VLOG: Dropfleet Commander Week – Lloyd’s Polystyrene Moons
December 6, 2016 by lloyd
While John's been painting up Warren's fleets, we take a moment to join Lloyd at the next table.
With Moons being in some of the scenarios in Dropfleet Commander it's only appropriate to grab some 30cm diameter polystyrene balls, cut them in half, poke some holes into them and apply some heat.
Join us next time to find out how Lloyd paints his Moons.

Video says private 🙁 . Is it a problem with my player ?
Try now @kantor72
Cheers Lance 🙂 . It’s all good now.
@lloyd the bigger crators look better
Yay 😀 . Lloyd is a terrain master. Working with all that polystyrene would give me nightmares. I am way too clumsy / heavy-handed to end up with anything that you could use in DFC, or any other space fleet game.
Never moon a werewolf 😛
Howwwwwwww?
Valles Mareneris on Mars
Mariner Valley for those who don’t speak Latin 🙂
I never expected to hear Lloyd come out with this gem:
‘You don’t want a ring in the middle of your moon.’
That may just be my terrible mind at work folks but he said it….
I think the geological term is graben (German for trench) or fossa (Latin for trench).
The moons look superb. I did mine simply by spraying them with primer which melts the material (and is absolutely not suited for anything else when working with styrofoam).
I’ve painted mine grey, washed with black and dry brushed with a bone colour..
Looking forward to seeing how you painted them 😎
No blue moon ?
Killjoy Alert!!!
Do you remember when Warren was talking about the terrain for DFC being ‘definitively defined’ but the game 😉
Well, I don’t wanna spoil Lloyds fun, as he looks like he’s enjoying himself too much, but how will I fly my ships in Atmosphere underneath those in game 😮
Again, flat moons work best I fear 🙁
See you Friday

@dignity had told us you could only fly around moons that they were impassable – is that not the case? 🙁
Page 53 in the rule book says that @dignity was correct
Actually re read it you can fly under them but only in atmosphere so pretty much only frigates. However as they are hollow moons i dont see this as an issue.. Lol
A wave of relief just washed through the Studio lol
thanks @commodorerob!
Lol, just trying to imagine the panic that was going through BOW. Warrant was going to recreate kingdom Death and rip off someone’s boll*cks.
Not the case. Come on Warren, you what Justin is like for getting rules wrong 😉 lol
We’ll just houserule it for the sake of awesomeness.
Look how proud Lloyd is of his orbs.
That’s no moon! Oh, wait, yes it is a moon, relax everyone, it’s just a moon.
*Phew
Bootcamp hasn’t started yet and we’re hacking the game already, that’s the spirit!!! 😎
Doesn’t matter if not conform with rules, Dave will have to come up with something then.
The moons stay I say, they look too good not to be on the tables.
@dignity
No worries, @lloyd had a fab time making them. Better take the heat gun off him though…!
That’s one cheeky moon …
Kind of like the Southpark game : fractured, but whole
😉
Lloyds got some nice orbs…..
First glance at that and I thought Lloyd had done a Kaitlin Jenner.
A very very well endowed Kaitlin Jenner.
just put the moon on a black card template so you can remove the moon and have the template already in place.
red would look cool or storms on a smooth one, or maybe a black shadow
but the death star would be hands down my choice, cos.
Warren button moon was as epic as your rendition.
bring back the good old days when kids shows were being made by hippies
Now how to adapt this for some of the other moons like Europa, Io, Callisto or Ganymede for some variety. Guess it’ll be down to creative painting but would be great for some variety.
So @warzan won’t be recreating the Red Dwarf moment where Dave Lister played pool with moons?
Valles marineris is the mars valley @Lloyd and some moon pictures to inspire you.

cool thanks for that 🙂
This is awesome. Trying to find some that are this size locally so I can do the same. Always loved lunar stuff

Moons look great. Who cares if you can’t fly under them.
Do one really knackered moon all blown to bits. That’d be sweet.
Or we get some bluetack (pinktack if you like) and flying under ain’t an issue …
On the slow road to the bootcamp. Pulling out of Cleveland now!
can I recommend using wall Spackle to fill in in that marking on the top of the dome?
(You can also use it to create mountain ranges or smooth out mistakes.)
The moons look great. I would make the one with the fractures an ice moon. Make the other moons different colors as well. Red, brown or yellow would look cool. Maybe even a moon with water and forests on it.
