Wargames Foundry Unboxing: Norman Starter Warband & Reinforcements
May 22, 2019 by dignity
Allez, mes amis if you've been envious of Lloyd's Saga fun then why not jump into the game with the Norman Starter Warband & Reinforcements from Wargames Foundry.
The starter set contains twenty-nine metal models which will give you enough for a four-point warband. Along with the reinforcement set, you can bump that up to three points with the addition of some armour-piercing crossbowmen.
Do you know how to reload your crossbow?

If Justin is interested in looting after battles, he should google Waterloo teeth!
Heck look what they did with the bodies. The British came back a few years later, dug them all up and used the bones for fertilizer.
Saga SAGA SaGa!!! 🙂 The War Games Foundry minis often need a bit of knife work to get the sprue off, but i have seen more modern minis with mold lines in far worse positions. I think if you just go cavelry and levy bows with the Normans faction it can be a struggle. I think it is good to have some foot warriors to give you a centre and a bit of reliable basic protection for your levy. History – Scabard under the armour for ease of drawing one handed? If your shield is in hand, though kite shields… Read more »
Good idea on the scabbard. I have always thought it was just to stop them flopping around everywhere since the maille would weight it down a bit but it could be both.
Maybe it was a status thing and if you didn’t have a fancy scabbard you tucked it away so the other knights wouldn’t point and laugh at you? 🙂
You’re right @avernos the whole “Crossbows were banned by the Church” thing is a myth. The same document talks about all missile weapons not just crossbows. @dignity yes and no on the armour question. With the rise of Feudalism in this era Knights were outfitted by their Feudal Lord so a man didn’t have to be independently wealthy to be an early knight but they became wealthy after having the job for a while. Some people would like to show off and there was a very good reason to show off. It could save your life. A knight could be… Read more »
Man this makes me wanna collect saga. Food and rent are optional expenses right?
You can live for a while without food, but your tiny fighting men do need a roof over their heads!
I feel a saga warband coming on….
The Foundry range of miniatures is very nice. I have several from across their ranges, they’re always nice to paint. It’s well worth popping along to them if you’re close to Nottingham. I use to regularly combine a trip to Warhammer World with a trip to Foundry.
I do love a Foundry mini. This packaging them for Saga is a bit … *modern* though.
nice figures.
nice to see white metal still
Note to all fellow cogs, get theses before LLoyd and Gerry buy them all,” Now wheres my Credit Card gone”.
Those brass spears are really nice! And, when scaled against the models, don’t look like the spearmen are carrying telephone poles.
Great minis, unfortunately, I’ve collected most all of them already over the years.
Nice to see a box like this. If I ever get in to saga (And I am curious) something like this would be very useful
The Foundry stuff is always nice.
Never got around to getting any.
Maybe if I pick up Saga I will get some.
