VLOG: Crusader Wargaming Table Build – Part One
January 29, 2020 by crew
Warren has a new project he wants to share with you all. Something that has brought him out of his hobby funk!
After finding it difficult to get into his hobby over the Christmas break Warren has been striving to get his motivation back. And it seems to have come back with a vengeance! Warren and Justin take you through a new project which is a participation game centred on the Siege of Acre.
Today they're going through the scope and ambition of the table and how a lot of the miniatures are coming together. Most of the terrain pieces have come from the excellent Printable Scenery.
If you were running a participation game, what historical battle would you run it in?

Is the painting recipe for the Castle not in the vlogs for that boot camp? I half remember watching it… but then again it was a while ago
Audio on this video is just digital mess for me can’t hear a thing all other videos are fine.
It was fine for me
The video has a very bad “right loud, left nearly silent” setting… but only when listening on boxes. Headphones are fine… that’s weird.
it’s strange I haven’t ‘quite’ been able to replicate it but we will re render tomorrow and see of we can work out what the issue is 🙂
Listening on a laptop and it’s fine on medium volume – very strange.
Weird for me to on my phone and then did Bluetooth speakers and it was all good from there.
Same here.
What hole in studio where and who showed what?! NO WEEKENDER?!
*panic*
Cant the guys set up a camera somewhere and just have a chat?
it gives us a few days to buildup some topics for future shows. And let’s editing push ahead on other stuff. The hassle of dismantling stuff and then running all the edits etc would take a good bit longer. So the chance to get some extra time to work on content plans etc is very helpful 🙂
Thought it might be a good chance to launch Radio Otter
All we need is Radio Otter *clap clap*
Nothing like a passion project to get you out of a hobby funk.
It really does give 3D printing another big tick as well. The relative ease of getting what you need and in the exact quantity you want it as well. Without printing it out, I wonder what the time spent hunting it down and money spent buying the same terrain would’ve cost.
I think this is going to be fab and the table will be brilliant.
Right, so we get to admire the small Acre-age and simultaneously have a gander at @warzan with his huge tracts of land. I feel a little giddy at the whole scale of these things.
I have a idea what the problem maybe. I think it’s when the audio get converted to mono by my phone, when it’s stereo on headphones etc it’s fine. I think it maybe phase cancellation if the the left and right signal are out of phaze for some reason when combined they will cancel each other out.
Yup, that’s exactly the problem! We ran a bunch of tests this morning to figure out how and where the phase cancellation was introduced. the problem is now fixed and the replacement video has now been uploaded 🙂
Hey folks, I know you’re no doubt on top of all this but just to add to the audio discussion, there seems to be a sync issue from 7:26 – 10:07. If you guys have had to re-import the audio from the Rode Wireless GO there could have been a caching issue where it’s confusing which transcoded audio it’s using in Premiere which can lead to similar issues. Just in case somebody tries to tell you your mic is wonky, it’s fine (just takes a little bit of tweaking to get used to it) but it seems like more of… Read more »
Take 3 on the re-upload. Danke!
This will be so excellent, I won’t even mention the round base apostasy. Would like to see Rorke’s Drift or the Battle of Teutoburger Wald, the fall of Constantinople…
If a cult member of foreign persuasion can make a suggestion, a running VLOG of the Siege of Acre table build, the storming of walls, and the subsequent attempt by Salah ad-Din to lift the siege would be more than sufficient replacement for the lost podcast due to the unfortunate floor incident. Otherwise, enjoy the time off. You guys deserve it.
If you do hang around the room in question, you might want to post a canary in the room, just in case, and maybe don’t use someone’s beloved pet…just a thought
@warzan Wow sad that we have another thing in common. This winter has been a complete bust for my hobby. Missed the last 3 game nights at my FLGS for WWIII TY and have not gotten anything painted in awhile. The funk seems to be mental as much as a time thing, but I need to get something going so this funk will pass.
I feel you mate – big time 🙁
Know the feeling too! Old habits get replaced by new habits due to funk, need inspiration to get the old habits back. Large projects and long campaigns work for those with time, Justins, Gerrys, and Johns. Others, like me need small, easy-to-hit, achievable goals to regain that feelgood mindset. Whatever works my friend!
looking good, brill start
Why are you painting the walls of Acre grey (if I’:ve understood you correctly)? We ain’t in some granite laden Europe, we’re in sandstone country, the new wall plastic colour with some weathering g would be closer than the grey you did on a previous project. Dug this out for reference…

They are a warmer colour in real life and I’m happy with them 🙂
Just seen start of Vlog #2 and I was mistaken, looking good!
