We also have a little explaining to do in regards to our recent Kingdom Death: Monster video. Some of you were keen-eyed to notice that Justin and the guys had to fudge (retcon) a couple of dice rolls during the gameplay.
Yep, we've been caught! Sometimes in order to film a campaign of linked games such as this we have to allow for a little change up in rules to make sure a series doesn't crash and burn (in Kingdom Death you could lose an entire settlement) and then that's game over man, it doesn't happen often however if we feel that something is going to break the game and make it less interesting overall, sometimes we'll jump in and make some decisions.
So yeah, thanks to the eagle-eyed viewers who caught that for us!
What do you think of the new 4Ground Terrain?
C’mon guys… I was literally in the middle of watching that Let’s Play when you pulled it down! I even messaged @lancorz about it! I knew why it was pulled down too. Just get it back up, coz I enjoy having it running while I’m painting ?
The new 4Ground terrain looks awesome too.
it’s just being ‘fixed’ (excuse the pun) right now will be up very shortly 🙂
Another thing with Kingdom Death and the type of game it is, vs say a PvP game, is that we are not alone in wanting to “showcase” the setting of Kingdom Death. Take for example Critical Role. A good deal of that show is scripted, reshot etc in order to make it enjoyable to watch. Is it a true play experience. Maybe not quite. Likewise KDM is somewhat the same. And also for people who can’t afford the game, this is their window into the game. Now something we can think of doing in future (because I do have the… Read more »
If you don’t want a game where some random event can just kill the entire game, don’t play Kingdom Death: Monster. Still loving the let’s plays, even though I’m a couple of lantern years behind with watching.
Except then we as viewers wouldn’t have a chance to see KDM in action or (possibly even worse) only get to see the repetitive boring stuff.
While the latter is a definite part of the game these “Let’s plays” are part entertainment too.
These things are not a tournament or a tutorial where doing things by the book is expected.
And let’s be honest … it’s how a lot of people at home will play too.
True and I have no problem with them doing it, but I just wanted to point out that Kingdom Death: Monster is not the best game for avoiding having to reset everything to a previous point. I personally don’t play like that, but I can understand it for a media standpoint and thus it doesn’t bother me.
That looks great plus the new set can go into a town set to give more colours to a town set to give more variety to buildings.
My vote is that @dignity gets a pass. As much as we all like to talk about how we love “cinematic moments” in gaming – we can’t blame the team when they try to make them happen for us on the table top.
I don’t know about you mate but I’m more heartbroken about the archers on horseback incident 😉
Snigger!!!
I think I’ve still only watched up to Lantern Year 10 – haven’t seen any of the more recent ‘mini-series’, so I haven’t yet seen the episode in question. I have no problem with you fudging stuff to make an interesting show, but rather than hiding it, if you’re having to do it too often, why not just tell us that you’re fudging something? As @limburger says, lots of people do this at home. Even if you did a kind of ‘outakes’ segment at the end of the show so that it doesn’t look interrupted to us, I think it… Read more »
Outtakes could work and would be a good way not the break the immersion of the story. It happens so rarely like practically never in a standard lets play. It had to occur a couple of times in the last set of lantern years because of trying to protect a story progression (for this and the next set) So it’s not a usual thin to happen hence it wasn’t caught in the edit. But i really like the idea of the outtakes at the end (I’d need to dramatically clean up my language and screaming in that case lol) Also… Read more »
That all sounds good to me. The reason I haven’t watched the recent episodes yet is I’ve been busy and I’d like to be able to watch them all fairly closely to each other. If you got wiped out, would I want to watch you do it all again from scratch? I’m not sure. I would certainly support you doing some other campaigns but starting ‘half way through’. I think there are some official rules coming from KD which are designed to get you past the early levels, although I don’t know how long it’ll be before they’re ready, and… Read more »
Agreed it’s about having characters in the settlement equipped and experienced enough to tackle the bosses, other wise you are going to be stuck with us playing level 2 lions and antelope continuously to have the resource (and redundancy) to get to a boss. So you start to get limited in options. 1) try to protect some key characters to get them to their hero moment (the fight not necessarily winning) 2) have some other means of progressing the story without it necessarily becoming a series of unrelated games (as the charm is in building the settlement) Out takes might… Read more »
Changing die roles for dramatic effect plus showing rules effects is ok with , we have often replayed situations at end of games ,one to learn that rule and two to see what happens.
Great looking buildings . Next up I hope 4Ground tackle a battle damaged 1945 Berlin
@warzan – can you share your foam suppliers details? My local upholstry supplier’s prices are a bit steep! The 4Ground stuff is awesome, but I’m getting big into your foam methods 😀
Wow! I knew we were doing Tobruk , yeahee guys, back to the book.
I dont have the slightest issue with his heppening. Sometime you need to do it this eah so we get some good videos. Especially when your trying to show off the game.
As for the new terrain it’s amazing! I’m trying to avoid getting any more while I finish my current projects. You may have just changed things fir me ? at least they’re not out just yet!
Ya getting a hard time there Justin! I got your back! Your comment on Horse Archers was not a statement of fact, more of a question from my interpretation. Guess it goes back to them giving you a hard time means they really like you! Cheers!!!
Love the new terrain for Tobruk, hope they do it in 15mm!
Probably going to build some horse archers at some point for Rus Princes in Saga. I beat I discover there shite lol
@warzan, please slap that minion @dignity, and he’s getting no more anzac bikkies for 2 months for getting caught!! Bad Minion!!
the new 4ground Tobruk looks great. I would try to dust with army painter space ship exterior, or a very light ash grey style paint.
The only thing missing from the Tobruk setting, is the platoon of Aussies & Kiwis playing cricket !!
