nobs…
