Nice looking tanks, I like this camo pattern.
I didn’t put it on full screen.
On the farthest spot I had one.
On the second spot I had two and the one that Lance pointed out.
The forth I didn’t see (the third tank from the right).
I then re-watched it on full screen and I could see them a bit better but I still couldn’t see the forth one.
Oh please, please, please more of these vlogs, 0 at the furthest position ,1 mid and 3 closest. Michael Wittmann reportedly had an uncanny ability to spot (or suspect) hidden allied positions. I was wondering if there are any allied tank commanders who also had a similar reputation.
Well the ‘benefit’ of colorblindness is that I “see” camo different, I could see 2 first round 3 second and all 4 as we got close. The breakup of the main gun with the camo pattern really make that last one hard to find. Love what you did with the tanks and would now love to see how this plays out compared to other styles and national schemes.
Great work John, I had 1 the first time, 2 the second and 3 the third, never spotted the fourth one though.
That was an awesome demonstration! I was one ahead of Lance after spotting the first tank. But I couldn’t spot the fourth. Eventually I was looking for the bright circle shapes of the gun/cannon (I don’t know the difference) barrels. But you’re probably way to late if you have those staring at you.
A great little demo of how well the camouflage works at realistic distances. We tend to forget how condensed a tabletop battle can be.
I would make sure you don’t look at the image in the post till you’ve tried this 🙂
If I were a tank spotter, I’d be fired. From a turret. I failed this test.
I only spotted 3.
I spotted three after at the second stage, the barrel gave it away. Although i already spotted the barrel parts at the largest distance I just didn’t think to much about them. This is really impressive. Although the question I would have is whether you get better at spotting them, due to focussing more on details that give them away. I mean I found the barrels even in the first stage, just wasn’t realizing what they were, but they were still memorable. Now that I think about it it was the fact that you could see perfect black circles surrounded… Read more »
This is a really interesting question. From various witness statements and documentaries it seems more like tank commanders were more aware of the terrain and tended to think “that’s where I’d put one” It was a sense that Michael Whitmann was claimed to have. A reporter that was sent to document him in Russia attested to him being able to sense where a tank or anti-tank gun would be placed. And according to the reported he was generally right. It could also be argued that tank commanders training and experience led them to understand how their enemy would deploy into… Read more »
It’s great when you can see the camo patterns work on the tabletop. It also means you have to have good terrain as well to achieve the effect but worth it when your opponent forgets about one of your units.
a great video guys tank spotting way better than where’s wally
One at first. Two on the second move in. Never spotted the other two until the reveal.
I would of stuck in a ‘Waldo’ figure for fun lol
I still can’t see the primer red Tiger. He’s the best hider.
I saw none far away none walking towards it, and one up close.
With lances camera and zoom though I managed to get up to 3 on the walk in and still had difficulty spotting the last, and I knew where it was.
Camouflage helping disrupt shapes and hide men since 1800
I spotted 1 which would have been enough to call in at the least regimental artillery and ground attack aircraft to decimate the area.
It’s just a pity most WW2 rules out there that I have seen people play recently don’t have rules for hidden units
Not watching on full screen though and I spotted 1 on the 200m range, 3 on the 100m range and still 3 on close range. However I think that if I was looking at it in real life I might have spotted them a bit easier. Things are always a lot more detailed in real than on camera will ever be. The guns really give them away and putting a cover over the end of the barrel, will hide them way better.
agree
Ive only spotted the first one, I watcehed it in full screen. Very nice paint job on the tanks, and I always love a little show and tell 🙂
I counted at least 16. But then had I been fighting in WW2 I would have taken out every bush and shrub ‘just in case’. Better to be safe than sorry.
Spotted the first one at long range.
Then two more at the half way point.
Did not spot the fourth tank, but may have been because there was no zoom on the up close look.
I like the dots on the tanks. Did that on my SS IN for BA. May have to try that pattern on my Tigers for FOW that I have yet to paint.
What a great video idea! It’s amazing how good the camouflage works!
Thank you for this great series. I’m not into historical or WWII games, but this series is ben a blast to watch.
As always, great job guys 😀
great excersize, i spot 1 on 200 m maybe other . then 3 in total on 100m and i was suprised with 4th because I was sure it was only 3,
3
Do I win a cash prize 😉
I saw one at first, but I thought I had a glimpse of a second one.
Second spot confirmed there were two tanks.
At the 3rd I started to see a few more and I was tempted to say 5 (LOL)
It definitely helps if you know what you’re looking for, so I can imagine that tankers would be more aware of the kind of shapes and key details that they’d need to be looking for.
OTOH … every second you need is another one the enemy gets to target you, so even with the best spotter there’d be an advantage.
