tables are really starting to come together can’t wait to get playing on them.
The 3D printing is really interesting, will you just be sanding or filling and finishing as well to remove imperfections?
I expect a fleet of them the next time we see the Imperial Fists on camera 🙂
Green screen at the ready…
Looks great!
would be good to see a primed one that hadn’t had all the sanding done so that we can see the level of imperfection that needs to be fixed through this process but otherwise, looks really promising. 🙂
That boat is brilliant. I saw it and instantly thought of Carnevale and other similar games where it would be perfect.
that’s gondala crazy, right ?
Excellent 🙂
I’ve *nearly* bought myself a 3D printer several times over the last few years and it seems they’re pretty much at the point where clueless folk (like me) could use one.
Glad to finally see you getting into 3D printing!
You should go read my articles again now… see if they make any sense. 🙂
The software screen said Prusa i3 — I did not realize you could get them all black. When I purchased mine the only options was the Black/orange.
It’s a Prusa clone
in CURA , the anycubic 3d mega works on same software setting as prussia
What model/make is the printer? There’s so many out there it’s hard to know what to choose if I decide to take the plunge!
Hi Warren,
For infill consumption Cura shows a indication on the lower right of the slice screen. So you can see the effect of the various infill etc.. Furthermore, in my experience using Simply3D, 20% infill is more than sufficient.
Cheers
Welcome to the world of 3D printing 🙂 Just keep at it until you find the settings that work for your machine. Keep in mind too that the quality of the filament used will be another variable and may impact on your results if you switch between brands/providers of PLA. Best of luck!
I expect great things from Warren and his boats.
cant wait to see more of 3d Warren adventures,
Awesome, next up: Space Wolves in Longboats!
Thats awesome guys. I’ve not tried any 3d printing before as it scares me a little. Youve once again inspired me, now to sell a kidney or two to get a decent printer!!
@warzan with your love of Vikings the row boat will make a great scenario piece defending a funeral ceremony and needing an archer to hit and light the boat with a flaming arrow.
Great blog gents and I now already looking at 3 printers. Really excited about the Bootcamp, never done something like this before so no idea what to expect but just hope for some fun and games.
I’m just exploring 3d printing too. My third week of efforts. I’m focusing on terrain for my Blood and Plunder; some scatter terrain of boxes, barrels, cart, etc. I am now working on a bastion from files sold by Laser Dream Works. I fully support adding in rafts to the print, not only help keep the print in place, but I find it also help provide a lip to aid in the removal from the bed. I also got a tip from the internet on using glue sticks for keeping small items from slipping which seems to work. Please keep… Read more »
I so need me a 3d printer!!
the printers looking great can see the BOW studio looking like the diorama’s in the GW HQ with john/warzan making imperial building to cover a 28mm planet looking like the lord inquisitor set.?
The row boat isn’t martial enough for the space marines to take into the field in my expert opinion. Now if its purely a recreational then thats a different matter – Brother Claudius is perfectly entitled to spend a lovely lazy day off on the lake and perhaps indulge in a bit of fishing (though you may want to use a sitty downy marine from the land speeder instead of a standy uppy marine).
What I’d really like to see though is surf boards….marines on surf boards…now that would be cool.
@warzan PLZ print mod to protect from getting the top wire cable getting lose from printhead ( they can burn ) : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2186997 You do need to invent the wheel again, join the facebook group “anycubic owners group” and recieve great help/tips/tricks/mods there. The 3d printer is with your CURA settings underperforming, with some changes, it make your prints work 95% of time. placing the boat upsize down would improve print on outside, so much less cleaning. try BRIMM 8mm instead of RAFT set printlayer to 0.2 mm , still enough detail, but shorter printtime Infill, most of time is… Read more »
For your 3D printer, you really need to tune your settings for it and definitely calibrate the extruder. Also looks like you are just a very small bit too high. Just from watching the video I can tell you are under-extruding a lot. If you have questions or need more information, message me and I can help you out.
Good grief, both fleets at Trafalgar printed with that thing? It would look epic, though. very surprised to see how it can print “overhangs” like the prow and the benches. The little space marine looks so cute in his little bath tub row boat! 😀
Wolsung terrain is looking great so far, that’s gotta be a sh*tload of work. Kudos to @johnlyons on that.
So at 7 hours for a rowboat the 2 fleets should be ready by 2020………
I’d be interested in seeing the painting of the Micro Arts apartment blocks, crosswalks and the fruit stands.
‘Very Intresting ‘ , though for those of a certain age, that should be in a a German Accent, whilst hiding behind a rubber plant (Rowan and Martin Laugh in). Alaways wondered what the print programs looked like.
So what’s next ?
A ‘strandbeest’ ?
