VLOG: What’s Burrowing Into The Studio?
January 30, 2020 by dignity
Justin has put on his carpentry hat to investigate a small problem in one of our studios.
The cage is on lockdown as a mysterious mound has worked its way into the heart of OntableTop's operations. As the problem is fixed we've covered everything with dust sheets to make sure the precious miniatures aren't ruined. It unfortunately means we won't have Pointless Views of the Weekenders this week. But we'll be back as soon as its fixed with more of your favourite shows.
In the meantime, don't forget to check out this weeks Gerry Can where the bearded wonder talks all about decals. There's also an unboxing of Footsore Miniature's new Hydra from their Mortal Gods: Mythic Kickstarter campaign.
Is it really a drain pipe or is there a mole in the CoG community?
I await the community coming up with horror movie ideas for what’s beneath the studio floor
Something Cthulhu.
I think Justin is just looking for an excuse to bury his *beep*-o-saurus army 😉
Horror ideas? Really? With the combined knowledge of fine quality bad cheese in film you know what’s been going on. This is the precursor to “Night of the Lepus”. As if you haven’t been making prayers to the furry Powers That Be for a real life Burrows and Badgers.
Hey if you need some extra space I can store a few of the cage models in my hobby room! 😛 For a time of course.
Haven’t watched yet but from what you describe it sounds to me like an airhole like the Great Limavady Stoat would make
It is after all their mating season
A most amusing and scarily credible diagnosis!
Maybe your Skaven have decided to expand their empire? It could be an outbreak of dwarves, I suppose…
@dragonbreath has actually raised a vicarious point worth considering. It might be a good idea to cover up those pipes in case rats are able to access the pipes!
Steel wool stuffed in the pipes should block the vermin, unless they really are Skaven. In which case, body armor and Warhammers not made of plastic might be useful.
“You guys know how to pole vault?”
That Tammy Lynn Baxter do much pole vaulting?
Maybe it was a stone age people from the Netherlands teaching the locals how to pole vault over rivers
I know what this is! @avernos went a bit overboard when playing some “Escape Stalag 13” scenario! 😉 CONFESS!
I have a great idea for that using the walking dead rules and eBob minis
Closer to “home”: RATKIN, SKAVEN or other creatures of that ilk. Otherwise, I’m not sure of what “underground” monsters exist in Irish mythology.
Pretty much all of them
My gut feeling with limited information is: water stored in pipes causing steel I beam to corrode. Oxidisation resulting in expansion and cracking. There could be another factor here as well, but contributing rather than the main driver?
I think that the water should be drained from pipes, which then are to be filled in is a course of remedial action that should be looked at?
Any other build environment guys with any comments? @brucelea might have a useful diagnosis or suggestion in a non liability undertaking manner?
I was going to put something crude about ‘Justin finally showing his pipe off on the internet, but I decided to put something vaguely sensible!
Well, let’s start with him showing us his hole, and build up to his pipe.
I’d say the uncapped drainage along with poor ground works prep for the new build would certainly have done this as the I beam is very close to the surface. Best solution is excavation, cut back cap off, new DPM and then fill with concrete. That’s the boring bit, my mind however went straight to either it’s a hide left over from the troubles. In which case @johnlyons get digging as there could be something real nice for you and Lewis. Heck there could even be an SMG and you could make your own stormtrooper blaster! The other thing it… Read more »
Are you sure it was a rusting I-beam and not badgers trying to bring you guys some mushrooms? ?
Looks like the start of a Skaven infestation, are there chewed bits of warp stone in the hole?
This is a perfect setup for DnD, giant rat holes leading to an old crumbling under-city. Warren’s the barbarian, Jerry the Paladin, Llyod the ranger and Justin the bait…
is that the overflow from Johns dungeon coming back to bite you? @warzan
Dang it! @thebelon beat me to the bit about chewed up pieces of warpstone scattered about the hole.
Still, best make sure you don’t have a huge methane buildup under the building pushing up that slab…could be a lot more annoying than skaven!
Not that much corrosion on that column, unless someone spent a lot of time grinding it off. From the dirt, I would say no.
I would go with the building is settling around the column
@wiseoldbird, the site is based on a hill, with a lot of water in the environment generally, being meters awar from the river Bann and generally high rainfall. There have been serious movement issues in some ong the buildings closeby as well.
Well, things happen and we hope all goes well.
Hmmmm I think it’s more a case of Justin getting caught trying to bury a certain “army” he got for Xmas from Warren under the floor (to be dug up by Archaeologists hundreds of years later as a rather “warped” treasure trove and/or burial artefacts for a Northern Irish male circa 2020). Alas it was rumbled before Justin was able to pour the concrete back into the foundations
One Word: Skaven
